We were expecting the worse after reading reviews. Our room was lovely, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was more than adequate - the bath is quite high so less mobile people may struggle to get in to use the shower, shower gel provided and heated towel rail. The room was very clean and the maid came everyday and tidied up. We found the bar staff very welcoming, both were very polite and chatty, certainly not as described by others (agree they may have changed staff). We used the pool which was a little cool but still pleasant, worth taking flip flops to go down to the pool with, robes are provided in the rooms. Breakfast and tea could be a little chaotic with so many people wanting to eat at the same time but if you are sensible and wait for the rush to go down the food was varied and there was plenty of it. If it was laid out a bit better I think many of the queues could have been avoided. A better toaster would also help at breakfast. I also used the spa, had a lovely post ski massage, the massage was great but the body mask afterwards was a little chilly but both very relaxing. The ski depot also offered excellent service for just 2 lev per day (less than a £) we stored our skis and as the hotel is so close to the slope it was very convenient - slippers or pumps again useful as you, understandably, can't wear your ski boots in the hotel but store them in your room. All in all very good value for money.

Have visited and stayed many times in the resort of borovets but this was our first time at the iglika palace. The staff are friendly and courteous although there is a language barrier, but all smile warmly. The hotel is dated by western standards but the norm compared with other resort hotels. Very warm rooms ( window wide open) every night! The window sill was great for chilling the wine 🤭. We were half board ( breakfast and dinner) plenty of it, the same as any Eastern European really. Salads, pork, chicken, kofte, fish, pasta, and yes chips!. Dinner drinks are not included, however breakfast teas, coffee, juices are. There is a mandatory ski/board storage charge of 10 lev for the week. ( cheap as chips)this is located in the basement of the hotel and can be found either internally via the stairs or a lift or direct from the outside of the building. The ski depot also offer wax and full service for skis and boards again between 20/30 lev for full service. Showers were hot and only ran out briefly when on high demand but was back on within half hour. There is a pool downstairs which can be used between 4pm and 8pm. No no hairdryers !!! In the rooms so bring your own also no kettles either, however there is a complimentary hour of tea/coffee and cake everyday between 4pm and 5pm I took full advantage as I’m a proper tea boy!!. The hotel is sited right behind the Rila hotel and if your a boarder you can walk from the iglika into the rear entrance of the Rila and out to the slopes at the front of the Rila. If you ski it’s a 5 min walk around the Rila hotel and up the Main Street. The iglika bar is friendly with enough comfortable seats , cocktails are good value as well as the local beers. I was informed by the Balkan rep that this hotel is going to undergo a full refurbishment starting at the end of this season 2020. A few photos from the slopes 👍😝.

We have just returned from our first trip to Borovets and we were very pleasantly surprised by the Iglika Palace. Going by previous reviews we expected the worse.
The location is great, so close to the slopes and only about 5/10min walk down to the Gondola. Loads of good bars and restaurants very close by (we cut through the Rilla) We didn't use the ski storage facility as our package meant we had to use the Samakov. We left our keys at reception every morning however and found the staff lovely.
Food
- ok so i will agree with everyone else on here the food is not hot! and i wouldnt even say warm however it is tasty and we found something to eat every nigh (saying that we used the microwave to heat it up) This would be my only gripe about the place and given that everyone says the same maybe they should sort it out. the food coming out of the kitchen wasnt even hot. its very busy and i think mabye lay it out different and this wont happen. The toaster could do with replacing i think its seen its day... BUT as i say we found tasty filling food every day so not all bad. We had a few late night drinks in the bar and found them really friendly and the bar well stocked.
Rooms
- our room was perfect as a base, beds were comfy, it was kept clean every day and was warm (underfloor heating we think as no heated towel rail or radiator) i would say its difficult to get somewhere to dry the clothes in the evening so maybe a towel rail would be handy... Its not the most up to date decor and furniture but as i said at the start your getting what you paid for and we really only wanted somewhere clean and warm to sleep and wash.
General
- I think you need a better mat on the way in that poor cleaner was constantly mopping the lobby and there wad a lot of water in the mats at the entrance. we will def be back and will bring our children with us next year.

Stayed over the Xmas period with Balken Holidays.
Not too impressed with the food. Fair enough to say there was sufficient to eat but it always seemed the supposedly "hot choice" always seemed to be nearly cold.
Although the reception, bar and dining room had modern decor the rooms were in need of updating, in our room we had a wardrobe that leaned to the right meaning when you opened the left door it would always close when you were trying to put clothes inside, the wash basin had no trap fitted so when someone flushed the loo in other rooms a smell came up from the plughole.
Our first night it seemed that there was no heating and our room was rather cold however this did change after and the room was reasonably warm.
Balken advertised the hotel as both 3 and 4 star accomodation but I could not define the difference roomwise between my daughters family booking a 3 star and my wife and I 4 star.
Staff in the dining room were quite pleasant but one young female could be educated in having a smile for patrons as I never saw here smile all the time she was working nor did she acknowledge us when we said thankyou to her when servicing our table.
On the other side of the spectrum the bar staff were excellent with an impromtue rendition of happy birthday by the barmaid once she found out it was my 60th birthday.
On the plus side the pool was excellent with massage and sauna being available.

This is one of the worst hotel I have ever been, rooms are old a d it looks like no one invested in cleaning ever (don't look under the bed).
We got back to the room after a long day and see that it's not been touched, we asked at the front desk and we got a answer "we are cleaning every 3-4 days "
The hotel said that there is wifi and it's not working.
14inches 5 channels tv
Food has no taste and very dry
And ......
Never again

I didn't expect much, because its a pretty cheap hotel, but it was very bed.
Noise:
We got a room that was behind the hotel bar storage room. It was close to the bar itself and the whole place was very noisy. We were together with our 5 years old son who went to sleep early and had some trouble with it because of the noise. When I asked to turn the music down and be more careful with the doors to the storage the hotel staff was really unfriendly and only when I yelled at them they began to be more careful.
Cold:
Additionally to the noise the room was very cold because there were cracks between the wall and the window frame. A cold wind was in the room all the time!!!
When I asked to move to a different room, they offered me a tiny room completely unsuitable for the family of three. So we just put some blankets on the window to reduce the cold.
housekeeping:
We stayed there for 5 nights and I don't think that they ever vacuumed the floors in our room
food:
The same breakfast every day. The dinner was really not tasty.

We enjoyed our stay at the Iglika Palace, the hotel has recently been refurbished and looks very nice. The room we had was a junior deluxe suite and was very modern. The shower was really nice. The towels were replaced daily and the room was also hoovered daily. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Downsides, the food, although there was a nice variety of food, the quality of food left a little to be desired. The scrambled eggs in the morning were very sloppy and the fried eggs were almost half raw! The coffee machine wasn't working properly on one morning either and there was only a choice of two concentrate juices not real fruit juice. The dinners were varieties of Bulgarian food but we actually much preferred to eat out in one of the various restaurants in the resort. So we feel that the money that we paid for half board would have been better spent elsewhere. The swimming pool also didn't open until 12pm which is when everyone is already out skiing! But all in all, we enjoyed our stay!

This was our 2nd visit to the Iglika Palace Borovets. We will be back again in March, we love this hotel, the staff are great, polite and helpful, nothing is too much to ask for. We asked for quite a lot and everything was sorted with a smile from clean sheets when my son managed to pour milk over his, late at night, to additional furniture. It’s strange because I have never encountered cold food, well apart from the salads, which are to die for, but having a young son we were through the door bang on restaurant opening times, maybe this made a difference.
As I say we will be back in March and are much looking forward to it.

My husband and I visited with our toddler over Christmas. Our room had a double bed and a pull out sofa bed. Very spacious with a bathroom and an additional toilet and sink. The main bathroom had a bath with an overhead shower but no curtain. This made showering a bit tricky as you had to aim the shower head towards the wall or risk soaking the bathroom. The room was cleaned daily and toilet roll topped up. We had a half board package which was fine. Not the best food I’ve eaten but there was always something. It’s cheap enough to eat out so if the food isn’t to your liking it’s not that big a deal. Would stay again!

We were staying in the Iglika Hotel whilst skiing for a week at the start of February.
We had previously visited borovets and stayed in the Lion Hotel which was great, but was slightly out of the town so wanted somewhere more central.
The Iglika has just being fully refurbished to a great modern standard.
We were slightly apprehensive about the food after reading reviews but we were pleasantly surprised the food was always tasty a good variety and hot, the waiting staff were also friendly which was very different to what the previous reviews say. One thing to note is that the restaurant turn off the drinks machine where you are able to get water and juice at breakfast so you have to buy bottled water with dinner which is a bit odd and disappointing considering it’s half board.
Our room was 207 which was great lovely room with balcony, the shower was amazing with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel which was great quality. There is also a hair dryer in the room.
We tried out the spa one evening which has great facilities and nice to use after a day on the slopes. When we visited there were quite a lot of children in the spa despite the signs saying no under 16’s. It didn’t overly bother us however if you are looking a tranquil spa it may not be what you are expecting.
Location is great. Snow masters ski school is right next door and just a very short walk to the slopes, bars and Restaurants.
We had a great stay and will be returning to Borovets next next year and staying in the Iglika again.
Tip 1 - you can walk in the back door of the Rila hotel, take the lift or stairs to level 0 and you’re at the slopes.
Tip 2 - on check out day if you’re planning on using the luggage room don’t leave it until 12. We put ours in at 11 and it was great but returned at 12 to take something out of our bag and the luggage room was full so other guests could not leave their luggage in the luggage room.

Dear Andy and Sarah, Thank you for your lovely review. We try our best to ensure a great stay for our clients and are happy you enjoyed your holiday. We are sorry you were inconvenienced by the lack of free drinks at dinner, however the half-board package by definition only includes drinks for breakfast. Guests are often not aware of this. We will be glad to welcome you again next year! Kind Regards

Yes there’s a hairdryer and a kettle. However if you want tea bags or coffee it’s chargeable so take your own or buy some in the little shop down the road with the Turkish delight in the window (which you should also try).
