We stayed 5 nights and thought very highly of this hotel and its staff.

First, though, let me tell you about the 2 or 3 minor things we liked less, and then I will heap on all the praise!

Like so many hotels in Myanmar, there is no shower rod/shower curtain in the bathroom. Yes, I get it, it’s a wet bath, but it’s just really messy and looks cheap to my eyes. Shower curtains are not unheard of in Myanmar, our similarly priced hotel in Mandalay had one. Ok, that’s picky point number one. They did provide us with an extra bath mat, so at least kudos for that.

As you probably know most coffee in hotels in Myanmar is not the greatest. I know that and accept it. But why make it even worse by offering only powdered creamer instead of milk? Picky point number 2 done.

Last picky point is just a personal preference, I found the bed too hard for my back. But this negative was turned into a positive by the staff who went out of their way to help. After the first night I mentioned to them that I had slept on top of the comforter to make the bed feel softer. Unfortunately they did not have any extra comforters that day to give me, but the put an extra blanket folded in two for me to lie on, and that helped. I was already quite happy but then the next day without me saying anything they advised me that they now had an extra comforter and would put it on my bed so I would have one to sleep on and one to sleep under! This is the kind of thoughtful service this hotel offers.

I loved the location of the hotel, only about 10 minutes to walk to restaurant row, but away from all the noise. Our room had a balcony, a minifridge, a flatscreen with CNN and at least one English movie channel, but to be honest we didn’t really use the TV much in 5 days.

Although the room did not have what I would call a safe, it had an interesting feature which might be called a strongbox. Essentially the night table had a cabinet with a lockable door and key. It could easily accommodate a laptop if you travel with one. We just kept our passports and some emergency US cash we had with us in there, saved us carrying it around every day.

The AC worked great, despite the 34 celsius temperature outside. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom, but plenty of outlets (that didn’t need adapters) in the room itself. The hotel has a backup generator and it did kick in at least a couple of times in the 5 days we were there. The wifi was generally stable and quick enough to surf newsites and download emails; occasionally it seemed to slow to a crawl or crash, but then it was good again within a few minutes.

The hotel booked several taxis for us, rates were reasonable and the driver we used the most, Htay Win, was very pleasant, spoke enough English to get by, was a very safe driver and had a very clean car, with seatbelts (not always the case in Myanmar) and he was not afraid to use the AC to cool us down. We ended up using him for a couple of half-days to visit the temples, as E-bikes were not our thing. If a taxi is something you need in Bagan, he’s one of the ones used by Motel Zein and I highly recommend him.

Lastly, I just want to emphasize that all the staff here are so friendly, helpful and efficient. Cleaners, porters, breakfast staff, front desk staff - all great, all there to make sure your stay is great!

Spent two nights at Motel Zein, was really nice, they have the basics that you need for your adventurous journey in Bagan, cool and clean room after spent 12 hours under the scorching sun od Bagan, you can rent ebike in here and can order OK bus to continue your journey to Mandalay.

Location wise: it is around 10 mins ebike drive from Old Bagan. It is located at Anawrahta Road so you should be fine as most of major temples are accesible from Anawrahta Road.

However as they dont serve food for lunch/dinner, you will need to walk like 15 mins to closest dining area (La Terazza, Rain, Bibo, etc). Or you can find Sanon if you go the opposite way, within 15 mins walking.

Wifi is OK, didnt have issue during my stay.

Staff super nice - they are trying their best to help you and make your stay comfortable, although not everyone is fluent in English.

They have HBO and Fox Movies Premium channels.

Would be better if they can provide pick up service from Bus Station (if you go by bus from Yangon to Bagan) as the taxi drivers in the bus station is a rip off. They ask 15,000 kyats for 5 km distance from bus station to Motel Zein. I ended up paid 8000 kyats after difficult negotiation at 5 AM in the morning.

Perhaps - they will need to think to have lunch/dinner place close to their proximity.

Will come back to Motel Zein if I visit Bagan again.

The people who run this hotel couldn't be any nicer. And the owners daughter, who was often there helping behind the front desk, speaks very good English, which was so helpful, and rare to find. She also gave me great restaurant recommendations. I truly believe if you find the right hotel, everything else will fall into place. This hotel is brand new and very clean, and the rooms are perfect. Only problem I had was trying to make an advance booking because I couldn't find their contact info. It is motelzein.myanmar@gmail.com or +95 925 975 2044

I booked this motel a week earlier through Facebook before our stay. We were welcomed by very friendly and helpful staffs. We stayed at Deluxe room for one night (40 US$). The room was very spacious, and me and my wife fell in love with the bed which was very comfortable. Located very near to Nyaung U market, Shwe Zigon Pagoda, and Yar Khin Tha street (so called famous food street). We hired E bike for 10k MYK for the whole day, and it took about 15 mins to reach Old Bagan. Breakfast was delicious (to choose one from four choices) but not buffet. I will return for sure to this motel for my next visit. I guarantee all the guests will feel themselves at home because of kindhearted staffs.

I stayed there for 3 nights and this hotel is convenient and the location itself close everything. More than the property, the staff in the hotel is very nice. They are very helpful and and always assist you while you stay there. The hotel also has an ebike for you to rent .They can arrange the bus to go to other destinations and pick you up at the hotel. Overall for my stay is really good.

Don't be put off by its name. It was nowhere close to some of the US motels that I'd stayed in the past. While the room was basic, it was spacious and even had a balcony. The bathroom even had a bathtub. Water pressure was good and hot water was reliable.

What I really liked about my stay was the staff's hospitality and its location.

I arrived on the night bus from Yangon and even though it was 6am when I arrived, the lady in charge was able to accommodate me and allow me to check in and go up to the room for a much needed shower. The staff spoke relatively good English and the boys were very friendly, an experience you won't find staying in hotel chains.

Despite some reviewers mentioning that Nyaung U were far from the temples compared to Old Bagan and New Bagan, I found that this was mitigated by the main road just outside Motel Zein which got me to the main temples in no time on E-Bikes which they do rent at a very reasonable price, and the hotel is a few streets to the "Restaurant Row" of Nyaung U. I rode my E-bike to both Old and New Bagan and found that Motel Zein was really well situated compared to the other hotels I came across, even the more posh ones nearer to the Airport.

For these excellent plus points, the hotel was very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again the next time I visit.

Stayed here last-minute after driving up from Yangon. The staff were really kind and helpful. We had a good room with comfortable beds and working AC. Wifi wasn't too bad either. Bathroom is a wet room but shower was great. Breakfast delicious options too. Good location to lots of restaurants and cafes.

Staff is very knowledgeable with good command of English. They helped us organized a taxi for our trip to Mt. Popa. We had a great taxi driver, Mr.U Kyain Zin. He was very educated, interested in history, he had a lot of information about the history of our country.
The buffet breakfast was simple, not too good and poor.I am gluten free, I had no choice. The hotel is in a convenient location.
This is a good hotel. Not too luxury but comfortable. The rooms are sufficient and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful with attentive attitude.

We really liked Motel Zein because the room was comfortable, very clean and spacious and the staff were service oriented. It's a good base for exploring Bagan. Restaurant Row is about a 15 minute walk away down a well-lit major road with a sidewalk. We also thought the breakfast buffet at the hotel was pretty decent: eggs, toast, yogurt, and a noodle or rice dish. Not amazing but fine. On the whole, Motel Zein is an excellent value for the money.
