I’m usually not a fan on the period hotels. Usually overdone with too many antiques on the walls, etc This one achieves a great balance. I stayed in one of the large bedrooms on the first floor and it was great. Beautifully restored room with many original (or old) features but not over the top. The veranda type restaurant room is great too, mixing old and modern. I didn’t try the pool but it look nice and clean. Good service and the breakfast was ok. Only issue was that the room was a bit noisy with the sound of street vendors and music quite late into the night. But with this type of vila you can’t have it all. I also wished the ceiling fans worked, to avoid turning on the A/C
Battambang is home to some of Indochina's best preserved colonial era architecture. So staying in a historic hotel was de rigueur. Just reading up about La Villas history transports you to another era. It was constructed in the 1930's by a local tradesman in typical 20th-century French architecture. After his death, his children lived in the residence till the coup in 1975. After the Khmer rouge, it became the HQ for the Vietnamese army. And after they left, it went into the hands of a Cambodian General. For many years, the house was squatted. Abandoned, forgotten. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In 2004 a couple of expats fell in love with the charm and beauty of this ancient residence. They undertook massive renovations to regain its splendour, transforming it into an elegant hotel. They thoroughly recreated the 1930's ambiance with Art deco furniture, electrical equipment (fans, switches, light fittings), aged photos and antiques. A leather-bound album in the lobby shows the impressive before and after photos. I am transported into the past, making me feel I am staying in a hotel that used to belong to my great grandparents in Ostende/Belgium. I am enchanted by this hotel. A supper spacious bedroom with original tiles, a romantic poster bed, a victorian bath, relaxing around the pool, eating breakfast in the atrium. The food deserves its own accolades. The chef makes his own bread, cold meats, pâtés, preserved olives. Yummm. We were treated like Royals 👑. …
We were very privileged to stay in this beautiful Colonial style hotel. The history here is so rich, an entire photo album exists for you if you are interested to see it. The hotel is beautifully restored and is magnificent in all aspects. The garden is lush and green and the pool is just right! The manager Dara and his team at this hotel are extremely friendly and their level of service is excellent! To top it off they also speak english and French very well! The chef is the Michelangelo of cooking as he certainly knows how to turn food into art! His creations are scrumptious and the portions generous. He makes is own bread, jams and cured/cold meats as well. The rooms are huge and the bathrooms and bedrooms gorgeous. The AC works perfectly so the stay is 5 star! I will gladly return here if every given the opportunity to! YOU have to try them when you visit Battanbang!…
Staying at La Villa Battambang, made me feel like I was living in the French colonial period. The villa's history itself dates back since 1933. From the way I looked at the hotel features, it keeps most of its original design and features after the renovation to run as a boutique hotel. If you are an architectural building lover, then you should stay there. The hotel is in Art Deco architectural style plastered in a yellow limewash, which was a trendy style back then when it was built. The villa is set back from the street, overlooking the street and by the Sangker River, in a well-enclosure that gives you enough privacy despite staying inside the city center. The room that I stayed in is very spacious, and of course, it was a superior room. The furniture have a distinct style. If we turned back the time, that room must have been the master bedroom of the villa owner. It has a large balcony in the front but there is a banyan tree that acts as a natural curtain to block the view of the room from being seen from the street, which I really love to ensure even more privacy. The nearby attractions at a walking distance include Romcheik5 gallery, Wat Kandal (a setting place for the most beloved literature of Battambang - Pka Sropoun), and a very popular public park for the locals gathering - Samdech Sar Keng Park. A 15 minutes walk to the south, you will reach the former Governor Residence, the famous landmark of Battambang. Last but not least, I recommend you reserve some time to swim, as it has a really lovely pool at the back of the compound, next to the outer house. It is even greater if your evening is accompanied by lovely dining under the glazed roof patio restaurant, adjoining to the main villa.…
We visited here for a week (traveling from Phnom Penh) and stayed in a Deluxe room. The rooms were spacious and cool with beautiful vintage fixtures. It felt like a home away from home in a bygone era. We were working from the hotel room which was well set up for this with a large desk. The staff were great and tasty breakfast was included with different specials offered each day. The pool area and garden is private and secluded at the rear of the hotel is a relaxing place to chill out. This hotel is pet friendly too which for us made it a perfect option. Would absolutely recommend this looking for a base to explore beautiful Battambang.
