We spent 4 nights here, mid February , and we found our experience incredible.

The property was amazing , impressive the location surrounded by rocky coloured mountains , perfectly located within the dramatic nature around it .

The atmosphere was very quiet and relaxed and any corner was enjoyable ; the different areas around the many small swimming pools were absolutely lovely.

The room was very comfortable with a nice terrace overlooking the beautiful landscape .

Food and drink were great .

The service and staff were super: friendly , caring and very professional .

We booked the “all inclusive” formula - Catarpe - by which, per day , we had they possibility to chose between 2 half day excursions or 1 full day excursion.

Everything was perfectly organised from the moment we arrived .

Nothing was left to chance : everything was available : even sunscreen 50 and lip balm - anything that could reduce the problems related to the location.

All the excursion were wonderful and well planned, according to the altitude to reach .

Breakfast , lunch and sundowner in the middle of nothing were superb !

We want to thank everyone of the staff and a special thank is for David , who was in charge of planning our excursions; the day we went to the Altiplanico lagoons- one of our most wanted excursion- unfortunately we couldn’t visit them because , due to the bad weather of the previous night , they had to close it .
We knew how difficult was to re- plan everything but David realised our disappointment , did his best and was able to arrange the same excursion before we left : great David !!

Definitely at Naraya Alto Atacama we had more than we expected !

This hotel is located in a fertile oasis in the Atacama desert around 3km from San Pedro de Atacama. The site itself is amazing with a cactus garden outside our bedroom, a llama park just beyond, Andean vegetable gardens, shady seats, calming Algorrobo trees and scented Rica-Rica bushes. It’s the service and staff friendliness that sets this hotel apart. Enrique and his smiling team in the restaurant are exemplary. The waitresses spoke good English and could describe the dishes on the menu and even go beyond to talk about how to grow the herbs used in flavouring. Every dish was beautifully presented and almost all featured a local ingredient or Atacama aspect. Loved the Rica-Rica crème brûlée.

Our bedroom was clean, large with a huge and comfortable bed and Andean wall hangings. The bathroom had a neat clerestory window shafting daylight down to basin and mirrors. Enjoyed the luxury shower. We had a patio with sofa and chairs to relax. We loved the locally woven blanket on the sofa so much that we asked to buy it - answer yes!

Friendly bar where we chatted with other guests before and after dinner. Somehow they make interaction easier than many other hotels.

The package includes excursions within what you pay. The lad who explained the excursion options to us five minutes after our arrival was rather confusing but he’s probably new to the hotel. I recommend the cactus hike which was a half day trek down a canyon full of six metre cacti. Manuel is an impressive guide. We opted out of the Geyser trip because of the hours of bumpy road and the temptation of the delightful grounds. We did take the courtesy car to San Pedro for a couple of hours for church, market and general atmosphere. Also walked to the Quitor hill fort about 5 minutes away. Lots to do and also good reasons to do nothing.

Everything just seemed to flow well during our stay and maybe this is credit to Rosario of Guest Relations who is always ready to help out or offer good advice. Thanks.

This is an exceptional hotel in every respect: location; design (built on a single floor with local materials); excursions, and - relatively rare in Chile - first class cooking. The feeling is airy and tranquil: a marvellous absence of raucous and banal 'music' in the dining area, a young and lively staff, and knowledgable guides who accompany the drivers on the excursions offered by the hotel. You can be as formal and informal as you like. The superb weather encourages relaxation, not simply in the private space of one's own room, or own suite. I've only ever stayed in one other hotel (El Torre del Visco, in Spain) which can match it for its combination of elegance, comfort and cuisine with an entire lack of pretentiousness or bling. And the clarity of the stars at night is unparalleled. Highly recommended.

This is a lovely and well thought out property. The rooms are spacious and have nice patios. The bathroom was large with two sinks, a shower, makeup mirror, heated towel bar and full-length mirror. There was WiFi all over the property but no TV in our room. one of the people in our group did have TV. The views were also lovely .

The food is OK. The one night they had a buffet and that really wasn’t very good.

The staff was very friendly and really tried to please.

We enjoyed the stargazing one night. They have a special platform with a telescope up the hill complete with beds so you can lie down and watch the stars as the guide explains what you are seeing.

We really enjoyed our three nights at Alto Atacama. The rooms are very nice and spacious with fantastic views from a private terrace. Upon checking in, they asked if we wanted a portable air conditioner for our room, and we were glad we said yes. The property is beautiful and we really enjoyed feeding the llamas on site. The excursions were excellent...especially the sunset trip to lagoons and the moon valley hike. Be sure to consider the altitude when booking excursions your first day or two (I have altitude issues so thankfully started my altitude meds a couple of days in advance). The only downside to the excursions was that the roads are mostly dirt and can be very bumpy. It rained more than usual when we were there and some roads were closed, so some excursions were cancelled (obviously no fault of Alto). The only reason we would not give five stars is that we found the food was a little disjointed in flavors and the portions were small and the service in the bar and restaurant were quite slow at times. However, the employees were all very friendly. We would recommend Alto!

A perfect experience from start to finish.
Every day a new adventure awaits, mountain bike riding, hiking, exploring the stars, floating in salt lagoon, sunset cheese and wine in the desert - and each and every time amazing staff made you feel welcomed.
The rooms were a lovely twist on traditional styles, I especially loved my room having an outdoor shower. The multiple pools, spaces and places across the hotel are very well done - dinner outside with an open fire, on terrace overlooking the mountains all very well done.
Contrary to some reviews, I found the wifi to be excellent and worked while here including video calls, service almost perfect, and the team very lovely. Me attempting poor Spanish was well received, however everyone speaks perfect English.
The meals were amazing, beautiful salads, (not sure what the reviews by vegetarians were complaining about as there were ample veg and vegan options) and great wines. I am genuinely struggling to find fault in the hotel, and the staff are so warm, attentive and kind. Whether adventure or explorative, the daily excursions suit everyone

Alto Atacama is an absolute gem. Hidden in a stunningly beautiful valley the privacy and facilities are fabulous. We opted for the full board package which made everything simple. We had a Tilo suite which was very private and featured an outdoor shower which after a full day exploring the desert was simply divine. The staff were excellent with the hostess, Rose; well I’m lost for words. We are relatively experienced travellers (75 countries) and we have never experienced a Rose. She was the commensurate hospitality professional. Nothing was a problem. I wanted something from town, no problem, she got it for me. Every morning and evening she would greet all the guests individually and chat about the day ahead and that was. The property is stunning but Rose made the experience world class.

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at Nayara Alto Atacama January 12-16 2022.
We visited Chile from Canada and due to COVID there were definitely a lot of hoops to jump through to be able to enter the country, but once we made it there everything was fantastic and we felt very safe.

Nayara Alto Atacama is a fantastic resort. We were fortunate to have a Tilo Suite and really enjoyed the extras this room has like a private outdoor sitting area and an outdoor shower. One day we woke up at 5am to lie in the outdoor shower and stare at the phenomenal stars!!

We felt so well taken care of from the moment we arrived at the airport in Calama and were met by the driver who transferred us to the hotel.
The food and drinks were excellent!
The entire staff were genuinely invested in ensuring we had the best experience possible. They were sure to cater the excursions to meet our desire to do as much as possible and that we wanted to do the most physically challenging/active options.
We biked to the salt lake and loved getting to float in it.
We loved the Cactus hike, the Rainbow valley hike, and the Jauna hike- all of them were so unique- there is really no other place in the world like Atacama. We were fortunate to have Joel as a guide on all 3 hikes and he was full of fascinating information about Chile and Atacama to chat with us about all day during our drives and hikes.

Thank you so much to everyone at Nayara Alto Atacama for making our stay magical!

We stayed four nights at this fantastic hotel in the Atacama. On arriving at Calama Airport they sent a car to meet us for the transfer to the hotel. I think the journey to the hotel took about 1.5 hours. The hotel is quite near to San Pedro but quite off the beaten track. On arrival we had a warm welcome from the manager Roseo, who was always there if we needed any help or advice. We were on full board, which included drinks as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also included were the many tours around the desert. In places, the Atacama desert is mountainous and the landscape is diverse. There is a lot to see and the Alto Atacama Hotel is a perfect base. We made the most of the trips on offer and a few times had our own guide, Roberto, a local guide who knew everything about the desert. On other occasions we shared with another couple.
The food at the hotel was very good indeed. It tasted good and was well presented. The staff were both friendly and professional. Now we are back in the UK my fondest memories of Chile are those of our stay at the Alto Atacama.

In theory, this hotel has a good concept. A one stop, all inclusive approach. They have the ability to provide all of your meals and excursions. Beautiful location and pools, but rooms do have thin walls and no TVs.

As many others mentioned however, the food is a bit average. Breakfast is pretty much continental and there are very few choices and the same thing everyday (yogurt, eggs, granola, 3 fruit choices, turkey cold cuts, or bacon/sausage) that's it.

The main reason for my 2 star rating however is that one of my desires while visiting the Atacama desert, and what I hoped would be a highlight of my trip, was a visit to the Tatio Geysers.

On Sunday I informed the staff that I would like to do the excursion for to Geysers on my last day. The hotel confirmed I was set for Monday and I corrected them that my last day would be Tues. The hotel informed me that hey had to confirm that it would be possible for me to go on Tuesday. I let them know that if Tuesday was not available, I would go on Monday but Tues was my preference. The hotel later confirmed that Tuesday was fine. Not a problem. I just needed to have my luggage ready to go at the front before leaving and that I would be set for Tuesday.

Now here we are at 5 pm on Monday when I no longer have any other options and all other tours are booked and the hotel informs me that my tour will be canceled. Despite the fact that I confirmed with them several times over the last two days. First I was told its because I leave on that day, when I reminded them that we discussed at length how it would work with the timing and me leaving my baggage at the front b4 leaving they then admitted that they wanted to cancel the tour b/c no one else signed up.

Obviously this is very upsetting being as this is my last day in the Atacama desert and I will likely not ever be back. The fact that I could have done the tour on Monday had they let me know is extremely frustrating and effectively ruined my trip. To add insult to injury, the hotel offered to make it right by allowing me to take the tour if I was willing to pay 4x as much as I was originally quoted from $104 USD to $403 USD. They also did not ever inform me of the risk of them cancelling the tour if no other guests signed up.

As a travel advisor and frequent traveler myself, customer service is a deal breaker. I can not recommend this establishment or place clients here if they are not willing to keep their word. Poor guest relations and lack of referrals will certainly cost them more than $300 in the long run.

If you are considering staying here, I would recommend booking your tours through an outside agency such as , Gato Andino and eating most f your meals in town which is a short drive away.

Awasi is also another great hotel option, not in as stunning of a location, but it is directly within the Small town here.

Hope this helps someone else from having their trip ruined.

Ola! The astronomical presentation was a short walk up to a platform near the resort and consisted of lying on recliners that spin in full circles while listening to the presenter talk about the various constellations and prominent stars, galaxies and nebulas in the Southern sky. She primarily uses a laser pointer and has a small, barrel side telescope for viewing various stars after the presentation. No one in our group took pictures using the telescope but you probably could. We learned and saw alot we didnt know about. Lasted about 90 minutes or so. We would do it again. Hard not to fall asleep during the presentation as it was so relaxing.

Sorry not to reply sooner. You can choose excursions from an extensive list. If you want to do some of the more energetic walking at altitude they will make you do a test trip first to make sure you can cope (really good idea). We thought the trips would be on a shared basis but we ended up on a private basis throughout. Hotel was just reopening after the floods. We actually had chosen the Alto so we could share and meet people (sometimes a lottery but mostly good fun). Hope this helps belatedly

Hi, although it will be winter it will still be pleasant to be honest. During the day it can be like 23-23C which is perfect but you’ll need to wrap up during the evening. You’ll still enjoy it, 100%!

Although a keen bike rider myself, I didn't ride while there. But I saw lots of 'young people" (late teens and 20s) riding around. There are many off road tracks apparently. The roads are narrow but not busy. The only caution I make is that nits very hot, dry and high altitude so fitness and luck (with altitude sickness) are factors.
