A place to be if you are a star gazing fanatics. Mostly used by astronomical clubs from around the world. Surprised to find there was no entry in TripAdvisor. There is a hotel (Cottages) in the place where you can stay. You can rent telescopes. Away from main town ( apox 6 to 7 KM ) .

We arrived in San Pedro sans baggage, which had been stolen in Calama earlier that day -- our car was broken into. Alain kindly lent us big ski jackets to keep warm during our stay. The Lodge is 5 km south of town and *very* quiet and *very* dark at night, in line with the owners' astronomy activities. Our adobe... More

Our group of five stayed here for two nights for three reasons: to go on a star tour; to gaze at the night skies on our own; and to have a full day of rest from all the excursions in a quiet and spectacular setting. We shopped for groceries in San Pedro and had two taxis drop us off; it... More

The lodge is 3,5 km away from San Pedro... This means you need a car, but then you can fully enjoy that isolated place. The lodges are perfect. Clean, spacious, fully equipped and nicely decorated. Each lodge has a private terrace to admire the summits on the Bolivian side. The owner is a French astronomer and with his wife they... More

What an amazing place this is. It's part of the observatory that's used for the star tours in the evenings. We had lodge number one and couldn't of enjoyed it more. Your totally self sufficient (if you have your own food) with a great kitchen, drinking water, hot water, a gas heater and even an area outside where you can... More

My wife and I spent two nights here in a lodge whilst in san pedro. We loves every minute of it. The views alone from our bedroom window of the volcano and the mountains were worth the trip alone! We also took the star tour on our second night. Alain is a fantastic funny guy who is passionate about what... More

Located approximately 5 km south of the Chilean Town of San Pedro de Atacama this lodge is primarily for those with serious interests in Astronomy. Owned by world-class astronomer, Alain Maury and his charming wife, Alejandra, the individual lodges are spotless, spacious and are made of local materials, including real thatched roofs! As an added bonus the over 20,000 foot volcano(Llancanabur)... More

In April 2009 I had the opportunity to pass through San Pedro de Atacama while on a South American journey. I knew the skies of the Atacama dessert were renowned to astronomers around the world and was even more excited when I learned of Alain Maury's astro tourism facility. Atacama Lodge is not your usual place to stay for a... More

“Definitely need a car. Bring flashlights. Get there before dark or you'll never find the way. (We paid a taxi to lead us out there in the dark.) Be sure to take the stargazing tour, which is by an active professional astronomer. Plan on staying a few days; this is not a place to be rushed.”
