11/5 was a raining day and our first day reaching Huangshan Mountain. We checked in Beihai Hotel which was equipped with elevator. We later on learned that every single brick, tile and all supplies and foods (except rocks are from local) are from down there and carried by carriers. Knowing how difficult to carry the goods to the Huangshan Mountain top, I care all the foods I had and place I tased up here. Outside the hotel, I finally saw the Huagan (two bamboo with a chair) which has been used to carry tourists who could not or don’t want to walk.

One of several mountain top hotels in the Huangshan Mountains National Park. You stay here because you want to spend more time in the mountains than on a day trip and perhaps catch a sunrise. Although listed as Four Star and having hosted President Xi and former President Deng, among other celebrities, it is dirty and shabby. It was a big deal to obtain extra toilet paper and there is nothing special about the hotel, its dining room other than location. That having been said, Everything is brought in via cable car and (unfortunately) Human carriers, shouldering backbreaking loads. (No mules or donkeys here.) Reception check in/out was a hassle. Limited English spoken by staff.

At the top of the mountain. Great view and good location to visit various spots to see the sun rise. The hotel is old and it shows. Considering how difficult it is to carry all the materials up the mountain, it is really pretty reasonable.

The hotel is at the top of the mountain and from the reviews we expected it to be not very good. The room was smallish but suitable and the beds very comfortable. The room was cold and the heater small but under the duvet we were warm and slept very well. The room was quiet after everyone else had settled down. There was a bath in the room with lots of hot water.

Breakfast, as well as the buffet lunch was very ordinary and all the bake Marie’s have no heat so everything’s in them is usually very cold except as soon as it is bought out.

Wifi was free and quite fast considering the location.

For westerners, people smoking as always is a problem and the locals ignore the no smoking signs.

We stayed overnight in the Beihai Hotel on top of Huangshan so we could get up early and watch the sunrise. The hotel is a bit dated - the room was small - but nice and the mattress was reasonably soft by China standards. The hotel has warm down jackets in the closet for use on cold mornings. The food was not so good - buffet food that should have been warm but unfortunately not. Plus the menu never varied. Great location to view scenery and hike to al hte peaks.
Thank Craig D

Sorry I misread the final cable car time. You should make it with three hours depending on what time you get transport from Huangshan. Hour ten minutes was by private transfer with a guide.

Take the cable car from Yungu cable car station. To get to the cable car you need to take a bus from Tangkuo bus station.

Definitely stay on the mountain and I'd strongly recommend Xihai Hotel, but book online (much cheaper). Cable cars take you most of the way but there's still quite a walk, though the scenery is stunning. yu can arrange at... More
