Its just a hotel. This place is in no way a hostel. Rooms are ok but are more expensive then advertised here. Suggest booking online if you're planning on staying. Breakfast was questionable at best. Rooms are pretty clean and come with plug in mosquito traps. Don't expect much help in english here or anywhere in chengde for that matter.

Looking at the website you'd think that this is a hostel in the Western sense, a place where one can meet fellow travellers. Well in reality this is basically an ordinary Chinese hotel with one Western owner. The change may have been the result of their move to a larger hotel. Mine may be the first review since the move.... More

My husband and I stayed in a private room, which was like any other cheap hotel we've stayed at in China in the last three weeks: basic, but clean, and actually with a bit more room than, say, an Ibis. It definitely wasn't like staying in a hostel at all, which we didn't mind. The bathroom was quite spacious, with... More

You just have to go to see Chengde. Rural part, and really China inside. Rosie and her husband are kindly, helpfully and will help to your stay in Chengde. If you want to see the real China, you should go to Ming´s Dynasty to meet this amazing couple. Thanks for everything!

Very receptive and lovely host when we called ahead to book with the Lady of the hostel. Her husband was grumpy when we arrived and we had to fight our way in to a cheaper room. The twin room was 140 with no bathroom. He wanted to up the price 20 for the holiday. He also wanted 270 for the... More

Everything that everybody else has said is exactly true. What a great place to stay! Friendly, helpful. Ming went out of his way to make sure we got the most out of not only their hostel, but out of Chengde. Not too many hostel owners care what kind of experience you have in the city you're in. They're just concerned... More

Rosie & Ming are terrific owners, who go out of their way to help. The hostel was clean & comfortable. However, the train horns were loud.

Any one going to China would know the difficulties of traveling without speaking a word of Chinese... So for me checking in at Ming's Dynasty was the most important thing I did on my trip to China!!! we were the very first customers at the hostel and the only customers there!! The hostel is managed by super dual husband +... More
