The setup and surroundings was nice but the rooms have seen better days. The floors were dusty, carpets in the verandah needs changing. There was a hole in the wooden tub. Gutters of the roof were falling down. Overall, although the staff were helpful and nice, the place needs upgrading.

With only 10 minutes walk from Shuhe town the Bruce Chalet is a perfect basis for exploring Lijiang. The rooms are located around a little garden which makes the place feel like an oasis in busy Lijiang. The interior of the rooms is beautifully designed and they are very clean. Some simple dishes can be ordered for lunch or dinner...

We stayed for 6 days in April/May & loved it, had the mountain view room. Watched sunrise & sunset over Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Magic. The gardens are homely & lovely, especially with the streams that help preserve the timber chalet, a delight in spring. We ate cheap simple breakfast & dinners prepared Linda the English speaking manager, so much easier...

As many has reviewed before me, this place is more of a guesthouse rather than a hotel. For me the place is wonderful tucked away from the busy streets of lijiang and shuhe old town. The rooms were comfortable and hot shower functions perfectly. The garden was lush and peaceful and it was truly blissful to just sit there and...

Not so much a hotel, more of a guesthouse, the Bruce Chalet does make for a quiet retreat away from the crazy crowds of Lijiang (and the merely busy Shuhe). It took our driver several attempts before he found - and he's been there before! However, it is only a 10minute walk into Shuhe - with its shops, bars and...

A great place to stay in Lijiang. It has a lovely courtyard with lots of plants, some cherry blossom trees and cobbled paths. They also have 3 really adorable dogs which love to follow you around but are extremely harmless. Rooms are adequate with the necessary amenities and a great electric heated matteress for the cold winter. They provide hot...

The owner had organised a car to pick me up at the airport and when we left the highway I wondered where we were going. We didn't seem to be going anywhere....I was wrong, shortly after we arrived in a cosy courtyard where I was greeted welcome. Later I learned that one of the old cities were only 10 minutes...

Stayed here for two nights after a trip round Northwest Yunnan. It is absolutely lovely - set in a quiet part of Shuhe that is far more authentic than the touristy centre. You can see the mountains from the balcony and there is a beautiful garden you can chill out in. The rooms are really nicely decorated with huge comfy...
