Ann, who runs the place, is a lovely person who really looked after us. There were flowers from the garden on our table at dinner and we had olives that she had made herself, etc etc. In the evening, we were invited to sit around a fire in a kind of camp area and she spent the evening chatting and keeping us going with non stop tea from her staff. She and her husband made us feel like family.
The mid range accommodation we chose here was good value but the shower could have done with a curtain to keep the floor dry. The slightly more expensive rooms have a separate wet area in the much larger ensuites. (You get what you pay for!). We were here in Dec and it was cold so a wet bathroom isn't that great.
We were passing through on our own tour of the Deserts so we didn't use her and her husband's safari tours, but we would certainly return to stay there if we go to Bahariya again. (And maybe get the top rooms. Just built and looking very nice.)
The hotel is very close to Alexander's temple, which is on most people's list.

Four of us stayed at the Golden Valley hotel a couple of weeks ago. It is run by Ann and her husband Ahmed, both friendly and welcoming, you feel like you came to visit your old friends. The rooms are simple, but comfortable and clean, with a separate bathroom/wet room. Freshly prepared food (with goodies from Ann’s garden!) and helpful staff. And a swimming pool! In the evening, you can enjoy a stroll around the gardens, or join everyone in the camp/tent around the fire. It’s a very relaxing environment, and a great location for trips around Bahariya or the desert.

We stayed at the hotel after a fantastic week-long trip we also booked through Ann/Golden Valley Safari – we travelled through the Black Desert, White Desert, Great Sand Sea and Siwa. What a truly unforgettable experience!
If you come to Bawiti (or Egypt for that matter), do not miss the chance to spend at least a day or two, or longer if you can, in the desert! If you’re not an outdoorsy person, don’t be put off by the idea of camping – you get mattresses, tents and sleeping bags, and the meals are freshly prepared for you by one of the drivers/guides. And experiencing a sunset and sunrise in the desert is something you will remember for the rest of your life.
If there are particular places you’d like to visit, just tell Ann and Ahmed and they’ll tailor-make the trip for you. They also arranged a driver to take us to Cairo at the end of our stay.
I would definitely use Golden Valley hotel and tours next time I have a chance to visit Egypt.

If you want to put yourself in a completely new situation, this is the place. You start off at the hotel to get prepared for the desert safari. The hotel is simple but serves as a good starting point. The large adventure starts with the desert safari, sleeping under the stars, cooking over open fire, etc, etc. This trip is something I would strongly recommend and as far as I understand it is safe to go there although we get another picture through media.

Around new year 2011 me and my family stayed for a week at the Golden Valley Hotel & Safari. A week we will never forget!
We were guided around in the Baharía oasis, to see fantastic pharaoh-time tombs, nice desert views and daily street life in a small town in Egypt, and more.
However, the peak of our stay was a three day tour right out in the Sahara desert. We were all in all seven (ages 7 - 69), and we got with us three nice men, Amr, Mohammad and Hassan, and two Toyota jeeps, pre 2000 model. (they say these models are the last ones you can service yourself out in the desert. With a modern car your just lost if something breaks!)
It was an amazing trip. The desert changed from hour to hour as we rode, I could never imagine a desert could take so many shapes. Look at my pictures and you get some hint of it.
All meals were very well cooked by the boys, and served nicely on a low table we brought along all the way, with a cloth on it of course! Real Egyptian meals, with lot's of small plates, always good.
At night they had planned especially beautiful places. The cars were parked in an angle, big pieces of fabric were put in an angle, so that we got like a room with three walls. There we ate and slept, with the desert sky above our heads, and all the beauty around us.

What I in the beginning found frustrating was that no one asked us what we wanted to do, things just happened. After a while I realized this was hardly a problem. I had really no idea of what I should chose to do or see at a place so far away from my previous experience, so we just flew along and enjoyed the stay. However, we found out we wanted to try a camel ride, and as soon as we talked to the hotel owner about that, she helped us arrange for it, no problem.

My wife and I spent a week at Christmas time at the Golden Valley Hotel & Safari last winter. After being conveniently picked up at Cairo International Airport we enjoyed the friendly, calm ambiance, the quiet nights and the high degree of cleanness at the hotel.

Besides interesting ancient historical sites in its close surroundings, including an excellent newly built museum for mainly pre-Christian artifacts, the town of Bawiti provided opportunities for some shopping and to see a lively street life in a welcoming way. Imposing date-palm plantations are also found as hot water springs allowing bathing. We were told that the inhabitants are predominantly of Bedouin background and hence somewhat different from most people living in the Nile valley.

The magnificent sun was unclouded all the time. The hotel arranged a Toyota 4-weel safari for three days in the desert. This was a uniquely pleasant and interesting trip. The landscape was surprisingly varied in character with constantly shifting topography, with mountainous, hilly, volcano-like areas, some gigantic sand dunes as well as great open plains. The dominant color changed from blackish to light brown to whitish. Multiple remarkable great rock and salt-like formations were seen, some of which appear on Egyptian tourist brochures internationally. The horizon changed all the time during the drive. We passed areas rich in fossil flowers and tree trunks and twigs.

Two nights we slept under the clear, silent, clean sky and were provided with all necessary service and food by our skilful and kind chauffeurs. It was truly a wonderful, unique experience, which can be recommended to anyone who has an eye for natural sceneries and beauty in a most pleasant atmosphere.

Room Tip: Under the stars is the best room ever! If you stay at the camp the simple hutts are OK.
