The Steigenberger Alcazar is a truly outstanding resort in the most beautiful of locations. The photos and Youtube videos accurately show you the spacious rooms, attractive low-rise buildings, gorgeous pools, immaculate gardens and beautiful beach front. What you have to be here to experience is the warmth, friendliness and genuine good humour of all the staff - from waiters, to lifeguards to cleaners. Add to that the sea promenade which takes you 800m out over the turquoise bay to the most amazing coral reef, with snorkelling as good as you'll find anywhere outside of the Caribbean or Australia. And did I mention the 5 a-la-carte restaurants and the poolside bar providing amazing dining in beautiful settings? And so quiet - there is no such thing as queuing here, even in mid April. We'd never done, or wanted to do, an 'all-inclusive' holiday before, but this was a truly wonderful week of luxury with absolutely no extra costs. I asked my wife what they could have improved upon and she couldn't think of anything (except maybe reducing the 6 hour flight in cramped seats). A few tips: 1) Go online and book your a-la-carte restaurants as soon as you arrive. You can book 3 days in advance so you might find the first 2 nights are already booked. Then book every day 3 days ahead. (The restaurant tables are never full but, for some reason they get booked up quickly.) 2) Bring snorkel gear and flippers. They are provided (washed) on the pier, but best to have your own. 3) Tipping - I only saw two instances of cash tipping. We brought no cash and didn't tip until the last day (please don't judge me :-) ). I didn't feel any pressure to tip and we got wonderful friendly service at all times. 4) Pool-3 nearest the beach is 'adults only' but pool-1 is amazingly quiet too. Most of the kids are at pool-2 but it's still very relaxed and uncrowded there. 5) There are 2 cash points (ATMs) just to the left of the main entrance as you exit and you can get Egyptian pounds there 6) The minibar is re-stocked every day with wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks (no charge for all inclusive) and lots of bottled water left in the room every day. 7) Lunch at the poolside bar at pool-2 (the middle pool) is excellent, as is the lunch at the beach bar (smaller menu) and also Mousa bar at pool-1 if it is open. 8) If dining at the main buffet restaurant, try the outside Grill. Tell the chef what you'd like (leave him plates to reserve your spot), then get your salads from the buffet and come back for fresh bbq meat and fish.

Hotel's Favourite
We have just returned to the U.K. having spent 2 weeks at the Alcazar and I was very impressed. The hotel was spotless throughout with well tended gardens and a really relaxed vibe. We had a Beautiful room (we paid a bit extra and had a generous sized corner room) close to the beach and adults pool. Our housekeeper (Mohammed) was superb changing our beach towels every evening and ensuring our mini bar was stocked with our preferred stuff. November is an ideal month to go as apparently all schools and colleges hold exams at that time, hence occupancy was @40%. This meant the restaurant booking was easy and loads of space poolside. We ate at buffet the night we arrived and after that a La carte every other night. Teppanyaki was good fun, sushi was excellent and the bbq kebabs at the Lebanese superb. Fav for lunch was the Seafood restaurant, just off the beach with a great breeze (special mention to Ahmed our waiter who looked after us every day and was excellent). There’s a well equipped gym with a small outside pool down near the front gate. I like to walk after breakfast so would take the path at the beach which is about 5 miles through the other hotel areas. It’s quite quiet and you can use it to jog if so inclined. Like most hotels there’s also a long pier which is fun to walk and spot fish. It’s also used for snorkelling when the conditions allow. You can also wander out quite far in the shallow water so worth taking beach shoes. Poolside service was excellent. Middle pool was “activity” and the music cld get a bit annoying. Suggest they turn it down when the restaurant adjacent is serving late breakfast as my wife and I cldnt hear each other. Top pool was huge and very quiet. Bottom pool was adult only and busy, but it was also the nearest for us. Every day at breakfast or poolside we would encounter guest relations who would make sure any issues were sorted. Every morning and night the restaurants were visited by Operations Chief to ensure there were no issues. Every blue shirted manager we passed would always ask if we had any issues. Most impressive. Some people were bitten by mosquitoes. Worth taking Jungle Formula or similar. My wife usually gets bitten but not this time. I got a few but they were quite benign. We had an upper room so maybe not such a problem? We were never bitten in the room or restaurants. Staff were out in evenings with mosquito zappers and spray. Saw some horrific cases when I was out walking through other hotels. This was our first time in Egypt and would definitely return to this hotel in Sharm. Very relaxing, lovely rooms, amazing staff and good selection of restaurants. Highly recommended.

Having recently stayed at the Steigenberger Alcazar in Sharm el Sheikh, we found several highlights and a few areas for improvement. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, providing a comfortable retreat after a day of relaxing by the pool or beach. The mini bar was regularly topped up with water, beer, wine and soft drinks, a thoughtful touch appreciated during our stay. We did have to ask the room cleaner for additional supplies of bottled water, as all the water supplied throughout the complex at the pools, bars and restaurants, is by the glass and is filtered we believe. We were not happy with this from a health point of view as tourists visiting Egypt and would prefer bottled water to be supplied throughout the hotel. We understand that the hotel used to supply bottled water throughout the complex and this has now changed. Both myself and my husband suffered from stomach upsets during the final days of our holiday and the only thing which we feel may have been the cause was the filtered water. I am sure that this filtered water meets Egyptian regulations and guidelines with regards to minimum hygeine standards, but it may not agree with everyone's digestive systems - especially foreign tourists. The large bed was comfortable, although it may be on the firm side for some guests but was fine for us. One of the highlights was the dining experience. The a la carte restaurants offered delicious meals, with a variety of cuisines to choose from - Asian, Teppenyaki, Italian, Lebanese and Seafood. You can only book the A La Carte restaurant’s 3 days in advance, and availability even then was patch. It’s advisable to book as soon as you arrive for best choice. While the buffet restaurant food was reasonable, it didn't quite match the quality of the a la carte options, especially during the evening. The buffet breakfast was pretty good. As for drinks, while generally satisfactory, the absence of imported alcohol on the all-inclusive package was a downside and the option to purchase imported alcohol was prohibitively expensive. The Egyptian wine provided in the room mini bar and at restaurants was not good, but the imported French and South African wine was passable. The sparkling wine was also OK. As for the other drinks/cocktails etc, while generally satisfactory, the local/generic brands of alcohol used were of a lower quality and this impacted on the quality and taste of the drinks. Service at the hotel was generally good, although there were some inconsistencies. Tipping seemed to improve the level of service significantly, although it was disappointing to encounter staff who appeared disinterested and preoccupied with their phones. We spent most of our time at the first pool, appreciating its relative calm compared to the others. However, it's worth noting that this pool is not heated like the others, which may affect enjoyment during cooler weather. The adult only pool was packed and only getting to it at 7 am guaranteed a sunbed. We didn’t use the beach area, apart from the jetty for snorkelling, which was OK but nothing like the coral and fish quality that you find in some other resort areas of Sharm. One aspect that left us a bit disappointed was the handling of our flight delay. When we requested a later check-out due to our delayed return flight, we were offered the option at an additional cost of 70 dollars, which we found unreasonable for a five-star hotel. The lack of any alternative facilities for private shower and changing only added to our disappointment - all we were offered was to shower at the beach and change in a changing cubicle! In conclusion, the Steigenberger Alcazar is a good hotel with spacious rooms, delicious dining options, and generally attentive service. However, the change from bottled water and the inconsistencies in service quality and certain limitations such as lack of flexibility with flight delays, prevent it from meeting expectations as a five-star establishment.

We had a brilliant week and would have loved to have stayed longer! The hotel is stunning with a great choice of several lovely bars, restaurants and pool areas. The service was excellent - especially from Magdi who kept our rooms beautifully serviced and stocked throughout our stay - thank you. We were travelling with our two teenage children who were equally very happy the whole week which is confirmation indeed of a great holiday. We hope to be able to come back very soon!

A group of friends and I enjoyed a week of pure indulgence at this wonderful hotel. The grounds, pools and the beach area are all immaculately maintained and the hotel has a chilled and relaxing ambiance. I particularly enjoyed my daily yoga sessions with Irina, either in the beautiful gardens or on the beach, facing the sea. Bliss! My friends and I ate in a wide range of restaurants during our stay and the food was delicious throughout. What defines this hotel though is the exceptional level of service from all the staff. It surpassed my expectations and I’m already looking forward to a return visit!

UK Family of 4 just returned from 7 nights at the Steigenberger. Overall resort was clean, good choice of pools, a la carte restaurants and a pier that led to a coral reef for snorkelling although water was fairly rough. Had to request a room switch as we were right next to the entertainment on the ground floor and the walls were thin so could hear everything including neighbouring rooms above and next door! I would recommend requesting a top floor room as it will be better on the mosquito front too. To set expectations the beach is not the powder soft sand the pictures indicate, it's more gravelly and pretty much full of cigarette butts near the seating areas which was annoying especially with children playing. Staff would just brush sand over the top to cover it up. The beach cabanas were free to use but people would reserve them with their towels etc from the night before so even if you get up super early to get one you would be disappointed, especially when the people that reserved them didn't turn up until the afternoon to use it. The heated pool was the main focus area of the hotel and much better on the service front, even with staff offering to clean your sunglasses. The restaurants had a fair amount of choice but the food wasn't amazing, the biggest let down was the service in the restaurants - it was quicker to go and get a drink yourself rather than wait for someone to take your order. The children's entertainment seemed to be more Russian focussed and the kids opted against it after a couple of days. Overall a good holiday as we went on a few excursions but we would likely try another hotel/resort if we returned to Sharm in future.
