Had a most enjoyable stay at Albabenshal Lodge, Siwa in November 2023. Arriving after a long bus trip from Alexandria the manager, Salama, offered a welcoming tea and conversation. Salama was extremely kind and friendly throughout my stay, providing helpful advice and arranging local sightseeing for several of us who were staying at the hotel at the same time. Due to an early check-out he provided me with a breakfast box for my bus trip. Thanks also to Mohammed, who took us to many sights, including the salt lakes and hot springs in his (Ferrari) tuk tuk. The room was simple but comfortable (and being an interior room it was quiet). I had several meals at the Albabenshal (including on the upstairs terrace with amazing views over the adjoining 13th century Shali fortress), all of which were good. Breakfast was delicious and the large tables conducive to conversation and making friends with other guests. And finally the location is wonderful. Right in the historic centre of Siwa and next to the Shali fortress. Would definitely recommend.

We really loved our stay at Al Babinshal. We a ground floor room with wonderful original features (as the hotel is part of the old fort) and simple, stylish decor. Despite the 40 degree heat the room was cool. The breakfast was the best of all the breakfasts we had in Egypt - falafel, eggs, fruit and wonderful hibiscus jam! Salaman, the owner is a really special guy, he made us feel really at home, nothing was too much trouble and he helped with tours in/around Siwa and onward travel and accommodation without being pushy or over-pricing. try and contact the hotel direct to get best rates.

As always we booked a group dinner at Albabenshal Hotel in Siwa.

The dinner was great, service was fast and everybody enjoyed it.

We highly recommend having lunch or dinner at Albabenshal while visiting Siwa.

The staff is friendly, helpful to the extend that is within their reach, they really care for you as if you were their own. I felt safe and soo welcomed. They are such humble and honest people. Rooms are not kept as tidy as they should and blankets were not warm enough for the chilly nights but everything else was great.

I loved staying at the beautiful Albabenshal Lodge. Incredible style, great location, and Salama is a wonderful, warm hearted host. Also best breakfasts! Felt like home away from home. I’ll definitely be back. ………………………………………………………….

Not for those who prefer standard hotels with reception, bar, swimming pool and lots of staff. This hotel has none of these, yet manages to be really comfortable and welcoming. Everything is rather dusty with sand, but very clean. The rooms are fitted into the walls of the 12th century adobe citadel, and are consequently scattered about. I eventually found many of them, but not all. Breakfast is almost al fresco, fairly basic, but more than adequate.
This is the first hotel where donkeys have brayed nearly all night, and the muezzin gives you an early morning call as well. An experience to be savoured. We had stayed in the Winter Palace Luxor and the Cecil in Alexandria a few days before this, and I can say that this hotel is a million miles away, but just as enjoyable. We loved it.

Three generations (my dad, 67 yo, me 40 yo and my son 5 yo) went to Siwa and stayed at Albabenshal and all three of us LOVED it. Spatious and yet cozy rooms, unique atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming staff. Great location in central Siwa. Restaurant with excellent food (more than one vegetarian alternative) and a wonderful rooftop view over the city. The hotel breakfast was one of the best we've had. Good and secure hotel for the five year old. A small shop in the reception area sells local produced food like sweet olive jam. I recommend this hotel for everyone.

One of the most beautiful eco-hotels in Siwa oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt is on the 'main' town square. The hotel is set at the foot of Old Shali fortress, built off the ruins of Old Shali citadel which was destroyed by three days of rain in 1926, built of traditional materials in sympathy with its surroundings. The sculptured clay structure seems to embrace you when you enter and has a warmth and feel that is peaceful and relaxing. (the hotel is not for people who need all the modern conveniences). We spent 7 nights at the end of January 2012 at this amazing hotel in Siwa. Clean and very comfortable. Charming. Considering the tiny place that Siwa is, this hotel is a surprising find a Unique eco-hotel for Unique people.
Breakfast just perfect, fruit salad, eggs, fresh bread, fresh farmer's cheese, falafel, fresh lemon juice, fresh tea, homemade fig, homemade dates jam and the best homemade olive jam, served on the terace with a gorgeous view of the old, surreal Shali town or on Salama’s Café! Service fantastic, the staff could not be more accommodating, we felt that the hotel was really our home! Salama’s Café, part of the hotel, serves delicious food that is also inexpensive. We didn’t eat anywhere else. There is free wi-fi in the restaurant.
So thank you everyone at Albabenshal, Salama, Hemaed, Mohamed and anyone I have missed, you gave me the experience of a lifetime. I hope to see you soon, and also take a longer trip into the desert. Insha Allah !!!
Best regards Leon, Nikos & Eleni from Greece.

Booked my stay on 8/12 based on the hotel policy stating that pets are allowed.A week before check in decided to double check with the hotel knowing that anything could happen with a 3 star hotel. And it did. I was informed that the hotel is fully booked, hence, pets aren’t allowed. Having explained that they are rejecting me a week before my check in and that there is no way I could find either a boarding for dogs or another hotel on such short notice, the hotel manager responded that they are fully booked and my cancellation would not really affect them. Ruined Christmas vacation and complete loss of faith in hospitality service in Siwa. Totally unprofessional!

I'm so glad I ended up here, it's a lovely place to spend a few days in Siwa with a very warm welcome from Salama and his staff. Firstly, I had no idea what kind of place it was and was stunned when I arrived. It is built in the traditional ancient Siwan material of a mixture of sand and salt and blends in perfectly with the old citadel that it's a part of. It really is like staying in an ancient Siwan abode, but then you see the styling of the interiors - very chic, and worthy of some glossy magazine :) The light fittings are made from salt.
The only criticism I would make is that they hadn't paid their WiFi bill, so no internet connection, but I'm sure they will sort that out (but let me know).
After some disappointing stays at other hotels in Egypt, breakfast was another surprise; it is delicious. Freshly cooked omelette and Egyptian falafel, accompanied with goat cheese and flatbread, fresh tomatoe and fig jam. Great start to the day!
It is located in the middle of town so easy walking or ride to the local sights. They arranged a desert trip which was brilliant (better if you can share the cost).
All in all, I can't recommend this place enough, and excellent value. I'm really tempted to return to Siwa. Enjoy.
