Just a few minutes’ walk from downtown Siwa along a palm-covered dirt road, the 16-room Shali Lodge is centrally located but also peacefully set apart. After a day full of exploring ruins, tasting dates and swimming in freshwater springs, Shali Lodge welcomes travelers to the natural comforts of Siwan hospitality: simple yet elegant rooms furnished with palm frond chairs, tables and beds complemented with colorful Bedouin carpets.Shali Lodge claims one of the few highly regarded restaurants in Siwa. Your dining settings range from the terrace, shaded by date-palms that sprout through the floor to a downstairs den, strewn with cushions and warmed on crisp nights by a wood-burning fire. Savor a date omelet, lamb casserole or a steaming bowl of vegetarian tajin, each flavored with fresh herbs of the oasis.Your stay at Shali Lodge, helps preserve the Siwan oasis’ natural resources and benefits the local community. The authentic construction of Shali Lodge using kershef, a mixture of sun-dried salt, mud and sand that naturally insulates against the summer heat, reduces the use of non-renewable energy and has helped revive a dying Siwan craft. Moreover, the continued success of Shali Lodge generates a range of needed employment opportunities for the local community without overrunning the area with the one-size-fits-all development. Be one with your surroundings and let us take care of the rest.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I spent one night, two days at Shali lodge whilst in Siwa. It was a unique little spot, very peaceful and tranquil, the rooms were so nice and gave you a real feel of life in Siwa. The staff working there were nothing short of lovely, welcoming, sweet and friendly and always there to chat to. I locked my keys in my case one day, and one of the staff members went out of there way to open it and fix it. They serve a lovely breakfast in the morning with eggs, soup, bread and delicious fresh herbal teas! The location was perfect right in the Centre of town and near to all the attractions and sites. I would highly recommend this a place to relax and stay whilst in Siwa, I wish I could have stayed longer!

seriously one of the best tasting meals I have ever had. lentils with pomegranate syrup, rice and chicken with dried fruit, a divine baked eggplant and the lemongrass tea that Siwa is known for. We had booked and had a private dining area and it was wonderful.

Siwa lodge is atmospheric. Built in traditional style, as were the fittings and furniture. Breakfast was more than adequate. In the evenings we dinned out. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Siwa Lodge given its remote location. The litmus tests of any place we stay is would we go there again and would we recommend it to friends. We'd certainly stay there again and would not hesitate to recommend to friends so long as they were able to cope with the inevitable dust that is inescapable in the desert.

It cost me about 150ringgit per night. But it is worth more. I think the prices have dropped since the siwa tourism has suffered these past few years. The hotel is made of the clays of the oasis and surrounded by desert palm trees.. The room was decent and the clay made it cool at night. I just loved the ambience. You can bargain with the owner to arrange a day to visit the sites in siwa including a 4 wheel drive tour to the dunes of the sahara. The owner gave a simple breakfast of bread and jam when he sent me off. There is also a welcome tea drink... Meals can be prepared ...

Most impressive is the building style for the place which gives u a touch of local building style. Very impressed by how the building made the rooms very warm without any heat Very conveniently located next to city center yet far from noise Very friendly staff and very nice oriental breakfast Internet only found in entrance of hotel which is a very small room so almost unusable- should be moved to the rooms to be used and it is really easy to do this Rooms are generally very spacious with exceptions Generally try to get a room in the upper floor as they are lot spacier and have more light
