This hotel was a great first visit to Ayutthaya. Our room (we had booked a deluxe room which is larger) was very big, and more than enough room for us and our 2 young children (age 1 and 3 years of age). We had a nice leather couch sitting area, which was big enough to use as a bed for the children at night so they did not need to be in our bed. Our bed was so huge that they could have slept in it with us !! It was very large. The room had nice tiled floor for half the room, the other half was wooden floor. We had a very large TV. The bedroom was also very light with two sets of nice big windows. There was a fridge in the room, it only had complimentary waters in it. There was also no room-service option for food in the room. Therefore if you wanted hotel food or drink in the room all you had was water in the room. But if you are the sort of person who likes to use the fridge for your own drinks and food to economise a bit then its great. In terms of negatives concerning the room, there was a rather cheap looking shower curtain with mould along the bottom of it, and a stain on the ceiling around where the air conditioning machine was. But overall the room and bedding was clean and comfortable mostly. The onsite restaurant is very good value. We had a meal for 2 adults and 2 children with drinks for 350 Baht, at the time of writing there were meals available starting at 70 Baht for fried rice with various accompaniments, and for 120 Baht you could get various types of seafood salads. The menu at the hotel was very extensive, a huge amount of choice. Also, the prices in the menu were what-you-see-is-what-you-pay as at the time of writing there were no service charges or taxes added onto the bill at the end, you only tip if you want to what you would like to add on. Breakfast was included in our Agoda booking, and was fantastic, a lot of choice, hot food, cereals, a wide variety of fruit and salad and several choices of fresh juices. Breakfast was available from 6am until 10am. The swimming pool and fitness centre had rather strange morning hours, not opening officially until 9am, although some people seemed to be using them before that. In the night the swimming pool and fitness centre was available until late until 9pm. The swimming pool is simply wonderful - it is very very large, and was nice and clean, and in the sun for nearly the whole day. In terms of location, this hotel is rather far away from the main Ayutthaya island where most of the temples and tourism is. It is not a river location, there are other hotels in Ayutthaya which have nicer more scenic location by the river/main tourism area. You have to get tuktuk/taxi to get to most locations. When we arrived at the hotel and upon check out also, we noticed that the receptionists we talked to did not seem to speak any English, and during our entire 2night weekend stay we did not notice any English speaking people at the hotel. It seems that it is used more by local people or at least that appeared to be the situation the weekend that we stayed. On our first day at the hotel we asked a man at a desk which appeared to be a tour-arranging desk if we could take a tour of the temples and he arranged this for us. For 700 Baht on the day we went, we had a river tour of the full distance around Ayutthaya island for the four of us (including the two little children and two adults) and we were able to see many of the temples. The tour desk man also arranged for a TukTuk (their type of local open taxi) to collect us from the hotel direct and take us directly to the boat. TukTuk's cost 100 Baht each way to the boat and back, and so the tour in total cost us 900Baht but we felt it well worth it as it was a way of combining seeing many of the temples with a boat ride also. We were very lucky on our day because although the boat had a capacity of about 20 or 30 people our family were the only people on the boat. When we left the hotel and checked out (check out time was a generous late 12pm mid-day) we asked a manager for train times, and he asked in Thai his receptionist if she knew. She did not know the train times, and we were told to check them out for ourselves when we get to the station. This was fair enough, as the trains are fairly regular during the middle of the day. However, when we asked for a TukTuk to take us to the station, the manager again asked his receptionist if she could arrange this for us, but after debating with her in Thai we were told in English by the manager to go out to the main street and find a tuk tuk for ourselves, which was rather disappointing as there were not many around in the area and we could have been facing a long wait. However, the situation was saved by us meeting the Tour desk man who we had help with before arranging the river cruise, and he phoned for a Tuk Tuk for us and told us one would arrive to take us to the station in 10 minutes, and he invited us to come back into the hotel (we were standing outside) as it was very hot. This man was fantastic. He was the same man who had taken us and our luggage to our room when we first arrived, the man who arranged the tuk tuks and river tour for us, and the same man who helped us on our departure to get transport, he was also the only regular member of staff we noticed that spoke confident English. On Saturday night there was a huge evening/night market very near to the hotel which we walked to. Prices appeared to be much cheaper than the famous touristy Chatuchak market in Bangkok, more local prices, and lots and lots of clothes shoes and household things available. I don't know if this market is running every Saturday, but if interested you could check with the hotel. The hotel has a shop within two minutes walk where you can buy food and drinks. There are also several bars very close by also.

Overall, if you want good value-for-money and a nice big room with huge very large swimming pool and good value restaurant then this is a good hotel for you. Also, if you like a hotel which is not too many Western tourists, and more of an Asian feel, then this be a good place also. I think one of the reasons we did not notice any English speaking guests is because the hotel is a fair distance (about 10 minutes by Tuk Tuk motorised taxi) from the main island which is the main touristy area. But if you don't mind a journey to get there, and you want good value for money for a large room and if a big swimming pool is important to you then this hotel is a good choice. At the time I booked this hotel, it was a choice between this and the Krungsri River Hotel. The Krungsri river hotel does have a nicer location in my opinion as it is on the river and nearer to the train station and Ayutthaya main island. However, despite Agoda having a half price sale on the Krungsri river hotel, we still at the time of our booking managed to get a cheaper room at the Grand Hotel, and as it was a deluxe room with couch and sitting area we got a bigger room for less money and with a larger swimming pool, so I consider the Grand Hotel very good value for money.

I wish I knew the name of the man who helped us by taking us to our room on arrival, booking our river tour and arranging our tuktuk-taxi for us on departure, as he was very helpful and deserves special praise for his confident use of English and kind helpfulness. Without him I think communication might have been difficult at this hotel due to the lack of English. Just as an additional point concerning this - the television in the room although large did not have any English channels! But I forgive this and am not annoyed as I find it understandable due to the fact the hotel does not have many English speaking guests, but if English TV is important for you then this might not be the place to go, though in my opinion whilst on holiday enjoy what is different such as the temples, night market, swimming pool etc rather than watch TV anyway!! The room had a nice choice of Bath and Shower with very nice hot water so that rather made up for it, along with the massive comfortable bed. By the way, the bed was fairly soft, not rock hard like some beds.

Overall a good hotel, and I did not notice any of the problems of older horror reviews on Tripadvisor. For example, in older reviews some people had been complaining of dirty carpets, but the room we had was with tiled and wooden floor with nice tiled corridor outside it which looked modern (this despite the fact we were in the old original wing of the hotel) perhaps some rooms are different from others, or perhaps the hotel has been modernising his rooms.

One other last point to mention, is that the hotel (at least the original old wing which we stayed in) could do with a coat of paint soon!! Whilst swimming in the lovely large swimming pool, when you look up at the hotel it looks rather grey with black streaks and looks rather unattractive like some concrete military block or school rather than a hotel!! I think the hotel was originally white but has now faded a lot on the outside exterior. But the room itself where we stayed was very large bright and attractive inside with lots of nice wooden cabinets and cupboards as well as wardrobe with slippers and bath robes in it, and the hotel does appear to be trying to offer nice facilities!!

We stayed here for a couple of days and enjoyed our trip to this ancient city. The hotels is conveniently located that we can get to anywhere. The room was large but not kept vey clean especially the bath room that we saw some mole between the tiles. The housekeeping could do a better job.

The hot water was out of order, they did not do a daily clean of our room so we had rubbish piled up in our room bins and when we returned from a tiring full day of exploring, the room was as we had left it. Expected a buffet breakfast like all hotels do but instead was asked to choose from a couple of options at check in, so at breakfast, depending on your choice made at check in,they have either fried eggs or soup, plus toast ready to go as soon as you arrive. Eggs stone cold. Been travelling throughout Southeast Asia for months and this has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Will not be returning to this hotel.

Dear reader. I decided to spend the weekend in this fine town and to my dismay found myself in this hotel. This is a large hotel on the outskirts of town. The car park was full on arrival with a Pickup convention. There was not a single light on in the foyer of the hotel which made it feel like a warehouse after dark. We were not shown up to our room just given directions. The room was last decorated sometime in the 70's and looked as if a corpse had died in the room and left to decompose on the carpet. There large water stains on the walls and the curtains were torn and dirty as well as falling off the decrepit rail. Dear reader....we left and found another hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip over to Thailand
Paid for a "Deluxe" room, which may well have been modern in the 1970s, All furniture poorly fitted and falling apart, A/C had two levels, Non Existent or Arctic, Windows in serious need of either cleaning or re-tinting as you really could not see out of the room
Breakfast was basic, mixture of local and western,
Now the one highlight was the swimming pool, excellent in size and cleanliness, however it goes downhill from there, Despite temperatures in excess of 47 degrees when we were there, The hotel does not provide Sun Parasols for shade, Towels to use, Nor do they provide anywhere to purchase water or a snack, so basically it is swim or roast
All in all, VERY, VERY Disappointing, and we certainly will not be back

I booked into this hotel for 4 nights and left after just 2. Staff are grumpy on the reception desk and the rooms are old and musty smelling. Bed is 2 singles pushed together which is not comfortable at all. Bedding is old as are the towels.

The service in the dining room is so slow and when the food does arrive it is not good. Breakfast is buffet style and if you want eggs you can find them stuck to the bottom of the metal container where they will have been for some time so are nice and cold.

Ask for an omelette and at first they will say "omelette not available" however if you ask a couple of times they will serve you ...........and charge extra !!

The hotel is located in the red light district with dirty bars selling warm beer at high prices. I could go on but I think it best if I just say "keep away from this hotel" it really is rubbish.

Clean and ok but creepy. Really needed to decoration update. Location is a bit outskirt and I found it a bit difficult to get a taxi. Pool area is a huge if you like swimming. There is also karaoke available in the hotels privaterooms (?)!
Breakfast was not good and they tried to charge me for a second cup of coffee, even I had already paid the breakfast.
Would not go there again.

Its great for people who loves to party and do not really care about sleep well. Due to the hotel its right next to the bar street. you could not really sleep till the bar close.

"Ask for a quiet room, we were on floor 5 of 6 floors, and we had a room at the back of the hotel with a pool view rather than a room at the front which would have had road view and possibly more road noise. The room was generally very quiet, maybe because of being high up, and only noise noticed was some background noise from the night market Saturday night, but still slept fine. We looked inside some rooms that were not deluxe, and obviously they are cheaper as do not have a couch/lounge area, but I would really recommend taking a deluxe room with couch lounge area as it makes for a very nice room, where you almost feel like you have two rooms in one, a lounge area and then the bed area itself."
