Grungy old hotel. Probably once was nice but has been ‘let go’ as often happens in the hotel trade. Now it is probably best suited to be rented by the hour.

I found this hotel on this website. No pictures, but the price was very good. So I took a chance, that I didnt regret. The room was clean, nothing exciting, but everything was fine. We had the do not disturbed sign hanging at the door, so they couldnt clean the room a day. Well they left us fresh towels, soap, paper and water. The brakfast waas included and it was also good. The only problem is the location, but you can easily take a tuk tuk.

The hotel was recommended at the railway station by people saying that they worked for the Tourist Office. It was probably not completely true.

The staff was not very friendly, the room did not look very tidy, the bathroom was basic, the hotel did not offer breakfast.

And it was not even cheap!

While visiting the historical sites, I saw many other places, from guesthouses to hotel, which should have been a better choice.

My husband and I stayed at the Ayutthaya Thanee Hotel for 2 nights last December. The hotel itself was spotless, the rooms clean and bright and it was in a fairly decent location – close to the night market and set amidst residential houses and ancient wats. We booked it ahead of time as we were told that things book up quickly at that time of year. The price was middle of the road and it had a full gym which really appealed to us.

Our stay here, however, was a disaster.

None of the staff at the hotel spoke a word of English. They were unable to identify the location of their hotel on a map, or even tell us which direction North/South was. We were able to orient ourselves by setting out on foot and comparing landmarks to our map, but this caused us much grief at first because we really had no idea where we were for the better part of a day.

The worst experience with this hotel however, had to do with the gym - the gym that they openly promote on their flyers and website. When we arrived, we asked four people (the fourth was able to understand our exercise pantomime) where the gym was and finally we were taken to the top level of the hotel and shown it. The lights were off in this part of the hotel, so the staff person turned them all on for us and gave us a very brief tour - brand new exercise machines and very nicely appointed his and hers changerooms/washrooms. The next day we went to the gym for a workout. There were two young local teens working out at the time (presumably children of the staff?). After all of 5 minutes on the treadmill, a staff person came up to us and asked for a sum of money for use of the gym. I can't recall the figure, but it was quite a small amount. We refused to pay on principle alone and were promptly escorted out of the gym. As it seemed to be the manager who had us leave the gym, there wasn't anyone we could lodge a complaint with. I have stayed in all manner of hotels on four continents, from the mom and pop motel to the Four Seasons, and never had I encountered a hotel where there was a fee for gym use. What irked us the most was the manner in which they chose to eject us from the gym in from of other guests. This, I thought, was a universal hospitality no-no.

Upon checkout they were not able/willing to assist us with getting a taxi or a tuk-tuk – again mainly due to the language barrier. On our departure we were forced to hoof it out to the main street to flag one down (luckily we had backpacks and not luggage).

The town of Ayutthaya was a fabulous experience, but the Ayutthaya Thanee Hotel was not.

We stayed at this "hotel" last week. It is easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed in anywhere.

The foyer is totally lacking in any form of air conditioning/fan. Look to your left and you will see a gym which might, on the face of it, give the impression of an hotel with decent amenities. It is impossible to sit in the foyer area as it is like a sauna. The Internet is spasmodic during the day and non-existent in the evenings. The quaint lift runs on the exterior wall but , like the lounge, has no form of cooling/ventilation so it is like stepping into an oven. The carpet on the lift floor must surely be the most worn on Planet Earth.

There is complimentary coffee in the morning which is served by a surly old woman. This hotel was clearly of a good standard but has been allowed to decline and it looks like there has been no expenditure on upkeep for many years.

I stayed there because my wife wanted to stay near the night market by the river and she had chosen it herself.

I bitterly regret not having read the reviews others had written about this place. Pleases do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else. This place is absolutely dreadful.

Too many insect inside room. Air condition smells not so good. It's near to relics, but there are only shops. Restaurants are too far. But what to expect at these prices. Stuff at this hotel is pleasant, but only with very basic english.

Stay away from this place! Spiders & cockroaches in the room and in the bathroom, no hot water, no wifi, stains on carpet, on walls, on the bed headboard, holes in the bed sheets... you need to know anything else?

Place is very old and needs to be updated or refurbished. Must have your own transport to move around town . Not enough signages to locate the hotel as the entrance is a very small alley . Many mosquitoes at the lobby and common areas .
