Although we had liked the other one we stayed in for a night prior to moving on down to Hua Hin, the Malkaew that we stayed at upon our return was definitely superior and the best option in town. The pools were luxurious as were the cabanas to stay in. Front Desk staff were also lovely.

If you want to visit Damnoen Saduak's Floating Market, this hotel is probably one of the best options, as the floating market is just a 7 minutes walk from the hotel's door.
We stayed here in order to be able to be at the market by 7:00 AM before tourist hordes arrive from Bangkok by 09:00 AM. Another good thing was that the hotel booked for us a boat that picked us up at the hotel, as it has a pier in a canal that is connected to the canals where the floating market takes place. So you can either walk to the floating market or hire a boat (I definitively recommend the boat ride, as you can see much more than on foot).
With reference to the hotel, the staff is very nice and very helpful (they also booked for us a van to return to Bangkok). Rooms are distributed along a 2 levels modern and new building with covered hallways that are also open to the outside. So the whole atmosphere is very "tropical" and exotic.
The room we had was very large, very clean and comfortable. It had air-conditioning, a small refrigerator, a normal tv, a desk and a chair, a space between the room and the bathroom where there was a wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom (see attached pictures).
The hotel has also a great restaurant where they serve a very complete buffet breakfast (we also had dinner and the food and the price was very good). Additionally the hotel has a very nice swimming pool, which is perfect to fight the heat. It is then obvious that I will stay here again if I have the opportunity to come back to Damnoen Saduak.

Booked a pond-side one bedroom "villa" through Agoda for $US100 a night including Agoda fees etc, including buffet breakfast. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and concerned that you've had a good time. Very nice room, fantastic bed (if you like a hard mattress like I do) and linen. The shower is designed in a garden setting. Good meals at the restaurant and two lap-pools on site. Free Wifi available but a bit a bit on-and-off. There's construction going on nearby but it's the noise isn't overwhelming. The location is excellent, very close to the main pier for the floating market. The resort wasn't busy which was a surprise given the long weekend. We arrived on a Thursday midday and used the resort's free bikes to explore the lanes in the village outskirts - really recommend this as a late afternoon activity but beware of dogs snapping at your heels. Those mutts look so placid sleeping in the midday heat but once they start gathering in a pack as the evening cools some of them get a little aggro. We hired a small boat via the hotel to take us to the floating market (400 baht for @ 2 hours not including tip). Leaving at 8am from the resort's own pier we mingled with dozens of boats paddled by vendors and more motorised longboats full of tourists. Still it was worth it. We hired a longboat for a return trip down the river to Bang Noi to see more of the area - at 900 baht for 2 and an hour's trip it was probably expensive but again, worth it and the further we went, the fewer the other tourists. Friday evening was spent at Amphara night market (Fri, Sat, Sun from midday to 8am). A 15 min tuktuk trip from the resort (150 baht one way - the tuktuk driver will come back to get you). A great night out - vibrant, fantastic food, and an ecclectic mix of stall. Mostly Thai tourists, and the option of taking a boat ride to see fireflies. We travelled to and from Damnoen Saduak and the new Southern Bus Terminal on an air con bus (75 baht each) - 1.5 to 2 hour trip. The buses leave every 20 to 40 minutes and you buy the tickets on board rather than at the ticket booths in the terminal.

I have stayed at Maikaew at least 10 times now since I visit Damnoen Saduak quite often. The hotel and staff are always great. They speak good English and are helpful. I highly recommend the villas. They are good sized with a big inside/outside shower (there's wire mesh to keep out the bugs) and very comfy bed. I've seen a couple of other places, but this is easily the best.

There's an outdoor pool, but I've never been. Only downside is the breakfast which is only average, with limited mostly western food.

The hotel is near the canals and within easy walking distance of the floating market. No noise in the room from the long-tail boats, except in the bathroom since its somewhat open. I also recommend a small restaurant to the right from the hotel (probably 5 minutes walk). Good for somtam and fried fish (it's across from a car repair place). I think it is only open in daytime.

Hotel is near to floating market in Damon Saduak. I wanted to visit the market early with out early morning traveling from Bangkok. I'm glad that i have booked this hotel. this was the best hotel I stood in my entire trip in Thailand when compare all. Rooms are anomalously big. Had all the basic facilities.

It is really near to the floating market and hotel will arrange you a boad to go. it is better to get the boat arranged through hotel without wasting time bargaining rates with thais.

The place is very close to Damneon Saduak floating market. I stayed in a villa. Each of which is separated from others. The place is surrounded by plants and has a swamp in the middle. So, the atmosphere is already there. Staffs are very kind and helpful. The place also offers a massage service and coffee shop. In case that you might be bored at night, there are numbers of DVDs are available for borrowing. ps. saw a pony in the garden :D

I'm sure the place is nice. However I tried to cancel my reservation weeks ahead they wouldn't do it. They kept saying go to the website and click cancel reservation. That button doesn't exist! I tried multiple times telling them, I even called and was nice. When I talk to a human at the front desk they still said cancel online. Just felt like laziness or a scam. Ridiculous! So you won't get your money back if you change your mind here. Personally any where that acts that way doesn't deserve buisness. Very disappointing. The floating market next to this place is suppose to be more fake anyway. Go to Amphawa instead, way better market and the hotels are straight with you.

We are in the resort Maikaew Damnoen for relaxing and pleasure. I would recommand this resort when you like a beatiful place, nice people, good food! There are opportunities to take a boot from the resort to the great floating market. We have taken a taxi for only E25,00 from Bangkok to this great place in only 75 minutes. There are several swimming pools. You have to go!!!!

We stayed at the Villa room the expensive budget.
from 7am on Saturday cars engines very loud probably the boat from the canal while the opposite side building construction hammers and drills.
When we booked the room no one mentioned the situation.
If u wish to sleep well while u traveling do not come here!
Big shame to charge that much in such a noisy condition!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night on our way from Bangkok to Phuket. The hotel is an ideal place to stop if you want to visit the Floating Market as the pier with a boat that can take you there is about 50 m from the reception.

The hotel is situated in a lovely and very well maintained garden. We stayed in a deluxe room, which was quite spacious and very clean. It had everything you need to feel comfortable including a small fridge, a TV and free Wi-Fi (I think there was even a hairdryer). I am not sure if the more expensive rooms in their villages are worth the extra money.

There are two swimming pools to choose from and I’d recommend taking a Thai massage session which is excellent there. The food in the restaurant is very good.
I should also mention that the staff is very polite and helpful. Overall, we’ve been very pleased with our stay and, in the hindsight, if we were to do the same trip again, we’d stayed there again.

Not many most places close late afternoon when the day trippers leave. The hotel has a great restaurant and a separate coffee shop.

Hello, welcome to Thailand. Your understanding is correct. Damnoen Saduak floating market is open every day (06:30 to 12:00). But on the weekday, the amount of boat or shop which open, are less than on the weekend. Sp, I recommend you to visit Damnoen Saduak floating market on the weekend. It's upon your travel schedule. If you need more information, please let me know
