We were at this place for the 3rd time and as always it was a great stay with friends. Right on the beach and breezy bungalows.
Great food and valueable drinks provided. Thanks to Kun, Lab and Bao for everything. See you soon my friends...

We stayed at Fisherman's bungalows for 5 days at the end of our 3 week holiday in Thailand. I have to say that the bungalow was our favourite out of all the places we stayed, and the price very good value. We stayed in bungalow 5 (Moray) which was towards the back of the garden, but nevertheless private and very cosy. It was the nicest bungalow we stayed in for that price range - great rustic outdoor bathroom, We loved the fact that we could shower and see the palm tree tops at the same time! There's lots of storage space (hooks, racks etc), and a lovely big mosquito net hanging on a frame over the bed (not those horrible raggedy rags you get in some bungalows that are so claustraphobic) , so romantic! It is really quiet at that end of Khlong Khong beach, yet still only a stone's throw away from the other restaurants and bars on the beach. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, we felt like part of their extended family. Our 2 year old daughter loved it there, and was treated so well - they put on cartoons for her to watch in the evenings, played with her and fed her bananas! I would thoroughly recommend this resort to people looking for a quiet, chilled and rustic location.

+1
I have literally travelled the world from adventures in true backpacker style as well as luxury business travel...but Fisherman's is one place that seems to keep calling me back. This is the 4th time i've been to Fisherman's and once again the experience was just as fab as the first time I ever went there. I've been with friends before and also just escaped London in the winter and jetted off on my own.... well you're never really on your own as you meet great people and more often than not see a familiar face from past trips...... it seems like everyone returns at some point!
There's allot I could write but the best things are..... gorgeous friendly staff who can be as much a part of your trip as you want them to be - they are really good at knowing when you want a chat or are just as happy being totally in the background when you're happy with your own company....either way they really make this place and are the biggest reason so many people go back. The service is great and they can help you organise anything during your stay.
The rooms are excellent.... as long as you're not expecting soul less 5 star luxury.... this place is what i'd call 'boutique back-packing'. The outdoor bathrooms are one of the best features... the rooms are spotless and have real characture.
The beach is a great stretch....ideal for a run at sun-rise or sun-set. The tides go in and out so some days you can't swim for a couple of hours..... but it soon comes back in so it's not a huge issue.
Sun-downers and sunsets are the best time of day....they have a great chill-out area where you can sip your gin and tonics and every single evening the sunsets are truely amazing. You never have to wait long before someone says... what would you like a drink...! and they play really cool 'chill-out' tunes which is a nice touch.
The food is great.... the seafood bbq which you can order in advance is a great thing to do if you're in a group.
What I love especially is the kind of people that this place seems to attract.... very cool, very chilled and lot's of fun.
I'm homesick for Fisherman's now i'm back in the grey rain of London! can't wait to go back

Stayed for 5 nights and thought it was a great property with a simple and lovely style to it. The grounds look great, the bungalows are nice with fun bathrooms and the guys who run the place are extremely friendly. The big downside to this otherwise outstanding spot is that the bar next door has loud live outdoor music until very late at night. Music blasts from about 10pm to 2-3am or later every night. If you can handle the noise, Fisherman's couldn't really be any better. But if not, stay away.

The staff is awesome, the bungallows are great, the food is one of the best in the island.... but the location is horrible.
It is 2am while I am writting this review and we can not sleep because there is a huge party in the bar next door (which happens every saturday night) and the music is so loud that the bass is shacking our bed. As you can understand, it is not the most relaxing experience of my live.
The beach is one of the worst of Kho Lanta, full of litter. There are literally thousands of plastic bottles, bags, cans, glass, etc... And they do not clean it, not even the part in front of their bungallows, contrarely to what I have read in other reviews. A beach in which I can not swim comfortably because of all the plastic is not a good beach, even if the sunset is great.

We spent 4 nights in fishermans cottage in February 2011. The cottages are nice if you like concrete. There is nothing else inside than a bed, a fan and an outdoorbathroom, but no possibility to store your luggage, only on the floor. The ants were happy. The price was 1200 TBT for the room number 2. In an other recommendations I read, that the price for a beachfrontbungalow was 900 TBT in January 2010. The bungalow is definitively overpriced. The view from our bungalow was right to the kitchen, to the toilet and to the family-TV, which ran the whole day. Breakfast was not included but they promised us, that there is a roomservice every day. In fact there was no service, as we asked for a new towel, we got some but reluctantly. Same with the toiletpaper. As my wife began to clean up the room, the 4 guys (there is obviously no woman in the resort) watched her, but there was no reaction to help her. They continued to look TV. There were a lot of bugs and spiders in the room, as I asked for an insectspray, the can was empty and I had to buy a new one in the seven11. I cannot agree to the other recommendations the fishermans cottage ist realy poor. Mr. Kun there is a lot to do!

Pros
• Kun and Lap were very accommodating and work very hard to help plan events
• Kun pays for excursions he coordinates for you then adds it to the check at discharge, wonderful to have a single bill at the end if the trip rather than lots of little expenses throughout the trip
• Kun arranged for transport to and from Krabi-no hassle
• Food was really good, try the No Name!
• Kun is Eco focused, he will loan you a canvas bag for your stay to reduce plastic bags, also he doesn’t use plastic straws at the bar (if you really need a straw, he has bamboo straws for 40 baht that you can reuse…consider bringing these home as eco friendly-easy to pack souvenirs)
• Really good use of space in the fun funky concrete bungalows, the shelf behind the bed and along one side was great for storing stuff. There are outlets at either side of the head of the bed, great to plug in a laptop a with a USB fan that you can take into the mosquito netting with you.
• Huge (bigger than king sized) bed.
• Mosquito net in great condition (remember to lower it in the afternoon though, otherwise you trap the buggies in with you)
Cons
• No air-conditioning, nights are hot. They provide a fan, but the mosquito netting blocks some of the wind. If you are from a cooler area or sleep hot this may be a show stopper for you.
• No hot water heater. Expect cold showers.
• No drinking water provided. This is the only hotel out of the 13 we’ve stayed at in Thailand that doesn’t provide daily drinking water. Kun is worried about eco issues, but by not providing water, we had to buy bottled water…a 5 gallon jug of drinking water that we can use to fill our water bottles would have been greatly appreciated
• No maid service (none). Really not too big a deal except for the septic issue. If you expect me to throw my used toilet paper away rather than in the toilet, occasional removal of the garbage next to the toilet would be greatly appreciated.
• Sparse linens. 1 flat sheet, 2 towels, and pillowcases were all that are offered. No hand towel, no rag, no other bed linens. With no maid service they get pretty stinky…we did figure out that any of the guys will exchange them if you ask (they will also take a full garbage bag).
• No soap (or any other toiletries) provided.
• Lap is a smoker and thinks nothing of lighting up and sitting down to visit. Sweet guy, but cigarette smoke is awful.
• Bugs in the bungalow...bungalows open at the top & bathroom mean bugs get in (not just mosquitoes, but ridiculously large spiders and centipedes.
Considerations
• Bring (or buy) beach towels…you only get 2 towels for your bungalow so you won’t have anything for the beach.
• Bring flashlights!!!!! Bugs WILL get in. Had several centipedes and one monster spider in the room…don’t want to step on that stuff bare footed in the dark!!!
• Consider small USB fans with long enough cords that you can bring into the mosquito net with you.
• ALL beds in Thailand are hard as rocks. If you have a bad back, consider bringing a camp mattress to soften beds.
• You might think closer to the beach is better, but closer to the beach means closer to the bar. Bar usually closes around 11:00, so if you want to go to bed before that, you might experience some loud bar revelry that keeps you awake.
Extra Info:
• The 7-11 close to the hotel has great coffee and espresso drinks at a fraction of the cost of anywhere along the beach.
• Amorn at Summer Leaf Lanta Massage (across from 7-11) is a FABULOUS massage therapist, the best out of all the massages I got in Thailand, give her a try. Thai oil was well worth the $$...and consider a 90 minute rather than 60...you will be glad you did!

Fisherman's Cottage Resort had to move to a different area which was only about 500 meters further than the old place but they still had to start all over again and had to build everything like the cottages, the garden, the restaurant, the watersystem, you name it, so we did not know what to expect exactly because we arrived only a month after the reopening but i'm happy to say we were pleasantly suprised how they managed to build everything up in such a short time and still kept that same comfortable atmosphere which we liked so much about the old place before.
The garden is a bit smaller but we didn't miss it because all the activities like football and frisbeeing now take place in front of the chillplatform at the beach. There are no small bamboo huts anymore, all cottages are spacious now and have they're own open air garden shower which gives a real feeling of freedom when you use it. The kitchen staff is the same so the food is still fingerlicking good and we liked the new restaurant more than the old one because its now connected to the bar.
We booked a week in front but decided to stay another week which for us is unique because we never stayed as long as that at one place before in the past 25 years so we can only compliment them for that and we will go back for sure!

We stayed at Fisherman's Cottage as a plan B, due to Bee Bee's Bungalows a few doors up being booked out, but it was the best thing that could have happened! Unlike Bee Bee's and Where Else?, the land at Fisherman's Cottage is not filled to the brim with cottages - the 11 they have are nicely spaced out so that while it is still a lovely community feel, it still allows a great amount of privacy.
The cottages themselves are absolutely charming, made of bamboo and concrete and thatched roofs. The outdoor shower was really a highlight, as there are lovely plants surrounding you, and we only really had one cold shower the whole 3 nights we were there as the pipes are warmed by the sun. The beds are perfectly comfortable and we found no problems with bugs or mosquitos.
Kun, Lap, Kun's dad and the other guys who work at Fisherman's are absolutely lovely and warm and set about making friends with everyone who comes to visit - they're genuinely interested in your travels and greet you with huge smiles whenever they see you. Lap is especially fond of climbing up onto the tree-decks to have a drink and a chat!
Kun is a fantastic manager and is extremely helpful in organising anything you might need; from snorkeling trips to having your laundry cleaned.
One thing you must try is the food and drink - it is amazing!
Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to chill out, though those wanting luxury, flush toilets and air con need not apply. This is a place to relax, avoid the rowdy full moon party and cocktail buckets crowd, and to watch the amazing sunsets. Plus, we were fortunate enough to be there when Lucky the resident cat had 3 adorable new kittens!

A group of us stayed on Koh Lanta for the last two weeks of December, 2006 and what an amazing stay. I had only ever been to Bangkok before and couldn't believe how chilled the island is. We split in to two groups with 3 staying at Fisherman's Cottage and 3 staying at Nice 'n Easy (next door).
Fisherman's Cottage is run by Kun, and a couple of other guys who are all extremely friendly, helpful and easy going. Nothing was too much!
The food was amazing, prices were cheap and Kun runs an outdoor club on the premises so there is great music as he's a DJ.
I was one of the one's staying at Nice 'n Easy as wanted airconditioning but spent most of my time at Fisherman's Cottage cos the atmosphere was so good. We met a lot of traveller's over the couple of weeks and all that I spoke to were more than happy with their accommodation and the service they received.
As the cottage's are located on the Western side of the island, we had a perfect view of the sunset each evening and only 10 mins drive from Saladan, the islands centre and where the port is located.
Kun can organise tours / day trips to other islands, snorkelling & diving trips, along with elephant rides and jungle trekking. Nothing was too much and we not only had an amazing experience at Fisherman's Cottage, we made some amazing friends there too.
I personally, will be back and will be recommending Fisherman's Cottage to those who are planning on travelling to Koh Lanta. If you want somewhere chilled with a friendly atmosphere, get in touch with Kun.

Hi Maddie
I stayed at Fisherman's in March.
Kun, the owner, told med they were going to close for some months due to the weather and low tourist season. I don't remember when they open again. Perhaps you could write through Facebook?
Anyway if you haven't visited Fisherman's, please do. It's absolutely fantastic 😃
