We discovered this accommodation by chance and enjoyed three nights in a lovely room. Good value for money, clean and modern, very light and quiet air con. Showers not heated - no need really! We used the restaurant here and at the Dock, fine. They are building their own retaurant ( almost finished) and getting a proper coffee machine.

If you want a quiet beach visited by few others and then mainly locals, away from tours and trappings then this is it. The owners arranged a great day out around the islands with Jaravee Tours, recommended and we were with locals all day, not farangs. They also got us to the airport. Several day trip possibilities from here via long tail boat ferry. There are a couple of bikes to borrow but other than the dock no where really to cycle.
Hiring a motor bike locally is possible. Shop opposite sells beer and are really friendly. Food in the restaurant, and the fruit smoothies were great value and tasty.

Sunsets on the beach - entirely on our own and setting perfectly on the sea.

Located at the end of Yao beach. The beach is quite and home to thousand of small crabs. The best known landmark is the 'shark fin rock'. You may get island hopping tour / long tail boat info from the nearby store (limited english communication, but good enough). 50 minutes from nearest town (Trang).

This review is intended to help Westerners who are not fully familiar with Thailand.

My Thai Partner and I stayed in The Baan Chao Mai Beach Hotel for six night s and I had booked it because we wanted to be somewhere other than the big 'Tourist' Hotels. We have stayed at Koh Samui, Koh Samet, Koh Chang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mai Hong Son, Bangkok etc etc over the last ten years and had many very happy experiences. The Baan Chao Mai is a very pleasant and very unspoilt hotel in a quiet cornier of a long beach, close by the ferry pier to Koh Libong, Koh Mook etc.
The beach is public and goes for about two miles with not another property along the entire length. It is lovely and peaceful and your company, apart from each other, are the zillions of tiny crabs and .... sadly, a lot of the detritus of modern man above the high water line. One cannot blame the hotel for this!
The odd thing about the Baan Chao Mai is that clearly it has evolved from and even smaller start and has a very small, bungalow reception and dining area.... but thye have built at least 14 very modern and very nice modern rooms with all conveniences, air con, fridge, big comfy bed and Wi-Fi and huge full length windows looking through the trees on to the beach. These rooms would stand up well in a MUCH grander hotel.
It is therefore a very nice place to stay if you either want total peace or will hare a motorbike and explore around the area. There is plenty to see, if you take the trouble to find it, and you can take a local 'Long Tailed' boat, with your motorbike, over to Koh Libong... which is stunning.
Breakfast in the hotel is a perfectly adequate meal of some Thai Fruit, coffee etc and a couple of fried eggs with ham, salad, tomato as well as toast, jam, marmalade. This suited us just fine!
The staff are all lovely and Mr Sewit, who was in charge for all of our week was totally friendly and helpful... he hired us the hotel motorbike for Bht250/day, which is very fair.
There is a brilliant Walki9ng Street Market in KanTang which is about 25 kms away and the roads are excellent and the traffic non existent. The little railway station/museum/Love Station in Kantang is worth a visit too.
Down by the pier just past the hotel there is an excellent Seafood Restaurant which is very well worth visiting.
We have had a fine stay here and if you understand what you are coming too, and like the idea of a very quiet but comfortable place, then it fits the bill.
The hotel also arranged collection and pick-up from Trang.

Best thing about this place is the deserted - all to yourself - beach, closely followed by the smiley host, who is incredibly friendly and has a lovely demeanour about him, very genuine. He assisted us with getting to an ATM (for your knowledge there isn't one for about 25km so have enough money on you for when you get there). He can arrange the ferry crossing for you so no need to head to the pier to book your tickets (same price I believe as they sell at the pier itself). The rooms have modern furnishings. Very clean, but remember this area is not developed like other resorts in Thailand so the odd ant or tiny lizard might creep in but it's charm lies in that it's situated in an underdeveloped area. Saying that there is a couple of restaurants and shops to tidy you over. Go and plough your cash into this area rather than throwing it away in Phi Phi and Phuket

After reading other Agoda reviews, we decided to make our way to Trang for the sole purpose of experiencing what some people had touted as the most beautiful rooms they'd ever stayed in. We booked the nicest room left available - the Deluxe Double Room with Beach view. We were so shockingly disappointed with the quality and cleanliness of the room for the price that we contacted the owner and requested a refund for our second night. (With another 4-hour motorbike ride from Krabi Town, this decision was not taken lightly.) The owner was extremely polite and professional and did not hesitate to refund our second night, for which we were very grateful. The room itself was in the worst state of any that we stayed in in Thailand, and it was also the most expensive. The bathroom was covered in mould oddly as were the drapes, the toilet itself was rather stained, and there were cobwebs and dirt all over the walls. The "beach view" was also quite a let down, as the majority of our view was the back of an orange building where we were looking into what appeared to be a kitchen and mattress storage room. The beach itself was fantastic, and we were extremely upset that we were not able to take advantage of the spectacular cliffs and explore the beauty of the remote area, but we could not bring ourselves to stay in that room another night for the price. Also, the adjacent restaurant was charming and had a lovely view, but the food was also quite disappointing and bland, though perhaps if we were there for more than one meal we could have gotten a more well-rounded evaluation of the dishes offered. If opting to stay at this resort, I beg that you keep your expectations low if there are none of the newer, remodeled rooms available upon booking (it seems that people must have been referring to them in their positive reviews).

Our staying at Baan Chao Mai Beach House was way above our expectations. We were lucky to stay in the newest house facing the lovely garden and the sea. The room was very big and equipped with everything we needed: air conditioning, comfy bed, a sofa and a bench for the luggage, instant coffee & tea, 2 bottles of water every day. Also, the bathroom had shower gel and shampoo which we did not expect. It was also nice to relax outside in front of the house or in the tree-swings in the garden. The Beach House does not have a restaurant but they do serve free breakfast. Anyway, there is a small local restaurant right behind the Beach House which is very good and cheap. Everything was closed after 7-8 p.m. so we had to buy anything we needed before that.

The location could not have been better! The beach in front of the garden is humongous and we loved the sunsets every night there. The area is very quiet and great for relaxing. We got a free scooter from the owners and we explored the Hat Chao Mai National Park, the beaches, the forests and we stopped for lunch in Pakmeng. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly and she helped us with information, advice about the area and a map. We found out that during the high season they have long term guests and we understood why. That place is a great place to spend a couple of weeks. We are really thinking about coming back with our friends.

I totally recommend Hat Chao Mai Beach House for those who want to get a sense of South of Thailand.

I spent the time there for 1 night with 3 friends. Unluckily, the rain comes all days. We cannot to do outdoor activities that we have planned. So next day the owner who is a very kind and friendly took us to Amphoe Kantang to see a very amazing city. I recommend this place if you find a chill place.

We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed our time completely we called on way from lipi to koh muk and so glad we did.
From the pier to resort was 800m and the owners offered to collect us.The resort is nice quiet and just off a long stretch of beach no tourists really just locals there are small food stalls on the beach with good food and local prices the owner offered to drive us to the pier if we wanted to try the seafood restaurant for a change we opted to 2 walk the food we had was good and fair price. The resort is purely to relax and chill all you need is a book and cash.My tip would be email the resort the lady speaks good English and was very prompt replying you can arrange pick ups lifts to trang long boats all kinds for we thought good prices the lady saved us 50% on our transfer to koh muk the cold shower was not a problem for us given the quality of accommodation and service we received very relaxing experience

This is a new setup at the end of the Trang mainland beaches located at Hat Yao. There are only 2 hotels in this location which also serves as a pier for the islands of Libong and Lipe . The very Comfortable rooms are sea fronting with great sunsets and vertical cliffs along it's beach. It's quiet and the nearby pier houses some restaurants and minimarts. There is a direct minivan transfer at 100 baht at the Trang minivan bus station at the new station opposite the Robinson superstore .
