I disagree with some of the negative reviews about this hotel, it just depends on your expectations, and this is what to expect! This hotel is all about location, location, location. I arrived by 4wd to beautiful Haad Yuan where you instantly feel like you have taken a step back in time and pace of life. I was so happy to see this beach is still like ''old Thailand''; no big concrete blocks, no power cables (the beach and resorts run on generators), no girly bars, hammocks and bean bags along the beach, wooden hut restaurants/bars and, for the party lovers every Saturday night you can enjoy the now infamous Eden party. If you like quiet, my suggestion is to hit Haad Yuan beach Monday to Friday. The rooms at Pariya are exactly as advertised. Built in the late 90's they are not brand new or hi-tech but super large VERY comfortable rooms with great aircon, huge bathrooms and a deep bath tub! Most of the other accommodation on this beach is backpacker style, so if you like to go off the beaten track but like a room with more of a resort feel this is for you. I believe it's the only accommodation on Haad Yuan with a pool which is super refreshing and relaxing in the heat of the day. Pariya Resort is as eco-friendly as guests will cope with and has a no electricity policy from 1pm to 4pm – and that means no wifi during those times too so you can enjoy an albeit short digital detox. It's good for the soul. If it rains you may not have electricity for a few hours, nor internet as they run on generators. This place would be most enjoyed if you are relatively fit and are able and willing to chill out. The beach is surrounded by lush jungle national park (I saw some monkeys in the wild :-)) on a steep hill, meaning there are steps to walk up to all the rooms and to access the surrounding small bars and restaurants. You also need to be fit enough to climb in and out of a long tail boat to arrive and leave Haad Yuan beach. You need to be comfortable with sharing outdoor space with a few ants, and maybe some mosquitoes. The restaurants may run out of certain food items on the menu which they will need to have delivered by boats. These things are part and parcel of living in an unspoiled natural environment. Getting there.... I first went to Ko Phang Ngan in 1993 so was excited to step onto the boat at Big Buddha Pier, Samui to get away from the madding crowd and head back to where I first fell in love with Thailand. I wondered, in anticipation, if it was still going to be relatively unspoiled or had suffered the effects of mass tourism. I was pleasantly surprised! (The ferry from Big Buddha Pier to Haad Rin, Ko Phang Ngan is about a 50 minute boat trip, Bt200 one way and goes 4 times a day) Getting to Pariya Resort on Haad Yuan once you dock at Haad Rin is an adventure in itself. You have 2 options - a serious off road 4wd through the national park or a private long tail boat around one bay from Haad Rin. (Contact the resort for availability and pricing for 4wd. If the road is bad, or it has been raining, this will NOT be an option) Haad Yuan is a place where you entertain yourself, reading, yoga, meditation, swimming, massage and just relaxing with friends or loved ones. There is no 7/11, just a small local shop that sells essentials. It is peace and tranquility. Be prepared to be mentally transformed if you come here stressed from work and family – you will leave refreshed and rejuvenated if you relax into the old way of life. When my time came to leave, I shared a long tail boat back to Haad Rin Ferry with other guests (currently 300bt each and it leaves when there are 5 people ready to go i.e. the boat is Bt1500) – this is island time so allow plenty of time in your schedule to get back to Haad Rin / Samui. I will be back 100% and have fallen in love with Ko Phang Ngan all over again…
I’d rather sleep on the streets than stay here another night! We cut our trip short as the villa was atrocious. No hot water, they turn power off for 5 hours a day! EVERYDAY. No wifi when we got there and we were NOT notified about this! The breakfast which we had included was rubbish. Nothing on the island to buy except packets of chips and soft drink. Just a heads up also, the people on this island are hippies and we constantly got asked if we wanted to buy acid. So unless that’s your cup of tea, I would not go near this place/island!
N-O hot water in any room (we tried two different ones), terrible service if there’s anyone in the reception, leaking roof in bathroom, mold in the tub, reasonable breakfast, slow staff who’s surprised when people actually come..Basically a backpackers’ hostel disguised as a hotel. Oh don’t let me forget the initiated electricity break they have EACH day between 1pm to 4 pm.. No idea why, they don’t either.. The only good thing going on for them is the AMAZING beach it lays at which is definitely worth a daily visit- save yourself the trouble and don’t stay at this horrifying place..
We were there for 2 nights. Thought of staying more and realized this is not the place for us. Don't be fooled by the extra large rooms. They are very dirty, and has a lot of termites. We paid for sleeping including breakfast. They didn't have any fruits, no dissent coffee, and almost no vegetables. It was very clear that the owner is a reach man that is not around, and no one cares that the place is full, but they don't have anything to eat... The restaurant had no food for lunch and dinner, and besides breakfast we didn't eat there at all. For 3 days they didn't have watermelon shake, no fresh coconut shake, and the atmosphere was they don't want guests. Every day they said: tomorrow we will have. The place is not cheap at all, and if you stay there, just know that besides the swimming pool- that is very nice- you wouldn't want to be around. They do accept diners card though... 🤪 Worst value for money we received in Thailand. …
My friend and I were extremely disappointed with our stay at the Pariya. Here is a list of the reasons why: 1. You had to take a boat to Had Rin. This is where full moon is and the rest of the island is within driving distance of Had Rin. The boat ride is only 5 minutes long, but it costs 300THB for each person for one way. If you want to do anything on the island, the only option is to take the boat plus you have to take a taxi or motorbike to get around the island. We stayed for three days and ended up spending a fortune on the boat taxi’s. We knew the hotel was a boat ride away from Had Rin before but we assumed the hotel would have accomadation for that. 2. There is NO housekeeping. They leave fresh towels, water bottles, and toilet paper outside of your room but do not clean it. This is unacceptable for the cost of the villa. 3. There were ants everywhere!!! 4. There is no electricity from 1-4pm. The only good things about the Pariya: 1. Beach is beautiful and very relaxing. 2. The staff are extremely nice and friendly. Overall, we had a very poor experience and would not recommend.…
