Stayed for 10 nights, had room 45 above a storage cupboard (never a problem). Room was basic with a ceiling fan which meant it was a little unpleasant at night. There’s no storage just a large fridge. The steps up to the room were really steep and big. Room cleaned every other day with clean towels and sheets. All staff were very friendly but a little vague at times about my questions. Food is fab, cheap but excellent. Lovely to eat your breakfast right on the beach which is quiet most of the time. The “Family” massage place just over the road was excellent, visited 3 times, each time very friendly and excellent massage.

We love this place for the food. We stayed at a resort up the beach but ate here all the time. Any egg and toast for breakfast 50bht when our restaurant at our resort charged double. The evening food is very cheap and lovely. We tried everything from the Korean bbq to the Pad Thai. Can’t fault this place. The young girl and older guy who serve you every day are lovely and couldn’t do more for you.

The room was clean, spacious, slept 3 (onl 2 of us) with a bathroom and fan. Which kept the room nice and cool. The room was basic but did the job perfectly. There is wifi too both in the room and in the restaurant by the beach. The staff were very helpful with onward travel and holding our bags. The accommodation was included in a diving package from ocean sound dive and yoga which is conveniently just across the street.

Koh Tao Tropicana Resort is by far the best place to stay in Chalok Baan Koh Tao. The rooms are great, the food in the restaurant is delicious and affordable, and the staff are warm and friendly. We have been holidaying at this resort every year for the last 15 years.👍

We have stayed at this resort many times. The rooms are comfortable, the staff are friendly and helpful and the restaurant has the best tasting food.
Tropicana's restaurant is right beside the bay, so the views are spectacular.

The rooms are horrible, cockroach and lizard infested cesspit. The state of the rooms are only surpassed by the rude, racist and unhelpful staff. No where else in Thailand was I made to feel this uncomfortable or unwelcome. Honestly it's cheap but not worth it. To top it off I actually walked in on a member of their staff going through my possesions when I popped back to my room after saying I was off to go out diving. The lady even had the cheek to argue with me even when caught red handed and when I complained further I was called every name under the sun and being a female travelling alone I was so intimidated I had to check out.

So in summary, rude dishonest racist staff, filthy rooms, roaches, noisy, even though it's cheap there are far better places for the same money.

My partner and I stumbled upon the resort in search of another resort. The direction they gave us weren't good and when we couldn't find it. We decided to go back and stay at the tropicana resort. We paid for two nights but when we checked into the room we canceled the second night straight away. The place was full of dead and alive mosquitoes on the wall and ceiling. Bathroom was very old an no flush on the toilet. Beds where without any form of blanked or duvet and the smell in the room was like wet dog. To make things worse there was no WiFi in the room, even it was promised to us.
We decided to go for a walk and of course we finally found our hidden initial choice of hotel. And it appeared that we couldn't cancel our reservation and had to pay the full price.
So we went back to tropicana to cancel our booking there, willing to pay for the 2 hours that we already used the room (put our backs inside and killed bunch of mosquitoes) but nothing could be done. I found that very unreasonable. And the staff was very unhelpful. They seemed to enjoy our misery of having to pay for to accommodations.
When I was leaving the premises. I met several guest complaining about what the thought where bedbugs. Happy I didn't stayed the night. Unhappy that the stole my money!

My advise. Don't go. So many better and cheaper resorts out there!

I stayed at this "resort" for one night, before moving due to bedbugs. I had a trail of bites from the wrist of my right hand, up my arm, across my shoulders and back, down to my left wrist. And also on my legs, ankles and face. I politely asked the manager to change rooms but was met with hostility. "They're not bed bug bites. We've NEVER had bed bugs". She then got two staff members to check the bed, and lo and behold, they were crawling all underneath the mattress. The manager accused me of bringing them in (and I'm very certain I didn't... I have more than 100 bites- this is the work of an army of bed bugs!) and said that I had to pay for the nights accomodation.
Absolutely ridiculous! The staff handled the matter so unprofessionally. They refused to take responsibility or offer a laundry service. And in addition to the other negative reviews, yes, the bathroom is really terrible and smells foul.
I by no means have high expectations- I've stayed in many budget hostels in South East Asia, and Central and South America. It's a joke that this place is labelled a resort or a hotel. Save your money and try somewhere else... There are many other accomodation options in the area!

Cannot believe this hotel, have never in my life stayed in such a deplorable place, Tropicana should not even call itself a "hotel"...
We arrived at Buddha view and instead of just dropping us off 20 metres closer to Tropicana, they preferred to watch us drag our heavy luggage through the sand along the beach, rather than go through the paved road. Then we get to the reception and they ask for 200 baht more per night than what was agreed. After a long journey by bus and dragging our luggage through the sand we did not feel up for a fight over 200 baht per night. We were then asked to pay the full payment in advance for our entire stay right upon arrival, and when we were surprised by this the receptionist said in a very vile tone "everywhere same like this, must pay when check in". Everywhere in Thailand maybe? Don't think so. Everywhere in the world, certainly not. She then continued on to say "yes, everywhere in the world, must pay on check in, everywhere i been, same".
So we understood pretty quickly that service is not the strong point of this hotel, but we didn't expect it to get worse. We were then told to bring our luggage to our room, which included all our dive gear, and climbing two flights of high stairs. One person did help us, but we had to sort out the rest on our own, breaking a wheel on my suitcase along the way. Once we got to the room, there was no drinking water, not even in the mini-bar for purchase. When we asked why the mini-bar is empty, they told us to go buy some bottled water at 7-11. We were given a few pieces of tissue which served as toilet paper, did not last long. When we asked for more toilet paper, they wanted to charge us 5 baht for a tiny piece of tissue. I asked what kind of a hotel is this, that does not even provide toilet paper or bottled water, how can they call themselves a hotel. For 30 dollars a night, I know my money can be better spent elsewhere. They only clean the room once every 4 days and never replenish anything... Obviously, not even toilet paper. I don't know if it's just incredible laziness, disdain, hatred of foreigners??? Management is the worst I have ever experienced in all my life of travelling.
If it were not for the incredibly horrifying staff, this place wouldn't be so bad as the rooms are clean and comfortable, although there has been a foul sewage smell coming from the bathroom since we arrived. And the TV is apparently just here for decoration as there are no channels.
Avoid this place at all costs if you can, I would never recommend it and cannot wait to leave.

Does the bungalow with ac have a flush toilet (not the bucket flush)? Do I need to pay extra for the flush toilet?

Okay, I found the answer. Bungalows are bucket flush. You need to go one up to get a western flush. Hope this helps other travelers. Good luck
