Koh Tao Montra resort is one of few bigger luxury hotel/resorts on Koh Tao. Offering great beach front location and the biggest swimming-pool with massage tub and swim up-bar. We have distanced our self from the smaller room sizes Koh Tao is known for with rooms from 40 - 100+ sq m.

Being located in Mae Haad makes it a more quite and relaxed resort with easy access to shops, restaurants and other activities, and should you require more bars and night clubs during your stay it is only a 10-15 minute walk to the busy and famous Sairee Beach.

Stayed 2 nights at Montra Hotel which is located within walking distance of the ferry port. The hotel is an older rustic Hotel but certainly has a charm about it. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the large pool view room we had was clean with good air conditioning and a big shower and toilet room. The bed was huge and comfortable too. The 2 pools were of a good size but needed a little maintenance and cleaning. The poolside toilets were very clean but had no toilet rolls or hand towels etc. Sunbeds did not all have covers but sunshades were available. The room keys did not work well and there were gaps in the doorframes and the door seemed to be not very secure. The TV did not work either. We did not try breakfast here as there were restaurants nearby. The grounds were lovely but needed a little maintenance also. The pool bar was not staffed and towels were found behind the reception on request.

The hotel is expensive for what it is. The rooms are big and comfortable but you can listen all your neighbors conversations next door, very bad sound isolation. The water pressure is very bad in the shower. The swimming pool would be good if not loud music all the time, impossible to rest/ relax, even asked to turn off several times but was ignored and I was only one at the pool. Food at the hotel restaurant is good but expensive, lots of restaurants around with great choices. Breakfast is ok but nothing special.

Room was good value, pool was very pretty. The cocktails were a bit low quality. TV didnt work, staff very quick to ask for money in an urgent pushy way. Asked to use a computer to send email and was told no problem then a moody lady said was not possible. Good location as near to pier and other attractions.

The hotel is located at the far end of the beach street with all its restaurants, bars and shops. Although it doesn’t located in the center we thought it would be the best choice for us since we didn’t want to listen to a loud music all night from all these bars and restaurants. To our surprise the restaurants and bars were very quite and empty due to coronavirus and drop in tourism. The shock came from the hotel we stayed in. The first day there was a note from the hotel left in our room with “so called” apology notifying us that the next night will be a staff night and they will have music till midnight. It was not just music. There were scrumming and loud laughing. The level of this noise (we would not even call this music a music) was much greater than ALL the restaurants and bars on the beach street. Since we live in Thailand we made our reservation just a couple of days in advance. If at the time of booking we were informed about their staff party we would choose a different hotel. Did they consider the customers and their comfort? Did they even care? At the time when they should care and think about each and everyone customer and in the crisis of the whole tourism industry this Thai hotel shows a complete ignorance. I would not recommend to pick this hotel which care about customers so little.

Positives are that the rooms are large and the staff are very friendly & helpful

Negatives: Please look at my attached photos, compare to those shown here. The reality is Very different. It’s is not a 4 star hotel! 2 stars would be generous
This place is a run down mess; pool furniture is broken and filthy, broken tiles in the pool with sharp edges, pool bar is shut, rotten wood on the pool steps, rooms doors didn’t shut properly ( took 2 days to fix the lock on sons room)
The beachfront area looks like a building site, definitely no beach dining as advertised
The restaurant is appalling. You have to set your own table, chipped plastic plates, no serviettes. Kitchen area was filthy. We went for breakfast the first day and were “greeted” by the manager/ owner who barked at us to give him our voucher. The coffee was the worst I’ve ever tasted, and the juice was some artificial tasting concoction, the fruit was covered by insects, eggs were not cooked. We left it and went out to eat after that.
Wifi was very slow and unreliable
Several power outages during our stay
I contacted booking.com right away to report all this and request a move & refund. After discussing with them it seems that they contacted the hotel but didn't get a response

I don’t usually write reviews but I feel like I need to write one as I was shocked at how different the hotel looked in person to booking.com website. We booked for 3 nights and ended up leaving a day earlier to go to a different island but if I would of booked a week in this hotel I would of been so disappointed. I just don’t find the hotel very clean and also there is no disability Ramps from the reception to the restaurant. I was shocked to see people having to carry a wheelchair up and down stairs of such a big hotel. Also the breakfast shouldn’t be extra on top of the charge of the room as there is not a lot of choice and just didn’t taste nice 👎🏼. Just wouldn’t recommend

This hotel is very much over rated. No way is this a 4 or even 3 star hotel.
The photographs are not true to the reality. Just as the other the other reviews say.
I would avoid as this is certainly not worth the money in comparison to other hotels on the island or surrounding islands.
The food served at breakfast is so bad, like us I’m sure you will avoid once you have given it a go a first time. Coffee and juices are awful and I wouldn’t even try the eggs. I made my own toast on my first day and never went back.
The rooms and facilities are tired and neglected. Had to ask for coat hangers, hand soap and a spare toilet roll as these things don’t appear as standard.
Service at best, is ok.
I had to make an international call to reception from my mobile as there aren’t any phones in the room and the wifi service to contact their WhatsApp number rarely worked.
This is just not value for money so I’d recommend to look elsewhere.

The rooms were lovely, nicely decorated and clean. The pool area is huge with multiple sections to choose from including a warmer jacuzzi section. The swim up bar is a cool feature and the staff were always around ready to help. It was quiet when we were there and staff were always cleaning the pool and surrounding area. The restaurant does really nice Thai food and good shakes. We enjoyed sitting on the beach bean bags which are free for the hotel guests. The rooms are cleaned every day. Highly recommend staying here

One should consider than msost rooms have windows on the walk way side. So unless you close tight your curtain, you will end up in a no-window, no-view room. Alternatively, you will not have any privacy as passers-by will be able to peak inside your room.

The staff is very very relaxed when it comes to customers' satisfaction and handling of the facility overall .

Don’t be fooled by the photos. It’s really awful. I don’t write bad reviews but you have to know.
It’s so overgrown the sun doesn’t shine there for long.
The WiFi is nonexistent. It’s NOT available in your room, not in public places and barely in reception.
Room is smelly and balcony doors and windows have gaps wide enough for the mozzies to fly directly in and bathroom worse… obviously not been in use for ages. (Thank goodness I took wipes). At that moment we knew we were only going to stay the one night.
I will say the bed was comfortable. But bedding didn’t reach side to side.
Breakfast was absolutely awful. The egg station was a large gas tank and single burner. And the food was inedible but obviously the ants loved it. It was a free for all for them.
I have just reread this and feel awful for writing it but maybe it will help them get the place right as they did not listen to us.
