We just spent two weeks at the Dusit Buncha Resort and must say that the staff was really nice and helpful, which for us is one of the most important things on our holiday.

Yes, the resort is a bit of a trek from the Sairee village and a taxi costs 300-400 baht per car (whether you have one or four passengers) and the food is double the price of the village and yes, they had the same fire show on every night and yes, we had a scorpion in our bathroom (yes, really :) ). But the location and the lay-out of the resort are pretty, the snorkeling in front of the resort as good as anywhere on the island and the staff so nice that yes, we had very enjoyable two weeks there.

Do note, though, that if you have any sort of a disability or are out of shape, the paths to some of the villas have REALLY steep steps with no proper handrails.

Thank you for a nice stay!

We booked a pick up 24hrs before which was great. A smooth collection at the pier with clear instructions.

Location is 10-15 mins drive from the main beach town. Which is very hilly.
The hill is very steep down to the hotel, but once down into the resort, its not too bad. Plenty of steps to help!

We hired a moped easily from reception.

Miss Pameka and Miss Nee were very helpful and friendly at reception.

Breakfast with a view was a bonus in the mornings! Food was traditional thai food. And an omlette / egg station too.

The room was huge, the bed was large, and had surprised us with balloons which was nice.

Our balcony was on the pool level, which had good views, not the best, but could still see through the trees.

I would recommend the poolside rooms if you don't want to walk too far. We did see other seaview and hillside villas, but were private walkways and uphill, too far to have a nosey!

Good: amazing view over the sea and out to the island. When we got there and found that we had been put in a villa right up the (very steep) mountain, we explained that one of our party had problems with his lungs and so were given a free upgrade to a junior suite, which was closer to the reception. They have a free shuttle into Sairee (10 mins) three times a day, which is handy, although there is no return shuttle service. Overall, the rooms were spacious and the views really lovely.

Bad: The breakfast was thoroughly uninspiring, the worst we've had anywhere in Thailand yet. UHT milk, fake orange juice (complete with fake fleshy bits), overly sweet bread, sweet omelettes, and a fruit selection comprising under-ripe rock melon, watermelon and pineapple if you were lucky (the plate only ever lasted 10 minutes and then there would be a 20 minute wait to have it topped up). 3 out of 4 in our group didn't bother with breakfast on our last morning, preferring to go hungry rather than eat such mediocre fare. In addition, the service (apart from the lovely and helpful reception staff) was uneven. When we asked for a corkscrew on our last night to open a bottle of wine in our room, we were told that this would cost 300 baht for them to open the bottle, which seems excessive. The restaurant food in general was pricey, which one would expect in a resort like this, but its quality was poor and the food was brought out at wildly varying times (the night we ate there for dinner my father received his crab 30mins after the rest of us received our meals). Finally, just a note for families and others who might like to use the 'sandy beach' advertised in signs around the resort - it has been washed away, so the only bathing options involve climbing down a rickety ladder or jumping off rocks into the sea, or onto the sand (about 1m below concrete steps) where the beach used to be. We managed it fine, but it might be tricky for small children or those who are less mobile, and frustrating for those who would like to lie on a beach.

This resort has the potential to be quite fantastic - if the restaurant put more effort into making tasty food and sorted out its breakfast menu, and the hotel management sorted out their signage etc, many of the small problems which frustrated our stay would be resolved. As it is, however, I don't think we'd bother going back to Dusit Buncha - the breakfast alone would keep me away!

An absolutely fabulous resort. Seafront bungalow with panoramic sea view. All staff were amazing. Never a day without fresh coffees towels made up bed. Excellent. If you're not fit when you arrive you will be when you leave. Lots of steps! Great breakfast with egg station waffles Thai items fruits etc... Definitely need scooter or transport as located at furthest north section of the island. Truly one of the finest resort/hotels I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Renovations ongoing but mostly complete. They have retained all the original trees etc. It's like staying in a nature reserve. Seriously beautiful.

This hotel is not suitable for children. Hazardous, and no facilities for children. The staff were uninterested, like they hadn't been paid. It had all of the key attributes for a stunning place. The view - magnificent, the rooms - ok. They supplied a ferry to the adjacent island and kayaks. Fantastic snorkeling below the hotel. We asked to checkout late, but were told they were full, when the place was deserted. The infinity pool had tiles missing, jagged edges and wires sticking out in the water, where lights should have been. It was like a ghost town, that had once been fabulous. Such a shame.

This resort has it all! We chose to stayed here because of the view and of course room. Our room was spotless and staffs were superb nice and efficient. If you’re looking for a quiet place, room with spectacular view, I would definitely recommend here. I don’t understand why some negative reviews appear on here, because I couldn’t find anything to mention. Briefly… The Best of The Best!

The resort is at the end of the road and it made us feel it was quite far from everything. However, after we droped down to the resort all of our tireness gone. Fresh breath and stunning view of Nang Yuan Island.

We stayed at Paradise Seaside Villa just facing the sea. Sleeping and hearing sound of wave made us felt like we were just in a dream coming true. The room is decorated in Thai style with lot of wood. Have mosquitoes in the evening but didnt bother us because they had offered lotion to protect mosquitoes in the room.

Infinity swimming pool is small but fantantic view. Food was ok and reasonable price.

We did snorkeling in front of the resort and saw many kinds of fish.

We were apprehensive about the resort when we read about the mixed reviews on Trip Advisor. As my wife and I were traveling with friends, we kept to the itinerary. And were we glad we did!

The resort is located at the end of the road in the remote north-western corner of Koh Tao and overlooking Koh Nangyuan. Designed in a rustic style with lots of wood, it is built around huge boulders and over steep slopes. The resort is an exercise to walk around and certainly, does not need a gym at all! As we were staying in a deluxe sunset villa at the water's edge, it was a short walk (although steep each way) up and down from our villa to the restaurant and adjoining pool. We counted a climb of 69 steps from our villa uphill to the walkway's branch before we walked downhill to the restaurant.

The sunset villa is one of two in the resort. It has 2 outdoor private terraces, with a dining table for 2 and a sun lounger in one, and 2 sun loungers in the other. The air-conditioned bedroom is small but guests are supposed to enjoy the outdoors anyway. The non-airconditioned spacious bathroom has a big shower area. The drain pipe of the wash basin was dripping and there wasn't much space to place toiletries.

As we read about reviews on mosquitoes, we brought along mosquito coils and insect repellent. Although there is a small private beach just in front of both sunset villas, it was rocky and the steps do not extend all the way down to the beach. So, we gave the private beach a miss which was a disappointment as the clear water and rocks were teeming with fishes. Nonetheless, we enjoyed a comfortable stay in our sunset villa.

At the restaurant, the breakfast and other meals were good. Portions were sizable and prices were reasonable. We had all our meals in the resort. Service staff was friendly. Obviously, the resort's owners and management staff had made it a point to improve on previous negative reviews. Throughout our stay, we saw the elderly Thai owners, whether dining in the restaurant or checking the private jetty or doing their inspection rounds. We were pleasantly surprised with their fitness level as they hardly struggled with the steep climbs while we had to catch our breaths.

We did not explore Koh Tao even though we read about the few attractions on the island. There was enough to occupy us at the resort. In the resort grounds, the constant sound of crickets throughout the daytime was a most pleasant reminder of nature. In the evenings, the sunset behind Koh Nangyuan offered a fantastic night show. We had a good and enjoyable rest.

I visited Dusit Buncha yesterday with the intention of booking my last few nights on Koh Tao there. I was asked to pay just to enter the complex, quoted a price of more than 4000 baht per night, for what looks like a building site. Went to the bar for a quick drink before leaving and was surprised to find the staff more interested in me paying my bill than asking whether I wanted food or another drink. I wanted both but decided to leave and spend my money where my custom would be appreciated!

Dear mjerrington, Thank you very much for sharing your experience with Dusit Buncha Resort. On behalf of Dusit Buncha Resort, I would like to apologize for the service downfall that you experienced in our restaurant. However, allow me to explain about our hotel and room rate policy; 1. We do charge THB100 for outside guest who would like to enter the hotel complex. The main reason is that we want to keep the complex exclusive for our in house guest, for their privacy of course. 2. Our room rate varies from THB3,200 to THB10,500 per night. The rate quoted for you was for our deluxe room with sea view, our best-selling room. When you mentioned that the price was too much, I have offered a discounted price for you in which you still turned down. Moreover, may I know how you judge that our room is overpriced when you did not even look at the room facilities and amenities, the view from the room, and the services that we provide? Again, I would like to apologize that you find our hotel policy unpleasant and our room rate policy does not suit your budget. Best regards, Reinaldo Putra Guest Experience Manager

We had high expectations for this hotel. Booked the most expensive room for our last night in Thailand. We wanted a special romantic last night. Bad call. Air conditioning hardly worked. The customary fruit was left out in heat rather than put in fridge before arrival. Mosquito nests had huge holes in it. Hotel was far outside of town center, but we figured it would be easy to get taxis into town - wrong. Not possible to hail taxis anywhere close to the hotel and the hotel will not call taxis for you, they will only let them use their own taxi service, which is minimum 200 BHT each way. They charged us 300 on the way back for the difference of a few street blocks. The lady at the front desk was AWFUL!! rude and very unhelpful. Her name was Mrs. Nee. My boyfriend had me write it down so we can warn others in the future who visit this place and so that maybe the hotel management would discuss her treating guests with respect. This was the only hotel we stayed in in Thailand that did not offer to help carry our suitcases to the room (and this is despite staying in the most expensive room in the hotel - it was over $300, which for Koh Tao is really, really expensive!). Further when we asked the lady at the front desk how to get to the room rather than escort us down or have someone escort us- she just pointed in a direction and said walk straight down until the water. Of course the path was not completely straight and we had no way of knowing to go behind a specific gate to get to the room and there were TONS of steps that we nearly tripped over with our bags trying to get down. The room's pretty heart shaped pool you see in pictures on their website and on other booking websites was not a pool at all, but rather a very very shallow bath that did not even have water in it. Although the hotel has a shuttle that occasionally runs into town it only runs a few times during the day, which means if you want to go anywhere but their restaurant for dinner, where the food was awful, you have to pay at least 400-600 BHT just to get to and from dinner. Overall summary, bad service, hotel was in poor condition, plan on getting bit by lots of mosquitoes, having bad food, and spending a lot of money to get anywhere on the island but the hotel. Would definitely not recommend.
