Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a return visit for us.This guesthouse is connected to the Cafe del Sol restaurant and has only two clean rooms opposite the restaurant above a french diveshop. It is well suited for families as it has a King double and two bunk beds, airco, TV and a nice terrace. The shower seems to be solar heated, bur there was always loads of hot water. Beds are firm, but certainly not too hard for western standards. Be aware that the top bunk is very high and probably not suited for small kids. You can always lay that mattress on the floor if needed. The staff of the cafe also run the guesthouse. They were all ver friendly and always willin to help. Also the manager Robert is a nice guy, willing to help and please. Contact him direct for a better price than the booking sites

We went here twice while staying at Captain Nemo, once for breakfast and once for lunch. The latter's pizza was plenty for two people, and startlingly good, with perfectly grilled eggplant. For breakfast we went all-out and got regular and vegetarian versions of full English, and both were hearty, hot, and delicious.

Yes as Christina C saidthe rooms are up a steep set of steel steps,so very difficult for the infirm or injured, but the staff of the restaurant were quick to take our baggage up o the room,as I was stuffed from coral poisonng and very weak, and my fellow traveller was getting over a broken leg. But once up the steps,a large divided balcony opens up with chairs and table for each unit. The room was large and cool, and had a double bed and also 2 bunk beds. The air con was fine, and refrigerator worked well. The large flat screen TV had cable /sat and a dvd player.Mine host was very helpfull and biked me up to the local clinic for treatment. The restaurant food was superb, and went with a fine wine list.A popular well attended cafe, with great staff.Elizabeth H,yes the beach to the right of the pier looking from the hotel,is quite OK and safe for swimming and sunning, and mostly deserted. A great place to stay. As motor scooter rental is not reccommended on Koh Tao do to scams and rip offs by the renters I did not get to see all the island I wanted to see. But AHLLL be Back!!!!!

The guesthouse has just two rooms above a french diveshop. Good sized, clean family room with strong aircon and a nice terrace. Beds are firm, but certainly not too hard for western standards (and probably soft by Thai standards). It's a great room for families, as it has a bunkbed. Be aware though that the top bunk is very high and probably not suited for small kids. You can always lay that mattress on the floor if needed. Cleaning situation was a bit unclear, with a large sign outside the room (PLEASE MAKE UP MY ROOM) and nothing happening. That was solved though; you have the leave your key at the Café de Sol and it gets cleaned. As with many hotels and guesthouses on Koh Tao, breakfast is not included, as moving stuff to the island is pretty expensive. No problem though, there are lots of options nearby. English of the staff is limited, but manager Robert is a nice guy, willing to help and please.

Located 1 minute from the Pier you arrive to, this guest room is spacious, modern and clean. If i went to Koh Tao again I would probably stay at Sairee Beach as there isn't a good beach for tanning and swimming in walking distance of the Pier area but it was very convenient for arriving to and leaving the island. Two guest rooms were located above a dive shop which was pretty quiet. The room was really big and actually had 1 double bed as well as a set of bunk beds which we didn't need. Working wifi and tv had a good selection of channels. The Cafe del Sol had great breakfast and delicious iced coffee. The Safety Stop nearby had great options for fast food and also delicious breakfast and iced coffee with a nice view. Had to go into the Cafe for any room service which was a little weird but we didn't need much service so it was fine. A great stay in the Pier area.

This guesthouse was located on the second floor up some very steep steps. My friend and I had recently been in a very bad motor bike accident on koh samui and found it very difficult to get up the steps because of our injuries. Despite the short walk from the ferry pier, I wouldn't recommend this location if you are old or have any trouble walking. The cafe del sol restaurant across the street had pretty good food (delicious muesli), as did some of the restaurants nearby. The room was pretty nice with a queen bed, a set of twin bunk beds and a tv with a very good selection of channels. The only weird thing we found was that the toilet smelled like sewage all day long. There is a nice seating area outside with a bench and table.

We stayed here 4 nights. Room was reasonable value and spacious, bunks and a double. Location perfect, quietish at night, 20min walk from the main action. Breakfast not inc but cafe linked to accomodation a good bet for this. Main concern was the lack of staff friendliness, bins were a struggle to get changed, and we had a slightly uneasy feel about their 'check' of the room at the end of our stay. One of us accompanied them for this against their wishes, and no extra charges were made but still seemed a bit strange as we had left the room in a perfect state. Overall the room was good and we'd recommend the room. However, for some the lack of staff friendliness and charm might have dampened their stay.

Cafe del sol It was our first time visiting koh Tao and we last minute tried to find somewhere that had air conditioning, modern and good reviews at the cheapest price. We booked the minimum two nights and ended up extending here for an additional six nights. We intended on doing our open water dive course which we did through Golden divers who were great and one of the cheapest. It's a few minutes walk to their boar and the pier so great location for that. Cafe de sol is two apartments side my side on top of a dive shop. The cafe itself is across the road where you pick up the key. This place is a two minute walk from the pier so no need to get a taxi on arrival and departure. Lots of shops, restaurants, massage places etc nearby. Sairee beach is around a 20 minute walk along the pedestrian track that goes alongside the cafe - a few hills at start but not too much of a walk and that's where you'll find all the nightlife, more restaurants, shops etc. the rooms are a decent size, modern, clean, nice balcony and drying area for clothes, wifi very good, staff attentive to requests. We would stay here again if we came back. Debated staying at Sairee Beach to be closer but was quiet and convenient where we were and had everything we needed. Occasional noises at night which you'd expect but nothing to be concerned about, overall very quiet spot! Thank you to all cafe staff, especially Jed!
