This small guesthouse has a lot going for it. The staff are friendly, it has a great location on the Mekong, and the rooms are large and comfortable. The wifi was also fast ans reliable. The one negative was a strong smell of urine that seemed to come up from the drain in the bathroom. Keeping the bathroom door closed helped with this. Nong Khai is an underrated town, so stopping for a night or two at the Pan guesthouse is a great idea.

There are 2 doors, 1 to the upper floor with an electronic lock and another that was left open. Someone will spot you if you are a "walk in". The upper floor rooms have balconies overlooking the Mekong and Laos. Lower rooms don't and are without external windows . We spent 1 hour looking for electric light switch in room , but couldn't find it. Most lower rooms have ensuite bathroom but at least 1 does not, shared bathroom is at other end of corridor near entrance. There are places to sit outside just for guests where you can watch the outdoor market if you are there at the weekend. Beds are hard, TV and aircon work fine. Bathroom if present is budget style. There are coffee/tea making facilities in corridor on lower floor with bread and toaster . Just behind is the indo China market , there is a noodle soup eating place and the Vietnam restaurant within 20m. I liked it here

Pan Guesthouse is located right on Nong Khai's riverfront promenade (walking street), which is very good for a relaxing and scenic stroll along the Mekong River bank. The facilities are basic, but the owner and staff are friendly and helpful. The location of the guesthouse is a bit difficult to find, because it is hidden among several shophouses. Caution: The directions given by Google Map gets you close to the guesthouse, but leads to the wrong alley (if getting there by car). However, the people in the neighbourhood can give you the proper direction to the guesthouse's private parking lot.

Pan was quite a find after a bad start in another hotel. It didn't look overpriced for the location but had an external appearance which simply felt good. I enquired about rooms. They were between 500 and 750bht. The expensive ones had little balconies and views over the Mekong. I was trying to stay on budget and opted for the cheapest. It was a room with no window but don't let that put you off. It was a reasonable size and very colourful with a pink bedspread and large green fridge which was stocked with ice cold water. The air con was set to Arctic winter so I turned it up to 28. A fan was in a corner and was totally silent. The bed was large and comfortable, the bathroom had an excellent hot water shower system and was spotlessly clean. Two large bath towels, thick and fluffy, were part of the kit and the wifi was lightening fast and worked in the room. The room was cleaned daily and sheets changed daily. I was so impressed with Nong Khai and Pan that I stayed for a total of six nights instead of the planned two. The Pan is a good place to explore the huge local market and its little Thai style cafe/restaurant is perfect for a cheap breakfast or lunch. It closes in the evenings but there is no shortage of top quality food in dozens of restaurants along the waterfront. This town hasn't been taken over by tourism so get in fast and enjoy its friendly atmosphere and people.

This place had the best common area to chill and talk to other people. Everyone including staff were super friendly. The food was good and cheap as well! The rooms and toilets were fresh and clean! It's a bit noisy from the market close by but not that bothers anyone at night!

I don’t know why it is Guest house I think it is hotel. I stayed there for 3 nights. Nice big clean room with big balcony without any view but I thing it is OK because no any noise from outside the hotel ( walking people, boats on the river and etc.) . Comfortable mattress, pillows. Bed linen changed every day! 2 bottles of water and toilet amenities were every day. Tea and coffee in the hotel lobby 24 hours free of charge. You can use bicycle free of charge during your stay at the hotel . Good WiFi in the room. I liked it very much.

We came to Nong Khai late in the afternoon and from an earlier visit this year we checked if there was a room available. We had the room in front on the ground floor. This room even has a little balcony. They placed an extra mattrass on the floor for our son. This is a friendly guesthouse with very clean rooms with airco, fridge and tv for 500 Bht per night.

A simple guesthouse with few facilities. Nice clean spacious comfortable room. Complimentary hot drinks but no breakfast or food available, but that's no problem. Situated on the promenade with a great view across the Mekong River towards Laos, there are plenty of places for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Friendly helpful hosts and staff, bicycles available (they never charged me, so not sure if these are free or the staff forgot to charge!) Would definitely stay there again and recommend to backpackers who don't need frills and facilities. Excellent value for money.

I made a booking through an agency for a 3 night stay based on the information on the Pan Guesthouse website. They promoted their balcony views and a price tag of 500TBH. The reality is that if you pay that amount what you get is a room out the back with NO balcony and NO view. The balcony and view come at an extra 200TBH. I refused to accept their invitation to pay the extra 200TBH for the room that I thought I had booked and departed. The upshot of that was they reported back to the agency that I had not shown up for the booking in the hope that they could collect via the agency from my credit card. I responded to the agency on the matter of their untruthfulness and they apologised and resolved the issued in my favour. The location is stunning but there are more conveniently located hotels nearby offering honest value.
