Located in the heart of the private Taita Hills Sanctuary, bordering Tsavo West National Park in south-eastern Kenya, Salt Lick Safari Lodge is a truly unique concept consisting of 96 rooms elevated on stilts, each overlooking a waterhole and linked by suspended walkways. At night, the waterholes are floodlit ensuring that you enjoy an uninterrupted view of the numerous animals arriving to quench their thirst. The elevated restaurant, and the bar a level higher, also offer stunning views of the sanctuary and are the ideal vantage points to view game. The lodge has its own fleet of well-equipped safari vehicles with excellent guides. The climate is very moderate with temperatures averaging between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius all year round. There are sporadic rains in March, April, November and December. Due to the unique layout of the lodge, it is not suitable for children below 8 years. Salt Lick Safari Lodge is 400 km from Nairobi and 200 km from Mombasa. The lodge is a one-hour flight from Nairobi or 30 minutes from Mombasa by private charter which lands at the Lodge's own airstrip. The Sanctuary is a 3-hour drive from Mombasa and a 6-hour drive from Nairobi on tarmac roads. So, if you intend to make the most out of your African safari holidays, Salt Lick Safari Lodge is the right place to be. No matter if you plan to head-over to Nairobi or Mombasa, the Lodge turns out to be a perfect check-in option.

i've traveled the world and stayed in some pretty funky places. This one ranks near the top. Originally built by Hilton Hotels, but dumped, nothing in the room fits right nor works, not the windows, not the safe, not the door locks, and God forbid you look under the bed which hasn't been cleaned in years, the shower is gross. Easy to understand why Hilton jettisoned this place. The staff in the restaurant are not nice people, downright rude. The concept was a good thought, but it is not working, at all. Sitting outside and watching the animals come into the watering hole is spectacular but not the hotel itself.

I truly enjoyed my stay at Salt Lick Safari Lodge. The Lodge lives up to it's reputation. The views are to die for and the staff are very warm and friendly. A special mention goes to the following staff who made my stay memorable: Ngumbao Mweri is an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable with a fun personality to go with it. His laugh is infectious. I would highly recommend going on a game drive with him. Martha the Masseuse has a magical touch. A massage session with her is just what you need to make your stay more relaxing. Grace at the gate is so warm and welcoming. Her smile alone makes you feel at home. Chef Bill makes a mean chicken!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Salt-Lick lounge with my three girlfriends, and it was truly a delightful experience. The overall stay was fantastic, great ambiance & the culinary experience was amazing However, what truly set Taita Hills & Saltlick apart was the exceptional service provided by the staff. I would like to extend my gratitude to Philemon our Safari guide, Naomi , Nicholas, Kobin & Joseph.

Lovely lodge on stilts with good view of the water hole but due to recent rains none of the big animals visited. As this was our wedding anniversary they decorated our room which was lovely. Fab shower with complimentary shampoo and body wash. Only issue was if on the second floor the access is via tight metal spiral Staircase which was not good in the rain. Staff nice, food was a large buffet.

Amazing views with great service from our new Friend John. Saw a lot of lions and other wildlife. Also our car had a mechanical issue which was fixed without any problems at the lodge for free, of course we give a nice tip. Would recommend to stay here one night maybe 2
