Due to bad weather, the airline has given us a voucher to stay overnight at this hotel.

As this was a last minute arrangement, the hotel staff reacted quickly to help us to get into the room and rest as it was past midnight when we arrived.

I am impressed with the teamwork of the boss and his staffs. They tried their best.

Overall, this is a simple hotel with warm and helpful staffs tombstone goes all the to help us who are hungry and tired at that very moment.

This is a quality property. We had a beautifully appointed room, management was professional, knowlegable about the area, helpful, and courteous. The hotel is right off the main highway about 10 minutes or so from the downtown in a newer area of Sandakan. The area is mixed apartment houses and retail businesses. The rooms surround an inner, covered courtyard where they have restaurant and club facilities. Some of those businesses were closed when we stayed and they were renovating this area.

I said "but" in my header because as another guest mentioned, the restaurant service was verrrrry slow and different parts of our breakfast came out at different times, not as one breakfast. It also appeared that the wait staff was inexperienced. Now, everybody has to learn at one time or another in his life. So I wouldn't let this experience prevent me from staying here again or eating my breakfast here, but management needs to get the restaurant staff in sync and up to spec.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here in the future.

I am giving service a 4 star rating because the front end staff were the best, but the breakfast room staff need to better learn their trade.

This hotel is an intergral part of the new commercial and entertainment area and therefore many shops are not opened yet. We booked a van which we collected from the airport and it only took us 10 minutes to reach the hotel. This hotel was not my first preference but I had to go along with my group of friends. But I must admit that I had a good sleep every night.
I stayed in the Deluxe King which was very spacious, with the bed and living room separated by a partition. The tv could be turned to either side, that is, you could watch from the couch or from the bed. If you do not need a living room, the superior double room is spacious too.
The room is well appointed even though it is only a 3 star hotel. I was very impressed that they even provide bedroom slippers. I would have rated the room higher if not for the crack in the toilet bowl which looked like a permanent stain. The bathroom is quite big and comes with rain shower. I like the brightly lit room. There were many lighting points.
Staff were very helpful and polite. When I asked the housekeeping staff to mop the floor as the room smells fetid( like smelly socks), she did a good job as the smell disappeared when I returned to the room.
Breakfast is very simple with only a few choices. It’s only to fill your stomach before setting out for your excursion.
The exterior of the hotel is not impressive at all but there is a central atrium where one can sit down to have a drink. There are a few small Malay eateries under the atrium. Beside the hotel is a big new Chinese Restaurant which was in the midst of renovation when I was there. One disadvantage of the design of the building is that you have to walk along the corridors to reach to your room. So if your room is facing the road instead of the atrium, you will either be exposed to the blazing sun or get wet if it rains heavily. However, I prefer the room facing the road to the atrium. Make sure your room is not directly above the karaoke lounge as the music is quite loud.
If you are looking for a resort feel or a laid back setting, this is not the hotel for you. But I felt very safe staying here unlike downtown. It is advisable to rent a car to move around. The location is quite good as it does not take long to go to touristy places. The famous Sim Sim Seafood Restaurant is only about 15-20 mins drive and further down is the Agnes Keith House. Only one straight road, so it is actually very easy to drive.
Overall, I would say I did not regret staying here as I got a very good value for the room. Book directly with the hotel as there have promotions off and on.

Yes the hotel is located in a slightly inconvenient location in Mile 4 however you aren't missing a whole lot by not being located in the centre of Sandakan.
Absolutely everything surpassed my expectations. The service and cleanliness of the hotel room was far better than some 5 star hotels I have stayed at in Asia.
I can highly recommend this hotel particularly if you are looking at a relaxing night before you head off somewhere else.
The rooms include wifi and Internet connectivity through the tv.
Unbeatable for the price!!

Not sure where to start with this review, which is most unlike me, but like a good responsible traveller I almost always post a review of where me and the hubibie stay. First up, I realised that the Best Western in Sandakan, was relatively a new hotel when I booked, but I hadn't realised just how new until we turned up in a taxi. When our taxi pulled up outside my heart sank, but more about that in a minute, but first the positives.

Check-in was friendly and efficient, great bell boy service and we were served fresh orange juice and then shown quickly to our room on the first floor. We'd booked a deluxe room which was just absolutely pure luxury; king size bed, flat screen TV, rainwater shower, desk and chair, sofas, kettle with complimentary tea and coffe and well, probably one of the best rooms that we have stayed in throughout Asia. Breakfast, which was included in our price, was great and the free Wi-Fi was quick and solid. A real bonus, especially because we needed internet for both business and travel blogging. All of the staff were friendly and smiley and couldn't do enough to make our trip more enjoyable.

And now for the downside and I'm afraid there is one. Best Western had only been opened a couple of weeks when we turned up and building works were still in progress. Not just in the hotel but also in the hotel block and the surrounding blocks. We'd booked a deluxe room because the booking.com website said it had a private baloncy; it did not and neither did any of the rooms appear to have private balcony's. Our room looked out on to an unfinished industrial block with works very much in progress.

What was worse still, was the fact that the Cowie's bar, as advertised on Booking.com and in the hotels own literature, wasn't finished or open and neither was there a functioning restaurant or any room service available. There was a smalll Malaysian restaurant about a minute away from reception in the same unit as the hotel, but only Malaysian food on offer and no alcohol. Perhaps the worst thing about Best Western Salakan is that it is s about 15 minutes from Sandakan town, okay only 10 minutes from the airport, but its in the middle of nowhere. No bars, no restaurants, no nightlife within walking distance. No nothing. Mind you, Sandakan town itself, is a dump, so there is really no need to stay in or be amonst the centre.

All in all, a lovely remote hotel with great potential. Maybe in 12 months time, when the hotels has established itself and building works have been completed it will be a real secret gem. But for now, only stay if you want remote luxury, and only then, if you can negotiate a good price. I was happy with my stay but would have been even happier with a cheap rate bearing in mind that the hotel wasn't ready. BTW, I booked with booking.com and the rate was even higher than the Best Western website rate, so check that out first before booking.

This is my first time I'm knowing there was such a lady who never show as professional to her customer. She is never give proper respect and talk in manner to us when we query on restaurant stuff. Our business to them seems like not important and they not appreciate to deal with us. This kind of service is horrible and I would not recommend at all. Best Western is an international hotel, management should work-out to this lady in Sandakan branch to avoid any negative image to the entire group.

We stayed here one night in March, 2013, while we were between transfers. This place was excellent! The hotel staff picked us up at the airport, helped us with our luggage, and then gave us a complimentary roundtrip ride into town so we could do a little shopping. You really can't beat that.

Our room was wonderful......probably the best in our experience traveling around Sabah. There was also a small Malay restaurant located in the hotel lobby. The food and service was incredible, and you could ask them for wine, beer, or a drink. We had a wonderful dinner for about 30 ringits. They also served a complimentary breakfast.

I don't usually review the hotels where we stay only one night. However, this place definately got two thumbs up from us!

Been staying here for 3 days 2 night. We book for suit with 2 rooms. The design is so modern and I like it so much. However, get a bit disappointed for the hotel which not really function well althought we has call for the housekeeping for the room maintanence. The breakfast is just simple and don expect much on it.

I've been travelling to Sandakan monthly for Business meeting for the past 2years, been hoping into multiple hotel in the region ranging from budget to 4-star.
I found out about this hotel and decided to try it on as i've already seen every hotel available in sandakan.

Upon arrival it doesn't really make a good impression, but it all changes when i stepped into the reception lobby,
Staff - very friendly, welcoming me with warm smile

Check in - was very fast although i did booked online, some other hotels still take times even if you've booked it.

ROOM - I MUST STRESS, this is 1 the thing that blast my mind out as when i walked into the room it was SPACIOUS, CLEAN & PLEASANT. It's almost like i've check into a 5-star hotel room.

INTERNET - if you're someone who need high speed internet for work this is the only HOTEL in whole of sandakan you'll be staying. SpeedTested with download speed of 1Mbs, compared to the 4-star hotel i've stayed which is only around 200kbs. Needless to say i need this speed at least.

LJ Grill - dine in on 1 of my night, food variety is not much but quality of food i must say 1 of the best steak i've had in sandakan better than English Tea House. Was greeted by their F&B manager, a really friendly guy.

Overall, i'll be in this hotel for as long as i need to be in sandakan. No more other hotel.
