Grounds are wonderful the gardener gets 10/10 the rest of the hotel needs an update! The rooms are literally some of the worst I have stayed in since being a skint backpacker to be fair they where reasonably priced but totally and utterly dated!! The rooms need a total revamp please start with the small stuff like beds and pillows then the gross bathrooms.

You have so much potential decide if you want to be a hotel or a hostel. Invest some of that cash in revamping them rooms!

Fair value budget option. Also have transport links to associated Bilit Adventure Lodge on Kinabatangan River that your likely next stop? Good features are the big leafy gardens with lovely clean swimming pool and close walking distance to the animal sanctuaries. Bad features are that even the superior and deluxe rooms are 'long house' style rather than stand-alone chalets so you share walls with your neighbours who you can hear talking in their rooms or walking down the central corridor. Food was also pretty average at the restaurant......but just across the road at the more upmarket (3 star vs 2 star) Sepilok Nature Resort was a fantastic restaurant for about the same price....so if you do not mind the possibility of a bit of neighbour noise then you can save a bit of money and get a swimming pool by staying at the Jungle Resort whilst eating and lunch and dinner at the Nature Resort?

Very much enjoyed our stay at Sepilok Jungle Resort! Good value for money. We stayed 3 nights (1 night at SJR, then Kinabatangan River Cruise 2D 1N, then another 2 nights at SJR). You are very close to the rainforest and the resort grounds are luscious with tropical plants. It’s a beautiful place. Short walk to Orangutang Sanctuary and Sun Bear Sanctuary, which is why we stayed here. Helpful staff can explain the feeding times and where to go. Also walking distance to Rainforest Discovery Centre (about 20 mins) which has great walks. I think it’s better to stay here close to everything than in Sandakan where you need to take a car to the main attractions. You’ll probably eat most / all your meals on site at the Banana Cafe, as there’s not much else around here, but that’s the trade off to stay in the rainforest! The rooms are clean and air conditioned, but the bathrooms are basic - don’t expect too much when you’re not in the city anymore. Grab cars are cheap and easy to get to/from SJR.

We stayed for 4 nights and also went to the sister company “Bilit Adventure Resort” for the 3D/2N Kinabatangan river cruise
We loved the jungle resort - yes it’s a bit rustic in places but you are not paying for luxury, so don’t expect it!! The rooms are spacious and quiet and the staff are super helpful. We loved Shasha who has great banter and helped us so much during the stay
The breakfast is good with fresh fruit eggs toast and Asian food. All round very good - would recommend and definitely stay again

My group and I stayed here as part of an expedition, for 2 nights, of course in order to see the orangutans and sun bears. Upon arrival, the reception was excellent, efficient and helpful, and everything was clean and tidy. Walking to our rooms, we were surrounded by wildlife, plants and critters alike, a beautiful setting. I stayed in a small dormitory room, with a bunk and 2 singles; it was a bit of a squeeze, but still roomy enough to enjoy. The wall-mounted AC fans were effective, and the beds were comfortable and cosy. The wash facility block was good, the toilets clean and showers also clean. One aspect of this resort that made my stay was the pool. A short 2-minute walk across the resort’s network of paths and bridges overlooking plentiful wildlife, the pool was incredibly clean and the perfect temperature, with sun beds, a kiddy pool and even a hot tub area! My friends and I hugely enjoyed the pool, perfect for relaxing in after a hot day of sight-seeing. The cafe onsite served food all day, with a breakfast buffet and a la carte food later on. As someone who enjoys their food greatly, I can confidently say that the food here was delicious, and great value for money. My freinds and I had a variety of dishes, from noodles to burgers, and everything was great.
Overall, a very pleasant, relaxing stay, would definitely recommend for anyone, families or travellers alike.

We stayed in Sepilok Jungle Resort for three nights whilst we visited Borneo and loved the resort. The accommodation is perfect if you're looking for an affordable location that feels authentically "in the jungle".

The deluxe room we stayed in was clean, fully air-conditioned with a little balcony. It had everything we needed but also felt like we were in a cosy wood cabin. The staff were friendly and helped us book a jungle cruise tour nearby whilst we stayed.

The resort itself is incredible, especially for the price. Every day we walked across the walkways connecting the different areas of the resort and had to stop and stare at the views. Jungle foliage, chirping crickets, lizards and tropical birds all live around the resort which immerses you in the local area. The pool was lovely and the outside canteen was tasty if a little basic but it was absolutely fine for when you are staying in the middle of a rainforest!

It's such a short walk to the Orangutan Sanctuary that I went two mornings in a row to watch the feeding sessions (10am) and Sun Bear Conservation Centre is right opposite as well. There's transport available to go further afield if you fancy - we went for dinner in Sandakan one night for a £5 taxi each way.

If you're looking for a little bit fancier accommodation, there's the Sepilok Nature Resort nearby too but honestly I didn't think it was needed at all - wholeheartedly recommend for an authentic stay in the rainforest.

Pictures look nicer than actual experience.
Plusses: it has a pool, breakfast is included, within easy walking distance of the Orang Utan sanctuary and it covers a big domain where some birds can be seen. The ladies at the reception were very kind and helpful.

Minuses: not sufficient beds at the pool and even if we would have had the luck to have one, the beds look nice but are without any mattresses so uncomfortable as you need to lay on hard wood.
The girl in the restaurant is not giving any attention at all, she has a very unfriendly negative attitude almost tempting you not to order. Beers are charged at RM 17 while you can also get them at the resort on the opposite side of the road where they are happy to see you, staff is friendly and welcoming and beer is charged at RM 14,50. Also the food is much nicer and cheaper on the other side.
Breakfast is a disaster with more than often 10
People waiting at only one toaster. Imagine the crowds in peak season. Also seating capacity barely sufficient. Choice is very limited for breakfast. Coffee is reasonable.
Rooms are very small, not very well cleaned and very basic with some dangerous electrical wiring. The mattresses are very very very hard/uncomfortable. Rooms are noisy we could hear our sick neighbor coughing and vomiting as if he were in our room.
All tour operators drop off their guests at check in which is also the restaurant area. When doing so the leave the engines running (assuming for aircon) but diesel fumes and noise find their way to the restaurant which is an open area.

We will not come here again even if we need to pay a bit more.

We chose to stay here overnight before a wildlife safari because of the great location. Our only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer. We arrived after their restaurant had officially closed but they were more than happy to serve us both food and drinks which were very good and reasonably priced.
Our room and en-suite bathroom were ‘tired’ but clean. The rates are cheap and you’re in the middle of the jungle so we weren’t expecting 5 star luxury..
It was a delight to wake in this beautiful setting and briefly explore the flora & fauna. Breakfast was good and plentiful and all staff were polite and helpful. We’d have loved to spend more time exploring the grounds and spotting the wildlife and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we ever get the opportunity.

We had 3 nights here, in my opinion, 2 nights too many. Ideal location for sun bears and orangutan sanctuaries, 5-10min walk. We arranged for the proboscis monkey trip with the hotel, ticket price ok, but transport expensive compared to other taxi journeys We’ve done in Borneo. However, proboscis monkies was my highlight.

Breakfast, basic! Toast, margarine, undercooked eggs, chicken nuggets, Mellon, tea, coffee, nothing else unless you pay extra. Evening meals you pay for, not bad but limited menu.

Animals around the complex? Frogs and geckos at night (plus mosquitoes off course, take repellent), daytime nothing that we saw?

Room basic and that’s us upgraded to their best. Tepid shower, noisy tin roof. Pool area dirty, pool water dirty. No cushions on pool beds.

Final blow was being quoted 18 ringits for trip to airport, being charged 65 ringits when we get there, sour taste left and happy to leave!

We really enjoyed our stay here at the end of a group trip.

The biggest advantage of staying at the Sepilok Jungle Resort is it’s close proximity to the orangutans and sun bears.

The private room was well-kept, as was the bathroom.

WiFi access was reliable, whilst the outdoor swimming pool area was well-received.

A scenic restaurant on site kept everyone well fed and watered.

Around RM300 to RM35. Beer is about RM10per can. Better to but in town before going to the resort. It is hotel price. Much cheaper in the city.

Dear Michelle, Thanks for your enquiry. It is definitely suitable for your 11 years old kid as we have many family with kids who stayed with us. Besides Sepilok orang utan Centre, there are bornean sunbear conservation Centre and Rainforest discovery Centre, all within walking distance to the resort. Further away is the proboscis monkey sanctuary, gomantong cave and kinabatangan River which you can arrange when you have arrived. Typically people stay here for 2 or 3 nights and 1 or 2 nights at the river which is highly recommended.
