Bangkatan Homestay was established since 2009. Owned by a native Orang Sungai lady, Mariati. Have more than 18 years experience in wildlife tour. A frequent traveller myself so keen on sharing everything about a great place called 'KINABATANGAN '. By the way price include meals (local Malay food) as well as basic room with fan /mosquito net. River trip as well as trekking all available upon request :))

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had rented a car in Kota Kinabalu and drove to the east coast of Sabah.
We happened upon Bangkatan Homestay by chance and are so glad we did.
The traditional house owned by Maria and Omie was under renovation at the time of our trip but they kindly welcomed us in to their home for a lovely meal and we went out at 5 a.m the next morning for a 3 hour, wildlife watching tour with the couple. The price of the trip was so reasonable and Maria, who was born in the area and whose family has lived in the village of Sukua for generations, knows all there is to know about the rainforest and local wildlife.
We saw all types of primates and bird life and were just in awe at the rich diversity that this area offers.
Kinabatangan River is truly magical and to find Maria and Omie was an added bonus.
Maria has worked in the tourism industry for many years and speaks perfect english.
She was so interesting to talk to about Malaysia, Borneo and wildlife.
If you are looking for luxury then this is not what you will find but what you will find is a real working home, warm hospitality and an experience you won't forget.
Staying with a real family who have lived in harmony with the rainforest for generations is a special treat.
Our stay here and wildlife watching tour was the most unforgettable experience, (for the best price) in Borneo and we would highly recommend to backpackers and travellers alike!
