Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been staying at the Hotel every 2 years since 1993 and are about to leave Perth for yet another Hockey trip with 16 boys. We have never been disappointed and have watched the business grow under very helpful staff and management.

As hotels go it ticks the basic boxes, but nothing fancy (which probably sums up the town of Sandakan)

The room was clean, however the five flights of stairs without an elevator was a small ordeal with all our luggage. And just after a hike up Mount Kinabalu too!

The hot water pressure was also non-existent with barely a dribble from the shower. I'm not sure if this down to other guests using water or being so high.

If you are looking to book I'd recommend getting a room on a lower floor.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor so that you don't have to haul your luggage up the stairs.

We stayed at this hotel as part of an Intrepid Trip around Borneo. To be honest I could not wait to get out of such a disgusting city.
Our room was located on the 5th floor of the hotel. There are no elevators within the hotel so it meant 5 flights of steps up and down to our room. The rooms and stair well stunk of stale cigarette smell.
The 'mini-bar' water bottles in our room had broken seals, so my thought was that they were refilled with tap water. The legs on our bed were not even which meant for a very rocky sleep. The bathroom was clean, however no toilet paper was in our bathroom.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Really good air conditioning. Room was nice, though bathroom much less so (including numerous ants and combination shower/toilet). The lobby area is more flash than the rooms. Internet reasonably priced and again, it is located in the air conditioned lobby, unlike some of the cafes. Less backpacker feel than others in Lonely Planet, but good budget hotel, not fancy. We paid about 85 RM for a room with a queen bed.
