I stayed here one night on my way to Machu Picchu. Decent location booked via booking.com and said "room with a view" but there were no windows to outside. Room was a bit small. Staff was friendly but room was a bit dirty. You can purchase water downstairs or at local bodega. I don't think my room rate included breakfast but there is a small table where you check in. All in all, the place was okay. I probably wouldn't stay there again if I went back, would probably avoid Aguas Calientes if possible. They sort of force you through there to purchase Machu Picchu tickets unless you purchase well in advance in Cusco.

Stayed here with husband and 9 yo daughter in one room and 2 friends in another room. We all agree this is super budget friendly with clean sheets, hot water, and good location. The building is a little worse for wear. The woman working the front desk works very hard and aims to please. This hotel is priced right.

As a hostel, Waynapata is a safe bet for a stay. We had a room with its own bathroom and a great view over the main square and the mountains - delightful view for what we paid. Our room was quite large with a couple of easy chairs and a coffee table. It was very clean. A good hot shower, but only cold water at the wash basin. A simple continental breakfast was included in the price. The owners were a delight and could not have been more helpful - they carried luggage upstairs and stored it on the day of our departure, among other things. Location was good - very central but tucked away on a side alley so not particularly noisy. Overall very pleased with our stay. Score of 4/5 for a simple hostel.

We had a reservation with Waynapata on August 4th, but when we arrived in Cusco, Peru, on August 3rd, we were informed that due to a strike/protest in the city of Urubamba the road to Ollantaytambo was going to be closed for 48 hours, thus making it impossible for tourists to arrive in Aguas Calientes. We were forced to change dates for our train rides, for the park itself, and were able to do this free of charge since it was public knowledge that the protest was going on. Likewise, we tried to change the dates of our reservation with Waynapata but the hostel was booked for the weekend, so we had to cancel and book somewhere else. So imagine how surprised we were when the hostel insisted on receiving the cancellation fee despite the ongoing public situation. We were very disapointed to realize we were dealing with such insensitive staff, specially when compared to the way all other services were dealing with what was happening.

The Bad: Maybe 2 flights of stairs getting to the hostel, then more depending on the floor you are on.

The Good: The hosts were WONDERFUL people. They helped us sort a couple issues with our MP tickets, helped book our guide, assisted with luggage, etc etc. His wife always called me Mr. Mark, and we loved our time we spent chatting with them. We had 2 rooms, one for my wife and I and one for my sister and mother. As others have mentioned FANTASTIC view of the main square and mountains. Rooms were clean. Hot/warm water for the most part. Affordable.

Conclusion: The stairs were tiring after all the hiking, exploring, runes, etc. But it was worth it. Loved the hosts. Loved Peru. Want to go back!

Tip: The restaurant at the bottom of the stairs was the BEST meal we had while in Peru - Restaurant Indio Feliz. All the restaurants in AC seem to be a cookie cutter of serving everything under the sun. Indo Feliz is run by a frenchman with a smaller select menu. You will probably see him directing his staff and you can tell he takes pride in his establishment. Best meal we had in Peru.

Very bad service. We reserved two rooms Mountain View ahead of time, and once we got there the owner gave us an excuse changing us the rooms… long story short, wasn’t a pleasant experience. And he wanted to charge us more. At the end we took it because was late.

This place is awesome! Great location and view. Yuri, the owner gave us excellent advice and tips for our trip up to Machu Picchu and fantastic restaurant recommendations. He also connected us with an amazing guide for Machu Picchu named “Mario”. Yuri was extremely helpful and a great host.

We stayed a night at hostal Waynapata before going to Machu Pichu. The place is very lovely, with a great view of the main city plaza. The room and bathroom were clean, hot water after waiting a few minutes. The hosts were incredible, giving us many tips about Machu Pichu. We had to take the bus at 4am, and they even prepared a "breakfast box" with food. Definitely recommend this place!

I stayed in the Double Room with Private Bathroom (USD 45/night) for 2 nights in September 2017. Room is spacious, clean and have views of the main square and mountains. Plenty of hot water for the shower. Location is very good, surrounded by many restaurants & shops. It is also near the train station and bus pick up point for Machu Picchu (like 5 minutes walk).
Breakfast is basic though. Just bread, ham, cheese & jam.
Just one thing to note, the property is located up a flight of stairs so it can be tiring if you have been walking all day at Machu Picchu.
Overall, it is great value for the location.
