The Sumaq is a really nice property with great lobby, friendly service and decent restaurant and bar.

Location: It is located not very far from the train station and they offer bell boy service to transfer your bags from and to the train station. The walk from the station to the hotel is all downhill. The buses from MP also stop at the hotel so that you don't have to go all the way back to downtown.

Lobby/ Common Areas: The hotel lobby area is very welcoming and they have multiple couches to hang out. The bar is close by and well-stocked.

Service: The front-desk staff were all very friendly and helpful and we got a warm welcome. They also allowed us late checkout so that we could freshen up after our trip to MP and before boarding our train back.

Restaurant: I have posted a separate review of the restaurant. The food was presented well but the taste was not all that great.

Rooms: The rooms were pretty cramped with multiple beds placed in a small area. The bathroom was also pretty small. Our room was in one of the lower floors, so there was no view from the window. Overall, the room was ok for a 1-night stay but we would have felt claustrophobic if we had to stay longer.

Value: Based on our experience, the prices were too high for the quality of the room but I guess that is the premium we pay for the location in a popular tourist spot.

I was with a tour. Our arrival started with a refreshing glass of ice tea followed by an appetizer. On arriving in the room, there was a little snack and within mintues someone was at the door asking if everything was okay and if there were enough towels. The room was spacious and clean and had a small balcony overlooking the river. Absolutely beautiful! We had supper then lunch the following day. Both meals had a good selection of choices and were delicious. The staff were very accomodating couldn't do enough for the guests.

We only spent one night here sadly set up with our visit to Machu Picchu. We can not fault this hotel. Everything from check in to check out was faultless. We didn’t have dinner which was included and they converted that booking to lunch with a delayed check out allowing us to shower after the morning visit. The lunch was impeccable and fine dining at its best. Juan Marco who served us was fantastic.

Our visit to Aguas Calientes started when we were were met at the station by our guide and a staff member from the Sumaq who carried our luggage as we walked to the hotel. We were made to feel welcome from the start by the friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere - helped by the soothing sound of the nearby river! After our trip to Machu Picchu we had a most relaxing evening with a wonderful meal and great service. A most enjoyable stay indeed - thank you!!

Good hotel and location, good service, food, staff and amenities. Beautiful river view, didn't hear the buses or the trains. Large, relaxing luxury room. Nothing was too much trouble. Our bags collected from the station on arrival, so we could catch the bus to machu piccchu and delivered to the station on departure so we could have a comfortable explore of the town and lunch. Loved the free cookery demo. Pisco sours and cheviche.

Fantastic hotel! Since we arrived there, we felt the warmth, kindness and respect of the staff, they were very attentive to our needs. We were welcomed with a refreshing, sweet drink. The bedroom, with a magic view of the Machu Picchu mountain and the Vilcanota river, was absolutely confortable and warm, with clean and soft beds and pillows. The decorations were also very creative, showing the elegance and mystique of Machu Picchu and Cusco. The bathroom was spacious, with a shower and a jacuzzi. We found drinkable water, cups and an electric kettle with a variety of filtering teas of the region and others. The breakfast buffet had a variety of delicious foods for everyone’s tastes. And our lunch consisted of a six-course meal, every dish was unique, they were all so colorful and delicious. A well deserved 5-star hotel, highly recommended!

After spending our day at the amazing Machu Pichu, the crazy bus ride down the hill and running the rain to the hotel we were welcomed by the amazing team. A welcome drink and snack, very speed and easy check in service and we were in our room. We had a river view room on the 3rd floor which was beautifully presented and really clean. Amazing hot showers and fluffy towels were just what we needed. Our package included dinner and we were extremely well looked after by Juan. We opted for the trout ceviche for the entree, my husband had the roasted trout and I had the beef ravioli. We are not usually desert people but we did see another couples chocolate fondant so we shared that and were not disappointed. Juan is such an obliging and knowledgeable person it seemed he just wanted to make our experience the best it could be. Breakfast the next day did not disappoint, I couldn't resist the French toast with maple syrup, everything else looked wonderful also. Highly recommended this beautiful boutique hotel.

As I organize trips to Cuzco and Machu Picchu 4 or 5 times a year, I always do a due diligence by visiting the hotels first.

I have been using the Sumaq hotel for more than one reason; quality of services, spacious and well decorated rooms and the service at check-in and check-out.

Usually I prefer to have the meals at the hotel, rather than at the hotel by the ruins. I particular do not like a buffet lunch prepared for hundreds of visitors, but I rather select meal from the menu.

Take it from a professional, I strongly recommend Sumaq Hotel in the quaint village of Aguas Calientes, located at the bottom of the Citadel of Machu Picchu.

Rosa, the administrator runs a perfect organization where service is a number one priority for all their clients.

A good hotel set by the river in Machu Picchu village. The staff were helpful and welcoming. Our room was well equipped with a great shower and bath. Probably a little old fashioned in style so not for those wanting a more modern, boutique experience. The dining room staff were attentive and the food at dinner was adequate although rather mainstream with not much choice. Only one wine was offered by the glass which was expensive and not very good. It is rated as a 5 star hotel which I feel is a little high. A nice stay over all though.

They do not have air condition but they will provide you with a standing fan if needed. They believe in being “green” to help with the environment. We thought we would have a problem as well but it ended up being really fine as we were next to mountains so it was pretty cool. Also we didn’t even open the windows because they told us the mosquitoes there are pretty bad but everything worked out fine no complaints
