MPS Village is a bit out of town on a pretty rough track and in the dark it is easy to miss it. We arrived in the dark and were the only visitors for the night.
This is more of a holiday camp than a hotel and would suit families who do not want to spend too much. The two nights we had there including breakfast and one evening meal came to RS13300. That is only approx A$135.
We had chosen one of their "Superior" rooms. This was quite basic but had a lovely verandah looking out on the lake. It rained a lot while we were there but still the people were very friendly and we had a lovely welcome drink when we arrived and they tried very hard to please. A couple of important points.
1. They only take cash, which we were aware of, so make sure you have enough rupees on you for the bill.
2. They, like many Sri Lankan properties, have no liquor licence. They are happy for you to provide your own and will pop it in the refrigerator for you but remember to buy some alcohol before you get there.
This was really budget accomodation so if that is what you are looking for you will get good value. Do not expect any frills.
The food was really very good as it was all over Sri Lanka, especially if you like spicy food and lots of fish.

When you arrive at MPS village you immediately realise that you have arrived at a place where owners have placed emphasis on looking after the beautiful natural environment into which the lakefront houses have been placed.

The man made lake and scenic mountain backdrop are soothing and simply magic and all cabins and rooms are facing this view.

Dinner and breakfast was lovely, staff outstanding and after two nights I still wished I did not have to leave..

If you rise early and sit on that little bench, you will know what I mean.

its small but it has a nice pool by a wondefull lake. There are not toiletries in the room but it was clean. The nature around the hotel is fantastic and the lake is full of water lilies and birds. The stuff were realy helpful and the food very good!!

The place was very large.
however the pool was dirty and very unclean.
The rooms were very uncomfortable with thin mattreses and one thin pillow for each bed. we barely got any sleep
THE TOILET WAS A DISASTER BECAUSE THE SHOWER DID NOT WORK, THE WHOLE SHOWER SYSTEM WAS BROKEN
this place needs to be renovated.
Food was the only consolation since it was tasty!

Stayed for two nights with friends and their families. I can give 5 stars for its location. It was Beautiful, peaceful, and tranquilizing. Loved it. But the quality of the rooms and the service especially the management is below the average. We stayed in a super standard room, which was the best they offer. The room was big and spacious so was the bathroom. It had all the essential amenities, but unfortunately, most of them were not in working condition. Even though there was a tv it wasn’t working properly as the satellite bill want being paid. Got hot water only for one time and didn’t work afterwards. Tea coffee essentials were never being refilled. No house keeping service. Lighting was so poor. The rain shower didn’t work. Cleanliness of the bathroom was poor. However the most drastic incident of the whole stay was that we found a rat in our room. It was there in both of the nights. First time we saw it, we complained the management, but they scarcely responded. Since the entire super standard rooms were occupied and only the standard rooms were available, and according to our friends the condition of those rooms were worse we didn’t request for a different room. Anyway that was disgusting and quite a hygienic issue. Food was ok and the quality was fluctuating but worth for what you pay. The pool was dirty and filthy on the first day, but it was cleaned to some extent on the second day. This could have been one of the worst vacations if we didn’t have the company of our friends. Honestly this could have been a wonderful place with proper maintenance, better management and steady service. Anyway I shouldn’t forget to mention that even though we booked 6 rooms, there were only 5 families at the end and they were so generous to charge only for 5 rooms. That must be truly appreciated they deserve these 3 stars for that.

I chose to stay at this hotel as it's near a few of the attractions around Dambulla that I wanted to visit. I arrived at the hotel after a few hours on the road and received a very warm welcome from the owner. The hotel is situated in the countryside next to a lake, and has a really nice swimming pool area and very well kept gardens, so all in all a very peaceful setting to relax in. The room itself was very big with a good sized terrace looking out over the lake. The aircon was great and the room also had a fridge, which was useful for keeping drinks cold. There was no wi-fi in the room but the public areas did have it. The shower was also excellent. I had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were very good. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Booked this hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor - must have stayed in the hotel in a parallel world because it was just awful. Worst hotel i stayed in in Sri Lanka BY FAR! Check in was a nightmare - they couldn't find my booking details then wanted to charge me for the phone calls they had to make to sort it out!!! Left me sit there for an hour and then when they finally sorted it out they had the cheek to check in 2 other sets of people who had just arrived and left me stand there for another 10 minutes - Just infuriating. I tried to put all that behind me but then when i got to the so called 'deluxe' room it was just awful - EVERYTHING was dripping with water- walls, ceiling, curtains (the white drapes were black!) Could blame it on the weather but stayed in 2 other hotels in the area and they were both spotless. Was so disappointed with staff service.Very slow and approximate service. poor buffet.
Bedrooms are not clean, and not comfortable.
Very poor lighting all over the hotel (may be part of the green politic!).
No service at the bar in the afternoon, or around the swimming pool. Anyway, avoid that place in the afternoon if you don't want to be attacked by really aggressive monkeys!

Reference to the comments you have written in the Trip Adviser, I would like to inform you that your comments do not tally with our hotel. Number.one, We do not have a bar, if a gust brings his own Liquor we give him, her or them a service without a extra charge, in the hotel trade we call it corkage. Reference to monkeys, the hotel would be happy to have a few of them to entertain our guests, unfortunately we do not have any monkeys in the property, I therefore feel you were in a hotel in Dambulla, but not in our hotel. I would appreciate it very much if you would rectify this matter. My staff and myself would be very happy to welcome you to our hotel and offer you our personalized service. Wishing you and your family a beautiful day. I remain yours Sincerely

Nice area in the nature by the lake but far from the city.
The room was very average, not very clean. There were ants and lizards in the room.

The food was good but very expensive compare to the place.
Each time you ask for something they said "it will take half an hour or an hour because we have to cook it".

I will not recommend this place because it was too expensive for the room we had, far away so no option for other restaurants. If I come back I would take a hotel in Dambulla.

After reading comments from other people I think we just had a bad experience, we only stayed for 1 night. Rooms were comfortable, clean. Dinner was good, was unable to have breakfast has it wasn't ready in time and we had a long day ahead of us so we had to leave by 7.30am.

This was my second stay at MPS Village returning after having really enjoyed my first stay in January 2014. The hotel comprises of a block of four rooms (two downstairs and two up) and a number of "chalet" type rooms. The hotel is quiet and very relaxing with all the rooms having their own outdoor balconies that overlook the lovely gardens and lake. The pool area is neat and very attractively laid out.

The hotel is a little distance from Dambulla but it is very easy to hire local transport and the reception desk is happy to assist. As I like to walk this is not a problem for me and the seclusion and quiet is, in fact, exactly what I look for.

The room that I have used (ground floor in the block of four) is spacious and always been well presented and kept beautifully clean. At Safe, 'fridge, TV, free WiFi, tea making facilities, hairdryer and iron were all provided in my room. Yes, there were a few insects etc. but nothing more than you would expect in a rural setting such as this.

The helpfulness, friendliness and service provided by the staff cannot be faulted. Always smiling faces and happy to assist whenever asked.

The main restaurant is located on the first floor with a small balcony area, again overlooking the gardens and lake, making it a lovely area to enjoy your meals. Whilst the restaurant menu is a little limited what is provided is always beautifully presented, hot and very tasty.

Will definitely visit this hotel again as it is so relaxing and makes a great base for exploring the many attractions in the area.
