A super small hotel that has lots of lovely facilities, really super staff, a pool and a chef that is quite exceptional. Rooms are airily light and slightly europeanised but are very clean with very high quality bathrooms. The restaurant is glass box like and perhaps could have better floor level lighting or candles on tables to make it a...

We only stayed 1 night at Arika, using it as a stopover so we could visit places in the cultural triangle. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was so comfy we had the best night sleep so far! Waking up to monkeys playing in the trees outside the balcony - what's not to love?! Good pool, nice to feel...

We stayed at Arika Villa 6 nights as a base for local exploration. Unfortunately, the weather was rainy for 2 days; fortunately we were at Arika Villa. We stayed in room 108 which has a balcony overlooking a popular stream- popular with a few locals for collecting water, bathing and/ or washing clothes; popular with troops of monkeys cavorting in...

The room was lovely - well-furnished and comfortable - and the bathroom was huge. The shower in the bathroom is high-ceilinged and open air, I think, up top, because we had pigeons in ours way up in the rafters. It wasn't that big a deal, except for finding some feathers in our shower in the morning. However, the open air...

Whenever possible we book a small, boutique hotel, these are generally more personal and attentive than their larger brothers. Arika Villa seemed to fit the bill. Nestled in a small valley approx 5 mins from Dambulla, Arika is ideally situated for visiting the local attractions, Sigiriya Rock, the Nature Parks and others. We opted for the spacious deluxe room which...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Deviating from the long scenic route of the A9 road which connects Matale and Dambulla, one comes across a path surrounded by a wild, lush natural forest leading to one of the most unique and secluded getaway spots in the serenity of rural Sri Lanka. The Arika Luxury Villa, evocatively named after the intricate water lily; is located in a heavily landscaped area at the confluence where the stream meets the local river. With a part of the hotel facing the stream and merging with the tranquility of the natural surroundings, its strategic position in the remarkable location highlights its environmentally friendly ethos and makes it the perfect private hideaway. The alluring aura subtly brings you to an inviting stairway which leads to an age-old door from the culturally rich city of Jaffna; embedded on the seemingly raw, but environmentally friendly, brick wall which holds the key to your luxury stay within. Following the concept of the water lily; after which the hotel is named after; Arika is a complex two-floored architectural marvel that is built around an indoor swimming pool overlooking the passing stream beyond the open deck. The hotel boasts of facilities such as a glass-walled multi-cuisine restaurant to enhance a welcoming feel and a steam room for relaxation. Having avoided damage to the surrounding environment as much as possible, the hotel also has a local Karandha tree indoors emerging from the courtyard. Most of the furniture is purely cement based thus giving it a natural perspective. Going along the lines of a green concept; solar panels are used for water heating and recyclable materials for other aspects, thus making it a seamless eco-friendly experience. Yes ... Arika prides itself as the perfect secret escape for those who seek pure tranquillity. ... more   less
