7.94070°, 80.99947° Siyanco Holiday Resort is centrally located, with access to the new town to the south and major cultural sites to the north. Despite the 2019 bombings and the COVID lockdown, this hotel has invested in the future of tourism. It offers rooms with renovated bathrooms and, above all, clean rooms: an example to all hotels in Sri Lanka that cleaning is not expensive and a good sign of hospitality. Not a good sign of hospitality was the owner’s offer to buy the hotel. That sends the wrong signal.

In March 2024, our room 401 (2F) was in the building surrounding the swimming pool. Rooms with a lower number were in the building next to the restaurant. Our room had good air-conditioning and television. The ceiling fan was out of order. Laundry service was available and we enjoyed the pool in the afternoon sun. The restaurant served a limited but good quality buffet breakfast. Wi-Fi reception in the room was intermittent.

Siyanco Holiday Resort offers renovated and clean rooms. Recommended.

Pretty basic hotel, but it was clean and comfortable.

Didn’t use the swimming pool, but my friends who did, said it was lovely and warm.

Breakfast was adequate.

Convenience stores and restaurants are within walking distance.

I was in the new block, but there was no wifi once you were inside your room.

Stayed here for one night. The rooms are clean and the food is good. A very convenient place to base in to visit the ruins.

I had a fantastic experience at this hotel in the Polonnaruwa area during my two-night stay. Everything about it exceeded my expectations.

First and foremost, the cleanliness and comfort of the accommodations were outstanding. It's always reassuring to find a well-maintained and cozy place to rest during a trip.

The highlight for me, though, was the food and the level of service provided by the staff. The dining experience was excellent, with a variety of delicious options to choose from. The attentive and friendly staff made the stay even more enjoyable. Their service was top-notch and added to the overall positive impression.

The location of the hotel is indeed a major advantage. Being situated in the heart of Polonnaruwa, it offers easy access to the main road and the beautiful Parakrama Lake. This central location made it convenient for us to explore the area and enjoy the nearby attractions.

I can't find any flaws to report from my stay, and I left with the intention of returning in the future. This hotel left a lasting positive impression, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Polonnaruwa area. It's a true gem!

Really fed up after looking at the excessive prices and poor facilities offered by the Polonnaruwa Rest House (Government run), we despaired of finding a decent place to stay at affordable prices. This hotel is not in The Lonely Planet but should be. We followed TLP's guide to The Lake View Inn (really small, and TLP's review is probably accurate!), and, at the end of the road, bright, white, sparkly, and with tinted windows, is Siyanco.

It's so new it isn't yet on the Google Earth photos. You follow the signs to Archeological Museum. At the crossroads with the Buddha you head toward the museum and the enormous Polonnaruwa Tank, and take the first road on the left past the ATM. If you get to the Gajabba Hotel you've missed the road!

Now I don't get "Holiday Resort" as part of the title. Let's be fair, it's a good standard budget hotel with well above average facilities. As always the room rate is negotiable, but only down to 3,500 rupees for a triple room provided the aircon was switched off! Breakfast included, dinner extra.

The rooms are excellent. No view from ours, but that didn't matter at all, we were there for the ruins, not the view! Dinner was the very best rice and curry we had in Sri Lanka! And we had a great natter over dinner with the manager. He's really fed up that the war isn't over and that guests are few and far between at present. We agree. Sri Lanka deserves more tourists. Ideally independent travellers, not coach parties.

Breakfast was unique! Perfect eggs! If you've not travelled in Sri Lanka you will not understand the height of luxury this was!

Watch out for ice rink slippery floors if coming out of the shower wet! But, seriously, that was the only minor issue we found. No website yet, but one is coming soon, says the manager. in Sri Lankan terms that probably means December!

My husband & I stayed one night. They gave free accommodation & food for the driver, which is really good. Our room And bathroom was pleasantly clean. Entrance from the Main road to premisses looked little bit odd for a Hotel. But inside the hotel was good & no noise. Our room had A/c and bathroom equipped with hot water. We had dinner & breakfast which was very good. Staff was very pleasant.
This hotel is closer to the Bendiwewa & Some ruins including palace of King Parakramabahu. It's just few min of walking distance. Strolling along the canal is very pleasant enjoying all the local activity and movement of water.

Hotel is located close to the ancient city just off the Habarana Road - if travelling by bus ask to be dropped off at "the old town" and its 100 metres away. It appears to have been recently extended with a new accommodation block and swimming pool - very welcome after a day of ruins. We stayed in the original block and although the room was adequate in size, a/c and bath facilities it lacked a TV. Restaurant came recommended and the food was good quality and plentiful. The 3-course special is recommended. The problem was that the kitchen / service struggled to cope with the number of diners even though the hotel was by no means full. This may in part be due to too extensive a choice of dishes, but a lack of staff/waiters was evident. This inattention to detail was also apparent in the service at reception and there was a rather functional approach which made the experience rather impersonal and complacent. Bikes are available for hire. Late afternoon ritual (taped?) chanting drifts over from local Buddhist temple.

To gain entry to the main area of ruins you have to purchase a ticket at the museum - a hefty $25. Although spread out over a wide area which makes cycling appealing, this can lead to a loss of details and atmosphere gained by simply wandering around the buildings and temples. If you have the time and can stand the heat, walking has its benefits. Strongly recommended is to take a pair of socks for entering areas where footwear has to be removed as the rock gets hot! Hiring bikes and exploring the surrounding roads and lanes can be rewarding, but the embankment along the lake is exposed and little shade is available. Traffic is less frenetic here than in other areas of the country!
