We didn't book our stay in Polonnaruwa rest but found the owner of this guesthouse in the Center of the town and he took us to his place by tuktuk for free. The room was clean and comfortable, though the hot water was not working. The view is nice and it is very quiet. Breakfast was tasty and traditional and...

We stopped by for lunch and the food was a real Sri Lankan rice & curry. Even though it was a buffet, it was a Sri Lankan meal so don't expect anything else. If you enjoy Sri Lankan food, this is the place to go. A tad too expensive though, but the view from the restaurant was the lake which...

The Resthouse has beautiful views of the lake and a tremendous location to explore Polonnaruwa, but the service is bad. We booked a room only to arrive at the Resthouse and be sent to one of two rooms without a lake view. The room had a terrible mildew smell and seems like it hadn't been occupied in quite some time....

The plus point of this rest house is the location and the view. The food was not the same quality as other rest houses. The serving staff lacked training. There were food scraps all around the table and we had to request for everything from napkins to clean water glasses. No attempt was made to clean the table matts or...

This is a place I keep coming back to, time and again, simply because of the wonderful location. Situated on the banks of the ancient lake, Parakrama Samudraya, the lake house has the best of locations in Polonnaruwa. Locality - Located wIthin walking distance to the historic city of Polonnaruwa (one of the numerous UNESCO world heritage sites in Sri...

If I ever get back to Polonnaruwa we will definitely stay there. Not only is it a great quality hotel but it is a fabulous location. On one side the common patios extend out into the lake making it a great place to sit and cool off. On the other side it is a short walk to both the museum...

What do you get if you put some beds in a miserable sixties concrete car park? Answer: this hotel. Oh dear, the staff were nice and tried hard, but this is an utterly soulless place where nothing quite worked. If they want to charge top prices, they need to do a lot better. The electricity in our room failed soon...

The Polonnaruwa Rest House was originally built by the British as a way-stop for the "Raj" when on tour around the country. Queen Elisabeth 2 visited here when she came to Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon) in 1954. I think there is still a photo of her visit hung in an old photo frame near the entrance. It is...
