This hotel may not be for everyone, but this was my third visit over the years and I loved it. You won't find deluxe accommodation but you will find a unique place to stay that's more like an English boarding house than anything else. Virtually unchanged since my first visit in 1975, it's still charming. Rooms and fixtures are adequate...

An island in noisy Kolkatta, quiet and Cosmopolitan, a place to come back to.. Confortable and clean although quite old fashioned – most people like it that way. Wonderful rooms (better in 2on floor!). Reception desk service could be better, however and the price is just a little too high considering place, sorroundings and state of repair. With a little...

Fantastic Hotel to explore this very important Indian mega-city. Staff is kind and helpful. For urban explorers this is a very god place to start. Free Wifi is great and the food is recommended. Interestingly Park Street is right around the corner. And the best museum. Within walking distance.

I visited The Fairlawn as I understood it was a little colonial gem. Whilst I waited for my friends to join me I wasn't allowed the Wi-Fi code so I couldn't communicate with my friends to see that they were running late. Unfortunately this beer garden no longer sells beer and when I asked for a tea instead they said...

I completely agree with the reviews below from UK visitors. this hotel is on his way out! I like heritage hotels ( we have been in very nice ones) but this is not well maintained at all! bathrooms are in real need of renovation. In our bedroom one window was not closing ( on an external terrace) they could not...

I wanted a Heritage hotel, this was not quite what I expected, but I enjoyed my 3 nights there. It is a faded beauty with a quirkiness about it. The staff was friend for the most part, management was so so. The palms all around the house were tended to daily as was the old house, dusting and polishing on...

We spent three nights here. The hotel is full of history and well located near all the main sites of Calcutta. The bedrooms are comfortable and functional. Sure some people will think they need updating, but we liked the faded charm. The public rooms are nice, with lots of interesting items on the walls. The beer garden was a relaxing...

Did not stay because booking was not avaialable on the usual websites. We visited twice today. Saw some rooms which are badly in need of updating. One can only imagine how it might have been when Vi was alive. Now it is looking extremely shabby and uncared for. Staff were welcoming and friendly but not particularly helpful. We had coffee...

Once the most famous hotel in the city. Today it is an “endangered species”. If compared to the standard hotel chains, it impressed us with the charm of a colonial guesthouse. The decorum is antiquish, lovingly collected. It is privately owned and the owners, two sisters, born before India`s independence, demonstrate their faithfulness to the British Crown in every corner...

My second business trip to Kolkata in two months and I was determined to stay in an 'authentic' Calcutta hotel the old part of town. After checking out a few places on TripAdvisor, I settled in on this property and booked it online by sending them an email. The mail was replied to promptly and voila I had secured a...
