I had a look of many foreigners reviews on this hotel, I think they need to know some tricks about it. Our family has been stayed in this hotel for the past 3 years every time we visited Shanghai. It is a very central located hotel in Shanghai, with a lot of very nice shops around it, if you want...

The choices during the Chinese national day celebrations were limited and the prices ridiculously overpriced. I was lucky to get this hotel at normal rates by booking in advance. Its a very simple hotel but it was clean and tidy the floors you could walk barefoot. The room was small but the toilet was OK maybe a tacky because the...

Stayed here in January because the old Shimen Rd Hanting had closed down. It's a cheap place, so didn't expect much, but when the temperature dropped to below zero outside I had to get under blankets the room was so poorly heated. Further to that, half the time I showered the water was not warm either. Not pleasant! Wifi? What...

booked online and paid CNY 300 for a night's stay, no breakfast included. Staff doesn't speak any English despite Shanghai being an international city. Got a room on the 3rd (top) floor. The floor passage was disgustingly dirty and stinky and smelled of cigarettes, as if it the carpet has never been vacuumed. I had a bit of a cough...

Stayed here with friends for the weekend of the Formula 1. It's a pretty OK place, nothing too great. It's very conveniently located, being only a couple minutes walk from Subway line 2. It has a free breakfast and Wi-Fi but the latter was very unreliable. The staff seemed pretty disinterested, and the shower was visible through a barely covered...

I booked 10 nights -- and came back last night to my room missing my passport, bag, and neckties. The room was completely empty, like no one knew I was staying there 10 nights. The front desk said gruffly, "there's nothing I can do!" "Standing here won't solve your problems!" I now have to miss a flight, spend 5 days...

We stayed in a triple room, which was okay; beds were fine, although the covers were clean there were a few holes. Walls were pretty thin and could hear the other people. The bathroom was nice, apart from a window where the shower was which you could see straight through! Staff were unprofessional, not particularly helpful and rude. We arrived...

Its one of the best located hotels in the price range and hence I booked it. What came as a shock when I realised the rooms did not have any windows. The room was dank and smelly, but thankfully not as bad as some of the other hotels I have stayed in. I think the walls were made of cardboard...

We chose the room without window, and I didn't imagine it would have been so awful. During the reservation I asked for two non-smoking rooms, but we discovered that in the whole hotel it's possible to smoke: the smell was terrible. The room was very dark, one light didn't even work. Wallpaper was a bit dirty. In my room there...

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
