I stayed in the luxury room (240 yuan with hostel membership card), which was very spacious with the livingroom area with couch. Bathroom was clean and very modern. AC, A big plant which I liked the most, writing desk, hair dryer, tea pot, etc. They seemed to clean the room everyday, and provided one small roll of toilet paper a day, but didn't empty the trash baskets, didnt replace the used towel, which was OK for me anyway. Not bad, but not luxury either, as there were spots where you can find mould and painting falling off. Coin operated washing machine and drier, to my surprise not a mandate facility in China hostels, was very useful. 10 yuan per load. You can buy small amount of detergent in the first floor (2 yuan). Location was a bit on the smelly backside, but still very central. In the night, you might might encounter some strange (but not dangerous) people around that area, just a gentle note to solo female travelers.

We stayed in the dormroom on the 5th floor. We had a very mixed experience in this hostel. I'll sum it up below:
positive: hostel looks very nice, plenty of room to sit and relax, pooltable, dvd-room, good showers, good food, good wifi, very nice beds (for Chinese standards), powerful aircon in the room, lockers, nightguard, excellent location.
negative: dirty bathrooms, overall not very clean, rude and unhelpful staff, almost no atmosphere.
It's really strange this hostel won a Hostelworld Cleanliness Award in April 2012, because the shared bathroom on the 5th floor was very dirty. Hairs everywhere, mold and slime in the corners of the showers, dirty towels laying around for days and days... Maybe they stopped cleaning after they got that award? The dormroom was pretty dusty, but the linen was very clean and the beds are quite new.
The staff was terrible though. Especially the lady at the reception, she was rude, uninterested and didn't want to spend one second longer than necessary talking to us. They were constantly playing with their mobile phones. They forgot our order twice because one of them was sleeping and the other was totally hypnotized by her phone.
The common room is full of people staring at screens, either their laptops, smartphones or the tv. This was kinda sad and I never experienced it this bad (I've been to dozens of hostels over the past couple of months). The only place where you could talk to some other people was outside with the smokers...
But, I would stay here again and I would recommend it, just because it's affordable, the sleep quality is good and the location is excellent.

This is the worst hostel I’ve stayed in so far, but it’s not a terrible place at all. I personally value the people and atmosphere at the place the highest and that’s why I would prefer not to stay here again.
The staff was not very good in english for the most part, and some of them seemed as if they were either mad or scared when you asked of help from them. Often you’d get the help but they’d almost never smile. All of them quite silent.
Also, it seems like some of the people who stayed there used the place as their home permanently. In general, it was mostly chinese people who lived there.
The atmosphere was pretty bad for socializing. Most people in the common areas would sit alone on their phones.
The hostel seemed fairly empty when we stayed there but we were still put in a crammed 6-bed dorm on the top floor. A shared dorm with a chinese girl amongst others, and she would always turn on the lights while we were sleeping and wouldn’t turn them off.
The facilities were pretty good in general tho. Nice showers and clean beds.

The receptionist in this hostel is kinda rude. She shows how she distort her face everytime you asked questions and roll her eyes with a smirk after answering one word from your inquiries. I won't be staying here again. Other guests I met at that time has the same experience with the girl receptionist at 8am last Nov. 1, 2019

We stayed in a private room with its own bathroom, which was spacious and comfortable. The included shower shoes were a nice touch. As for the hostel itself, it was really nothing memorable; there wasn't much of a "youth hostel" atmosphere, which was fine with us, but probably a negative for solo backpackers wishing to engage with other travelers on their visit. The location just off Nanjing street was great, making walking as well as subway rides very accessible, but was a little pricier than the average hostel as a result. I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again, but it suited all our needs.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a double room, and we were very satisfied with the hostel. The room was spacious and clean and the bathroom was clean and with a closed off shower cabin. The room has aircondition, a small desk, a rack with clothes hangers and a chair. The room was cleaned daily.
The breakfast in the café was mediocre and not particularly cheap, but drinks during happy hour and beers at night were cheap.
Hostel send easy directions to find our way there prior to arrival, which made our journey nice and easy.
About 10-15 minute walk to the bund and 2-5 minutes to East Nanjing Road (also nearest metro station).

This place is more or less typical of big Chinese hostels – meaning you have to keep expectations LOW. They do clean the place BUT never thoroughly – meaning the bathrooms would get a bit dirty fast. At least they had enough toilets/showers on various floors that could be used as often Chinese hostels will have only have the bear minimum. HOWEVER, there was no soap at any of the sinks to wash your hands after using the toilet BUT at least the hot water in the showers was usually nice and hot.

I stayed on the third floor where dorm rooms can be an Internet dead zone as they have Wi-Fi receivers on the 2nd and 4th floors BUT not the third. Even then (as I stayed for a week), the Internet seemed unreliable as first I thought it was my VPN also acting up, but in Suzhou/Hangzhou I had much less trouble – so I think it was the underlying Internet here (especially when everyone comes back in the evening).

There is a lounge on the third floor and a kitchen eating area directly below that with a hot water dispenser BUT rarely if ever did I see any mugs or glasses as it seems Chinese usually carry their own thermostats.

If you can’t speak Chinese, the front desk can be reasonably helpful depending on your needs and attitude towards them. They also have booklets with train schedules and things to do on the bookcases.

I never ate at the restaurant here. Around the corner as you come from Nanjing Road, there is a Chinese restaurant where every item is in English with a picture and staff can speak passable English. I ate there on most nights. There are also two bakeries in complexes by or above the metro station along with a supermarket.

The good things about this hostel though would be the location as it’s a very short walk to Nanjing Road and the metro station plus you can walk to the Bund from here – meaning it’s a very convenient place to stay for a few days if your expectations aren’t that high for Chinese hostels and you want convenience.

I stayed at this hostel for 4 nights and stayed in a 6 bed female form. The dorms are small but have everything you need, a comfortable bed, large locker, toilet and hot shower. The hostel does have wifi, however it does not work in the rooms and only really works best downstairs in the lobby area. The location of this hostel could not have been better. Less than a 2 minute walk to the metro on the main shopping street (East Nanjing Road). Also less than a 10 minute walk to people's square the the bund. I felt the price for this hostel was very reasonable and I would for sure stay here again ☺️

Perfect location, 3-minute walk from a metro station, 10-minute walk to the Bund. Rooms were good, not big but clean and the shared bathrooms were clean. Staff staff's service is POOR! overall, I would stay there again!!

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOSTEL. I checked in this hostel on june 18th, put my belongings inside the locker of my dorm and locked it before going out. Returned a few hours later: the locker was still closed but my passport and money were missing. I don't know who stole my stuff, someone from the staff who had the key or a girl from my dorm, anyway, I would not recommend this place.
