We stayed here for one night only after a long flight. The location isn't as bad as others have said, as there are plenty of eats around including a Starbucks. Realistically you wouldn't stay here for the location anyway as there is nothing to see nearby. The room was quite damp, the beds pretty hard and the air con would...

I book this on Expedia and boy was this a bad idea. I arrived and it took me 20 minutes of walking around to find this place from the subway stop. They tried to charge me extra because I was a walk in customer. I had to explain to them that I had already booked with Expedia and that is...

Checked in by completely silent sullen receptionist. room basic but OK. Main road flyover was the view from the window and that was the front of the hotel. Had to get taxi from metro as otherwise a very busy main road to walk along. air con sounded as if it had a spanner in it. If you do find yourself...

The hotel is basic and provides a good location for exploring the city. Room, bathroom and linens were clean and acceptable. Towels were replenished on the second day and housekeeper only left us 2 towels - we had 4 on arrival. Not need to panic just spoke to reception who handed us more towels. The hotel has 2 room main...

I was flying into Shanghai and my flight was delayed by 3 hours. I called the hotel to tell them about my situation and asked if I will be check in late. They said yes. I finally got out of the airport and got to the hotel only to find out they had given my room away and that was...

The hotel is not a bad hotel. Just don't expect 5 stars for this price. We had a clean room with a good shower. The only thing was that the bed is hard and you can feel every spring in the bed. The directions on Google maps and TripAdvisor app are wrong. Follow this: Yellow line Dabaishu station. Take exit...

For one person it's perfect. Just big enough, clean, hot shower. Close to line 3 metro station. Overall great value for money! Cheap washer/dryer downstairs. I spent a lot more for much worse at many other hotels in China. Make sure you get a nonsmoking room.

We paid 100Yuan for the room and stayed there for 3 nights. We had no complaint as the rooms we had are comfortable and clean. All electric sockets are already fixed with universal sockets so we had no worries to charge our gadgets too. Theres a laundry machine downstairs and for 20Yuan you can use both washing and drying and...

Not sure why others complain about this place. Shanghai is an expensive city and at 100 rmb we felt our room without window was a bargain. staff speak some english and most of them are polite. Room size is ok and rooms are clean. Location is outside city center but close to a metro station and you can reach most...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
