Beautifully maintained hotel with lovely grounds offering the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife and birds, and we very much enjoyed walking their forest trail. We also appreciated that the location allowed us to walk or taxi into La Fortuna to explore bars and eateries there. Our deluxe bungalow was outstanding, but unfortunately, as we were in one of the newer ones, any view we might have had of the volcano was totally obscured by the original deluxe bungalows further up the hill.
Reception and bar staff were all very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts, plus the one dinner we had in the bar, were good. However, on one morning we requested breakfast boxes due to an early tour and were horrified to be told there would be an $11 charge for this to include what turned out to be a pathetically small sandwich. The rationale was apparently that the breakfast boxes were catered in and this was the caterer's charge. I'm not sure why the hotel wasn't able to make up its own boxes and can guarantee that the cost of the breakfasts we ate in the hotel far exceeded this sum; the money itself is not significant, but it seems very penny-pinching on the hotel's part to charge for this. Generally, though, a very comfortable stay in a lovely hotel.

Dear CWW190763, Thank you for your detailed review and for sharing your experience with us. We’re glad you enjoyed the beautifully maintained grounds, the variety of wildlife and birds, and the forest trail. It’s wonderful to hear that you found our deluxe bungalow outstanding and appreciated the convenient location for exploring La Fortuna. We’re thrilled our reception and bar staff made you feel welcome and that you enjoyed our breakfasts and your dinner at the bar. Regarding the breakfast boxes, we’d like to clarify that the additional cost is due to the preparation process, which differs from our regular breakfasts. These boxes are typically prepared earlier than usual to accommodate guests with early tours, which requires additional coordination and effort. We understand your concern and will review how we can better communicate this to ensure it feels fair and transparent. We’re delighted that you found your stay comfortable and enjoyed your time at Hotel Lomas del Volcán. We hope to welcome you back for an even better experience in the future!

Hotel Lomas del Volcan is exceptionally situated on lush grounds with stunning views of Arenal volcano and beautiful, lush landscaping. We could have spent our entire vacation walking the paths of the property, where we encountered colorful birds, monkeys in the trees, coatis by our casita, and various beautiful flowers. The entire property is lovingly maintained. Before we even arrived, I had occasion to communicate with the hotel via email regarding transport from the airport and to our next stop in Monteverde as well as inquiries about excursions. In each case, Jocelyn returned my email within a few hours and easily handled the arrangements. So convenient! The transport and excursions turned out to be exactly what we wanted. (Shout-out to Charlie who picked us up at the airport and gave us a wonderful overview of Costa Rican life during our 3 hour ride to the hotel) Dining services were excellent. A plentiful buffet breakfast is included in the price, which offered hot and cold items and some Costa Rican specialties. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious and beautifully presented with native vegetable and fruits. We had lunch and small plates at the open-air bar several times and found it exactly to our taste: good food in a casual atmosphere. The staff at the bar remembered us each day and were friendly and efficient. Best of all, we loved the seclusion of the individual casitas. Two porches: one in the front with table and chairs where we enjoyed Costa Rican coffee included with our room and a porch in the rear with a loveseat overlooking abundant greenery and flowers. The birds loved flitting around here and we loved watching them. Very relaxing. The casitas were clean and comfortably furnished. The bathroom was large and modern. We think this hotel is an exceptional value for the price, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Thank you, Hotel Lomas del Volcan for a wonderful visit.

Total luxury. The best food we’ve had on our trip. The best plumbing fixtures(!). Even the toilet paper is better than the microns thick stuff in other places. Medium size room with 2 queen beds, desk, fridge, counter space near desk, closet with shelves to stick all the stuff that hotels clutter up the surfaces with, one luggage bench at the foot of one of the beds. Good AC and wifi. The room has a back porch with a table and chairs. The desk has a desk light and the electrical sockets are at the top of the desk so you dont have to search around under the desk. There are sockets between the beds at bed height. Large TV. The bathroom is huge with a large walk in rain shower. The hot water comes on quickly, at least it did this morning. The only strange thing is that the safe in the closet is on the floor. The units are spread out so its a bit of a walk to the dining room, but if you dial the front desk, they’ll send a golf cart to take you wherever you need to go on the property. I think there are two pools, jacuzzi and a spa, also. Note: i ran out of hot water in my shower last night. I take shoet showers. The sink still had hot water. Strange. This AM they didnt unlock the door to the dining room quite on time, but the issue is people were standing in the rain waiting. I find that inhospitable. Even if they dont serve the food, they could let guests come out of the rain.

Dear Speckles, Thank you for your detailed review! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed the luxurious touches at Hotel Lomas del Volcán, from the delicious food to the thoughtful room design and amenities. It’s wonderful to know that the rain shower, comfortable beds, and convenient electrical sockets enhanced your stay. We’re also glad you appreciated the back porch, efficient hot water (most of the time), and the availability of golf cart service for getting around the property. We sincerely apologize for the issue with the hot water in your shower last night. While the sink had hot water, we understand how inconvenient it is to run out of hot water during a shower, and we’ll ensure our team investigates and resolves any such inconsistencies promptly. You are right about the wait in the rain outside the dining room. Please rest assured that we’ll implement changes immediately to prevent guests from having to wait in similar situations again. Your feedback is invaluable and helps us improve to provide a better experience for all our guests. Thank you for staying with us, and we look forward to welcoming you back for an even more seamless and luxurious experience!

Disappointing Stay at Lomas del Volcan. We recently spent a few days at Lomas Del Volcan paying over $450 per night. Unfortunately, our experience was far from luxurious, with several issues that made our stay feel more like a three-star hotel.
Issues with Our Stay 1. Unreliable Internet: The internet connection was poor throughout our stay, making it difficult to stay connected. (See attached screenshot.) 2. Lack of Basic Amenities: Despite being told the tap water was safe to drink, our room didn't even have a glass to drink from. 3. Inadequate Bathroom Storage: The bathroom lacked proper storage for our belongings, making it difficult to keep our space organized. 4. No Umbrellas Provided: Given the hotel's location in a rainforest, it was surprising that there were no umbrellas provided in the room or at the reception. 5. Uncomfortable Pillows: The pillows were extremely soft and floppy, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. 6. Subpar Breakfast: The breakfast spread was disappointing, with stale bread that crumbled easily. 7. Limited Transportation Options: The staff only offered us a van, boat, and bus option to travel to Monteverde, but we later discovered that there was a direct road option available.
Positive Aspects Despite the issues, we did appreciate the excellent service from some staff members, particularly Sugey, who kept our room clean and tidy, and the restaurant staff, who were friendly and attentive.
A Stark Contrast We are currently staying at a hotel in Monteverde, Costa Rica, and the difference is staggering. For just $80 per night, we're enjoying a far superior experience. The rooms are cleaner and more comfortable, the beds are firmer and more supportive, the food is fresher and more delicious, and the internet is fast and reliable. It's clear that Lomas needs to reevaluate its priorities and improve to justify its high prices.
Overall, our stay at Lomas Del Volcan was disappointing, considering the high price point. While some staff members provided excellent service, the numerous issues with our stay outweighed the positives.

We had a fantastic time for four nights at Lomas de Volcan.
Every single member of staff we spoke with was exceptionally friendly, polite and helpful. They made us feel relaxed and confident bringing our 10 month old daughter with us and made a great fuss of her.
The service was really attentive and responsive throughout. We asked if someone could take a look at the hot water in our room; a maintenance engineer arrived within 5 minutes. Our stroller got a puncture; the team replaced the inner tube and patched up the old one within the hour.
The rooms were large and well kitted out with a large bathroom and two nice balconies. The gardens were immaculately kept throughout.
The spa was one of the best we have used. Excellent massages in a beautiful setting, listening to the sounds of the rainforest. And the free yoga was a lovely way to start the day.
One of the things that stands out most is that the hotel provides excellent value. Some hotels situated a few minutes away from town really take advantage in terms of pricing. Lomas de Volcan takes the opposite approach and it really pays off. A ride in the hotel taxi is cheaper than them calling one for you; the food and drink was reasonably priced and the portions were huge.

We’re delighted you enjoyed the spacious rooms with their large bathrooms and balconies, as well as our beautifully kept gardens. In reality this property would be a 3.5/5. It was the inconsistency in the service standards and sense of hospitality that lets them down. On a positive note our room was excellent with an incredible view of the Arenal Volcano from the back door. Each cabin has a well maintained garden that was often visited by hummingbirds or the occasional coati. Inside was quite spacious, air conditioned and with a very good bathroom. The cabins were a little too close to each other for my liking though I did not find noise to be a problem. My real complaint is what I would have expected from a property that commands such a price per night. I would have thought that a request for some ice to our room was not an unreasonable. Apparently I needed to walk to the bar as room service dining do not acccamodate this. They will however deliver a meal to your room though note that there is an additional US$5 for this. Dining at the restaurant was overpriced and we found the meals served at the bar more than adequate. Breakfast options were buffet and for us provided enough variety to start our day.

Please accept our sincere apologies for this oversight. We appreciate your understanding regarding the additional charge for room service and are glad that you found the meals at the bar adequate. Beautiful property. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. My only complaint is the breakfast dining. The continental breakfast that is out in the open consistently had flies flying around the fruit and bakery items. The dining room is humid because the enormous windows are open to some extent. We understand this is a tropical environment, but why not place netted coverings over the food so people dont have to have a side of fruitfly with their breakfast.

This is a lovely, beautiful hotel with fabulous staff. From arranging the booking, transport and tours to arriving and enjoying our stay, everything was fantastic. That's not to say we didn't have any problems but these were solved swiftly and courteously by the reservation staff. The staff are polite and friendly and really know their jobs. Little things like towel animals made on the bed after room service, the receptionist letting the tour manager know I wanted to speak with her and receiving a phone call (without me requesting or leaving my room number) to the welcoming morning coffee poured at breakfast and the smiling faces and quick service at the bar made it all extra special. Oh and the massages are pure luxury! The hotel itself is clean, tidy and very pretty with lots of fauna (well done to the groundsmen!). Bed is comfy and the hot tub is divine. Getting around is easy as there's a hotel taxi. La Fortuna town is a taxi ride away (or a long walk) but it's well worth a visit or two. The tours were well organised and it was worth booking the different tours for the different animals. The hanging bridges tour is fantastic for being up high but don't think you'll see all the animals on this one, you do need to book the other tours too. The Ecotermales Hot Springs is bliss, definitely not to be missed. My husband and I loved Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

Arenal/La Fortuna was the last leg of our honeymoon. Perhaps we got spoiled by the incredible and affordable airbnbs in Santa Teresa and at Dominical/Uvita, but we were disappointed by our room at Hotel Lomas Del Volcán.
The lighting makes all the difference! It sounds ridiculous to say, I know. But the rooms have a cold, almost a fluorescent light blue lighting, and it reminded me of something I may have seen in a TV show about a prison. If the lighting was warmer, it would have felt more homey. We saw photos online prior to coming here that looked like there was warm lighting. Not sure if the photos were edited or if our room (607) just ended up being an anomaly. It also sucks the windows don’t open. They also are positioned so that people in adjacent buildings can see right into yours if they’ve got their blinds drawn, or if they’re sitting on their patio. Our room was also very humid; upon arrival, our blankets were cold & damp, and the floor also had a sheen of condensation. The AC unit should always be set to dehumidify.
The grounds are beautiful. Lush greenery everywhere! The dining facility is nice, as it faces the volcano. The pool is also a decent size, and there’s a decent sized covered hot tub. No hot springs. We ended up going to Springs Resort & Spa with their 2-day pass. The included breakfast is actually pretty good; there’s an omelette station and fresh fruits, and the food is buffet style. The staff are incredibly nice. I started my period unexpectedly early, and I called the front desk and talked to a guy, and someone came by to deliver a couple pads to me for free! That was awesome. There’s also a small trail loop that’s a little under a mile. Good for a morning walk. There’s also a spa on site (10am to 6pm) that offers massages, facials, and other treatments. The hotel is also close to many things—La Fortuna on one side, excursions and springs on the other side.
Overall, I just think for the price we are paying, the rooms should feel a little more homey and approachable. I saw that there was some construction going on near the pool; perhaps they are expanding the pool area. But again, for the same price we paid, we could have gone with an Airbnb that was much better looking (and with which we could have gotten our own kitchen and such). Really, the advantage to this hotel was its proximity. But overall a decent place.

Individual lodges set in beautifully kept grounds surrounded by rainforest. Staff were all wonderful and i would like to especially mention Carla at reception and Franklyn driving the buggies. Breakfast was great with a huge choice of food and the meals I had in the bar were lovely and not overly priced as some hotels are. The vodka and tonic at 6 dollars was delicious too! Highly recommend!
