We stayed at Finca Monte Claro with friends and our 3 small children. The home Cristian rented us was beautiful! Historic and with furnishings from France we felt at home immediately and the central location made horseback riding and rafting very accessible from the home base. Cristian gave us a coffee tour, a farm tour and took us horseback riding,...

Warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived, the family that own and run this finca are very dedicated to the concept of a coffee farm that is environmentally sustainable. We stayed in the guesthouse with two lovely rooms (separated by a dividing wall, which gave my teenage daughter some privacy!) and one (large) bath. There is a small kitchen...

We didn't stay at Finca Monte Claro, we only went out for the morning for a horseback ride. Both my mom and I loved it! It was only us and our guide Jorge. Jorge was extremely knowledgable about the farm, the birds, insects, trees and crops. The horses were wonderful, very well behaved and well taken care of. We spent...

The promise of sleeping out in the bosque won out. All the TripAdvisor reviews were impressive, so we booked 2 nights. We ended up leaving after the first night because we just were not comfortable with the ants crawling all over the toilet. The path of leaf cutter ants running next to the kitchen is something we've seen, so not...

Dear Jeff, We are sorry to hear that your night here in finca Monteclaro wasn’t what you where expecting. We did have a problem with the water system, it’s sometimes a bit hard to fix because it comes all the way from the river, its more than 1,200 meters of water pipes. It has been fixed. Here at the finca...

I believed the previous reviews and booked two nights at this place. But we only spent one night at Finca Monteclaro and left running. In one evening there (as two conservative people) we ran out of drinking water and toilet/washing water (kept in separate tanks). In the morning we couldn't flush the toilet, wash our faces or drink. The cooking...

Dear Star We are sorry to hear that your night here in finca Monteclaro wasn’t what you where expecting, we did have a problem with the water the day you arrived and we did everything we could to fix it in the morning, sadly we couldn’t before you left. It’s been fixed; we even bettered the reserve water system to...

This trip was one of the best thing we've done during our time in Costa Rica. The owner is super kind. He speak french, english and spanish so it's easy to understand him. We done horse riding, a coffee tour and rafting. The food was really good. The room was outdoor. We only had a roof over our head and...

My husband, sister, and I visited Finca Moteclara for a horseback tour of the farm followed by canyoning. Christian is an excellent guide as he is very friendly. We learned a lot about growing organic coffee, and agriculture in Costa Rica in general. We had an amazing snack consisting of local fruits midway through the ride. Lunch was prepared by...

Our stay at Finca Monte Claro was great! Sleeping in the Mezzanine resembles camping, except that beds, mosquito nets, a small kitchen, shower and toilet are all provided. The deck on which you sleep has a roof, so shelter is provided if it happens to rain. We went for a hike on the farm lands, lounged on the deck during...

Finca Monte Claro was beyond fabulous. We so enjoyed our stay in the Mezzanine that we hope to be able to return some day. This isn't your average tourist experience which makes it all the better. The farm is a real working farm, growing many, many acres of coffee and sugar cane and with ambitious and admirable plans to transition...

Finca Monte Claro is a great way to experience Costa Rica on a real working farm! “The place is just a one room sleeping platform with about 12 beds but from the looks of it, rarely does anyone actually stay there. It has a roof but the rest of it is open air - which might be a fun idea if done well. Unfortunately this place is sorely neglected by the owners.”

“This is more or less like camping on a porch. It's beautiful and comfortable but don't be alarmed by the sounds of the night and the early morning birds.”

“- This is a real farm, so come prepared to enjoy the company of a variety of friendly animals. - There is no electricity at the mezzanine. We found it helpful to bring a couple of LED headlamps. - Marie and Christian provide breakfast, but they can arrange to get you lunch and dinner. You can also bring your own food. They have a fridge where you can store perishables. - It's easy to get there from Turrialba. We took a bus from San Jose (~ 2 hours). It is a 15 minute cab ride from the Turrialba bus station to Finca Monte Claro.”
