Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

3 nights in a historic coffee Hacienda in beautiful countryside. We would thoroughly recommend the Turrialba hills and specifically La Esperanza as an alternative to some of the more popular destinations. The location, house and gardens are lovely and service excellent. The coffee estate is a special place and we enjoyed coffee cherry picking, coffee tour and tasting, horse back ride and swim in a nearby waterfall as well as a white water raft on the Pacuare river. An extra day would be worthwhile to visit the nearby volcano.

I can only echo what Roza has said. A beautiful oasis of calm and tranquillity up in the coffee plantations. My wife and I absolutely adored our 3 nights here. Felt like being in a traditional Costa Rican family home. All of the staff there were so lovely and couldn't do any more for us. Amazing food and, of course, coffee! We felt spoilt rotten and didn't want to leave!

This stay was the highlight of our Costa Rica trip. The house had so much character and the staff felt like friends. The meals were amazing and served outside looking into the garden with a lit fire pit in the evening. During our stay Willman, Anna and Diego am longer others made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We also took a tour around the coffee farm on horseback which was very worthwhile and educational- we learnt so much about the process of growing and making coffee. The bedrooms were comfortable and well appointed. Our only regret is we only stayed for one night. Highly recommended.

Frankly, I came for the birds. But if you're going to get up early, and hang out when it rains, this is a great place. It's half-way to a B & B, the house has personality -- while the hosts and chef aren't owners per se, they're real people. They joined us for dinner (at our request) which helped bring Costa Rica to life. The views and food were great (they accommodated me being pescatarian) and, from the dining table, as the sun rose -- and again after the rains -- there were birds (and flowers all around. If you want activities, take the coffee tour at Aquiares (reviewed elsewhere), hike to the waterfall (keeping an eye out for white mannikins in the forest), and visit CATIE, the world class research facility down the hill where scientists are trying to figure how to save us from ourselves as the climate changes.

Totalmente recomendable!

One of our favourite places so far in Costa Rica. The house was beautiful, with art relating to the area and with a beautiful garden with many fruits, herbs, and local plants. Wilman and Ana (I hope I spell their names correctly!) were amazing, super attentive and helpful/friendly. Ana cooked our dinner which was one of the best on our trip so far. The coffee here also tastes like coffee is supposed to! We had an amazing time and wish we’d stayed longer. Highly recommend!

La Esperanza is a large single-story house located near the center of Aquiares. Aquiares is a coffee town--virtually all of the people that live there work in the coffee business. The Aquiares coffee company is the largest coffee plantation in Costa Rica and Casa Esperanza is affliated with the coffee company. The attentiveness of our host (Wilman) and chef (Lili) was fantastic. We did have the benefit of being the only guests during the time we were there, but we had a really good time talking with Wilman and eating Lili's food! Breakfasts were phenomenal--food made to order, coffee brewed and poured from a Vandola (Aquiares coffee, of course!) all taken in looking at the beautiful grounds. Casual bird watching is really easy and fun to do at La Esperanza. La Esperanza will also offer dinner if you like as long as you let them know in advance. Wilman arranged a tour at the Aquiares Coffee processing plant and it was very impressive. We have been on several coffee tours that include sugar, chocolate and coffee processes but this one is 100% coffee. The scale of production is quite a bit larger than other tours that we have attended in CR. The tour was fantastic! There is a gift shop at the plant which is a little hard to get to but Wilman can hook you up. The natural process coffee is the best we have tasted in CR!
