Myself and 2 friends were looking for a horsey vacation and found Painted Pony Guest Ranch on the internet. As horse people ourselves we always are concerned about the condition of the horses we will be riding. I couldn't have been happier with the way Kay and Esteban care for and train their horses (and dogs and cats). We were...

I have always felt the best way to see a place is with friends/family who are from there. Kay and Esteban made us feel like we went to stay with some friends in Costa Rica. Kay (an American expat for over 20 years), somehow manages to be concierge, travel agent, chef, riding instructor, guide, cultural liason and mom all in...

Our family of four stayed here for three nights recently. Our teen girls took an amazing horse ride with Esteban. Kay's breakfasts are wonderful and she was a wealth of information about where to go and where to eat. We loved the property, the friendly dogs, the sweet horses, and the wonderful atmosphere. Our villa was perfect for us and...

Kay and Estaban were great hosts and have the most wonderful facility. The horses were lovely and we had the best time relaxing in the back yard around the pool. The food was second to none and we certainly enjoyed the extras such as the Tope, bull riding, and zip line.

We stayed with Kay and Esteban for a week and wanted to combine riding with relaxation and seeing the sights in Costa Rica. Kay put a programme together for us that was ideal. Nothing was too much trouble and arrangements were very fluid if we wanted to change our minds. The food was delicious and we looked forward to what...

Kay and Esteban are the perfect hosts for every horseback rider from novice to the experienced. Esteban is the "horse whisperer" whose love of his horses shows in the respect they have for all riders, and both Kay and Esteban work tirelessly to provide the riding level, length of ride(s) and destinations each rider wants or needs. They are expert...

Hey Guys, Thanks for taking the time to review us. I was a pleasure to have you and your family stay with us and explore the corners of Costa Rica few see. We hope you will come back soon, next time maybe we can see turtles, and not just shells. Fond memories.

My family and I (wife + 2 teenagers) stayed with Kay and Esteban at the Painted Pony for 3 nights earlier in August and from our arrival and invitation to local CR horse fiesta - suggested by Kay - we were over the moon with everything that had been prepared and unfolded over our stay. This place is very special...

We equally enjoyed having you and your family at the ranch. It is wonderful to have people who not only ride, but have a deep respect for horses and horse management. We feel the ranch is an oasis so close to so many wonderful places to ride and convenient to all the popular tourist attraction. We hope you will come...

Our trip was everything we had hoped for: excellent horses, interesting countryside, and great hosts. Kay and Esteban make you feel like family, and Kay is a great cook, too. The house and grounds are lovely, in the midst of beautiful tropical plantings, and being right on a ranch with horses everywhere you look is heaven for a horse person...

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We are a little off the beaten path but close to Tamarindo, Conchal and the other area beaches. We consider the ranch an oasis of tropical trees and plants, with the bonus of monkeys daily passing through the ranch. Come back soon.

“Both the Casita and the house are very nice. The Casita is a cabin where as the house is exactly that. I prefer the Casita as is is cozier and has an inclosed outdoor shower that is covered with a canopy of leaves and fronds. It is a wonderful place to clean off after a day of surfing or horse riding.”
