The house "la casa grande" was great. Also as we were all by ourselves there! The house is very well maintained. The shower was perfect with warm water from the solar panel. The house has a terrific terrace with a great view. The food was excellent. It was healthy and very fresh. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Thomas...

This is one of those trips that.....you just have to go and have the experience, to understand what an amazing place this is and the unbelievable work Hilda, John and staff have done to not only protect the leatherback turtles from poachers, but also to educate the locals about turtle conservation. Before you think seriously about visiting, go on line...

I went with 19 others to learn and help them through Ecology Project International and the ocean was amazing! Leatherback Sea Turtles are so cool! Definitely worth the 9 days down there. I saw all three types of monkeys in their rainforest. The reserve is protected by big people so you are safe.

You must know, this is not a hotel. It is a place to stay, relax, and get involved helping one of our critically endangered animal friends. I went with a group of teachers on a fellowship trip. But you can also go as a family or couple. If you do go during nesting or hatching season here's what you need...

Thank you very much for your review. We are very glad you saw the Leatherback nesting, it is such an unforgettable experience. We hope you come back next year and see the hatchlings and some of the amazing things in the forest. Thank you for coming.

Margarita and I went to Pacuare Reserve principally to see leatherback turtles coming ashore at night to lay their eggs. Our first night, we went out on "patrol" with a volunteer, Irvine, from the team, and within one hour we were witnessing this most moving sight: the enormous creature (nearly 2 metres in length), whose ancestors were probably doing the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Pacuare Nature Reserve is a magical place inside a tropical rainforest with 6kms of beach and next to a fresh water lagoon. We are the most important nesting site in Costa Rica for the giant critical endangered Leatherback turtle. Your adventure will start as soon as you board the boat and go along the Tortuguero canal. The journey usually takes twenty minutes or more depending on the wildlife we find along the river bank. You will stay in Casa Grande, a beautiful timber house built on pillars to give commanding views, from a huge three sided balcony, overlooking sea and lagoon. It has 3 bedrooms. One has a queen size bed & single bed with ensuite half bathroom. On the other end of the house there is a double and a twin bedroom sharing half bathroom. Solar heated shower is on ground floor. Open plan wood panel kitchen, dining and sitting room located between the bedrooms, with big windows front and back. Often you can see monkeys just behind the house. We have no electricity so it is all candles, lamps and solar lamps in certain areas -very low carbon footprint- Romantic candlelit dinners on the balcony! Enjoy the experience of going to bed to the sound of the ocean and waking up to natural light and sounds of the surrounding wildlife. It's incredible. If you feel like it you can patrol the beach at night with our biologists and beach guards and witness the Leatherbacks nesting process, a life changing experience for some... Or protect the hatchlings when they leave their nest and find their way to the sea. ... more   less
