Having never been to the tropics before, I had some reservations about staying in a room without air conditioning. Silly me! We stayed in the VIP "Penthouse" because of the size of our group. It was perfect for us. And the "wake-up" call at 5:30am, courtesy of the local Howler Monkeys, didn't bother any of us at all. The food...

I’m really sorry, we are getting so many Trip Advisor reviews for Tortuga Lodge & Gardens, our sister lodge, Monteverde Lodge & Gardens and our parent company Costa Rica Expeditions, that I don’t have the time to write the personalized response that each one deserves. Everything from beginning to end was top notch. The accommodations, service, activities and staff were all exceptional. Everyone was attentive and professional. The fishing however, was not as represented as there was no snook fishing...only tarpon and the guide's equipment was inadequate. The fishing experience was overpriced for what we received.

We really enjoyed this hideaway in the middle of nature. Our room, although not air conditioned, was kept comfortable by open screens on 3 sides along with a ceiling fan. We spent 2 days and found that perfect. Just enough time to explore the rainforest behind the property, take an excursion on the river, visit the small town and walk...

Glad to be on the second floor. Employees and food were fine. Disappointed that a photo on the website showed a kayak as we never found one to rent. It was a good experience to be boated to the nearby town and assist at the school. The students and teacher were all enthusiastic.

Tortuga Lodge was an amazing experience. We loved everything about it, from the boat ride to the lodge, to the wildlife, to the friendly and competent staff. The guides were passionate and extremely knowledgeable. The rooms were comfortable, no air conditioning, but our room on the upstairs balcony really did not need it. Caution....if you are looking for a place...

We visited for 2 days with two other couples. Arrangements were made working with Priscilla at Costa Rico Expeditions. Everything could not have been more perfect from the boat ride in with Leonardo to the nature tours with Norton. Truly exceptional. Food and service was outstanding. All of the staff are all so friendly and accommodating.

Great arriving by boat and seeing colourful birds on route. Just forget the crowds when getting onto the boat! Well run Hotel with good restaurant overlooking the river. Most bedrooms have front view of river and back view of the beautiful garden. Free bird walk in garden at 7.00am each morning and very informative guide. Very good breakfast and dinner....

This lodge, owned by the upmarket travel company Costa Rica Expeditions, is a very good example of its type. It is nicely designed, spacious and airy, allowing the cool draughts of air to move through the camp and help prevent things from getting too sultry and sticky. The rooms are pleasant - ours was an upstairs room with two large...

We stayed in the 'penthouse' which is a huge room with 2 bathrooms and private balconies, on all sides. It was super comfortable and airy. Generally found the food good quality, particularly the fish in the evening, which was always perfectly cooked. Service is a little haphazard. This is not the fault of the waiters who seemed to try really...

Dear Wanda S, Thank you your feedback. I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay in the Penthouse. You're right about the wait staff needing more training, we're working on that and it's one of our top priorities for this season. We have some really wonderful people in the dining room, but they are shy and learning. Our training...

We found the Tortuga Lodge and Gardens (27 rooms in six out-buildings) to be a special place in this area. It is located on the Tortuguero River across from the airport (don't worry about noise; only 2-3 small aircraft landings each day) and a 5 minute boat ride from the village. All rooms have a covered sitting area in front...
