This is a tourist class hotel, rooms are basic accommodations, but perfect because your time on a Costa Rican adventure is not spent in the hotel room except to sleep. Make sure you do your research on what areas you will be visiting. In Tortuguero you are in the Costa Rican Jungle and the only way to the hotel is... More

We visited with an EF Tour group of about 20 recently May 2016. The owner (Veronica), cooks and Ground Keeper (Jose) were exceptional in making us feel like we were home. I truly appreciated the experience and the students did as well. The food was authentic Costan Rican cuisine made with Love. The hotel is not a Ritz, Marriott or... More

First off, this is not a Ritz Carlton. This is a small, family-owned and operated resort in the middle of the jungle. Because of this, there are going to be aspects of this resort that some will find objectionable. I took 9 students here and there was never one complaint. The rooms are concrete, but all construction here is. Wood... More

We visited with an EF group. The owners don't take more than one group at a time so we had the place to ourselves; 26 people in a resort that could easily handle double. The accommodations are what I would call basic plus. You have everything you should have for an eco experience. The pool and great food are a... More

I brought a group of students there through EF tours and I was nervous based on the past reviews on this site. However, I am so glad we went. Eduardo and Veronika were like family to us - they took care of all the students as if they were their own. A few girls had tummy troubles from the travel... More

This place was amazing. You really feel like you're right in the jungle. The rooms were modest and the food was great. What truly makes this place special is the family that runs it. Eduardo and his family are so hospitable and truly welcoming. I loved being there and would love to return in five years give or take, to... More

I stayed at Ilan Ilan for 2 nights with a tour group and didn't want to leave! The beds were very comfortable. I slept amazingly and woke up to the beautiful sounds of nature, including toucans and howler monkeys. The pool was great and the grounds were beautiful. The Ilan Ilan trees on the property smelled amazing after it rained.... More

I loved staying here. The staff were amazing, Richie went above and beyond his job to help all the guests. Rouss and the other staff were amazing as well. The food was really good, I enjoyed the hammocks and the pool.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We hope you will enjoy it with us. We start our adventure from San Jose at the National Theater, built in 1897 and considered to be one of the most beautiful theaters in Latin America. On our way out from the Central Valley, we pass through the Braulio Carrillo National Park. Its landscape is entirely made of high mountains covered by thick forest and deep, fast flowing rivers forming deep canyons. After a technical stop at the cafeteria and a visit to the banana plantation, we'll start the best part of the trip: we will depart to TORTUGUERO aboard small tourist boats specifically designed to travel through the canals. During 70 km of rivers, canals rivers and and lagoons traveling by boat you will enjoy the diversity in flora & fauna in its natural environment. Tortuguero National Park is located on the Northern Caribbean slope of the country. A navigable network of lakes and canals running parallel to the coast crosses Tortuguero from southeast to northwest. This allows the great variety of flora & fauna of the region to be close at hand. Tortuguero is the most important nesting area for the green turtles Chelonia mydas which come every year to lay their eggs along this coast.Tortuguero has one of the heaviest rainfalls in the country (between 5000 to 6000 mm a year) and it is one of the wilderness areas with the greatest biological diversity. Today, 11 habitats have been identified in the Park, alone. The fauna is also rich and abundant, and easy to find: monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, iguanas, turtles (rivers and sea turtlessss), parrots, toucans,Blue-jeans Frog or Strawberry Poison-dart Frog (Dendrobates pumilio) Spanish name: Ranita roja, Gaspar Fish a living fosil, manaties and much more. ... more   less
