We came to Mawamba on a 2 night package. The trip up the river to get to the lodge was one of the highlights. Anselmo, our guide for the whole stay, was excellent and extremely knowledgeable, with a good sense of humour. Our room was simple but ok as we didn't spend much time in it. There is a large...

We had decided to stay here 3 nights instead of the classic 2-nights stay becouse we wanted to overkomen our jetlag after flying from Europe. It was not the best idea we have had on this trip. The lodge is nice, the food is ok and the staff friendly enough, but the proposed program is really cut out for a...

The Mawamba bus transported a group of us from Guapiles to La Pavano. At La Pavona, the Mawamba boat transported us on a one hour picturesque ride through the canals to the Lodge. The only way of getting to Tortuguero is by boat or plane. Of all the different lodges in the area, we selected Mawamba because it was on...

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel consists of small rustic type lodges with a terrace and a hammock. The rooms are set among trees and the scenary idyllic. The staff are friendly and helpful. The gardens are lovely and there is a butterfly garden, frog garden and lots of exotic plants. The only thing I could fault really was that the waiters snatched...

We were here for 2 nights in January. Nice grounds, beautiful pool. Clean. Staff were wonderful and extremely helpful. Rooms are a bit dark with just one light in the middle. No A/C. We knew this, and were told that nobody in Tortuguero had A/C. Would have been happy to pay extra to have it as it is extremely hot...

The entire package from San Jose there and back was beautifully planned and implemented. The Lodge itself is filled with people from all over the world. Our guide Frank Simms was simply instrumental in our enjoying the Lodge and tours completely. The grounds are beautiful, the pool just right for a dip, if not laps, and the food very good....

Just loved it, brilliant place, loved pretty much every thing about it! The rain was a little challenging for some of our party, but for me it added to the whole experience. the relaxed feel to the whole place mirrored our mood. Brilliant!

We stayed a couple of nights here after flying in tiny plane from St Jose. Our room was a superior ,was glad as others we spoke to there had even more basic rooms. It rained a lot but umbrellas provided which was great . We also bought ponchos, which kept rain off on boat trips. Food was basic but ok,...

Nice location, even though it eats up a lot of time to get there. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our guide, Stephen made the trip for us. He was very knowledgable and really took care of his group. Here's where it gets tough because you need to understand that Mawamba operates by putting you in to groups and...

If you want to experience a touch of rain forest living and wildlife then this is as good a place to visit as any, but if you are expecting five star accommodation and surroundings then be prepared to be disappointed as the stlye is rustic. The journey time from San Jose via bus and boat is around six hours with...
