We had a great stay at the resort. Our Ocean view room was smaller than we anticipated, but the balcony is very large and it was a lovely way to start the day sitting out there enjoying the delicious coffee they provided. I loved breakfast on the balcony too. Gorgeous views. The food was outstanding at the resort and there wasn’t a meal I didn’t finish, and the vegetarian options for me were plentiful. The staff is outstanding and we always felt well taken care of. There are no elevators here so if you’re impaired at all, I’d inquire on a first floor room before booking. We were on the 3rd floor and it was brutal in the heat at times. Several animals wander around the resort and I highly recommend bug spray for fleas in particular. My husband was eaten alive by bugs and that was only from the resort not the park.

We stayed at Arenas Del Mar for four nights during a 2 week self managed tour of Costa Rica and it was definitely the best place we stayed at. Finding the hotel is a little challenging but once you have parked your car in their lot and you get into the golf cart you will find that all of the staff are so customer and service oriented that all of your needs will be taken care of. We stayed in 703B - a phenomenal room with a curved balcony overlooking the ocean. The room had a bedroom with bath and a living room with an additional bath. The outside deck also has its own hot tub. the mini bar feature a variety of drinks including wine and beer and is restocked daily at no additional charge. We also appreciated the complementry laundry service that they offered. We arranged a tour through Manual Antonio park with the hotel's guide Esteban and he was absolutely wonderful. Seeing the park is a must if you stay here. We also usually had lunch at their second restaurant which is on the beach. Too far to walk but the resort frequently and regularly has golf carts that go between the registration area and the beach so its really effortless. The breakfast and dinners in the main restaurants were average but its super easy to take a taxi to local restaurants usually for $10. one night we went to Raphael's terrazas for dinner and enjoyed their musical entertainment - recommend going there as well. We also went fishing out of Quepos, with Mirse Azul sportsfishing - caught several large groupers and had them grilled for dinner that evening. I'm definitely going back to Arenas.

Location is great, staff was very attentive, beaches are beautiful as well as the restaurants on site… Playitas was particularly fantastic and Nelson was wonderful and always made us feel welcome. Our only comment is that its very pricey and we didn’t feel like it was great value for money. On a plus note laundry service was complimentary, it would be great if more things was included with the room rate.

This hotel is expensive--but worth it. It is unlike any hotel or resort I have ever stayed at, and I travel frequently. We had a family vacation with 8 people in three rooms staying 5 days, and we were all simply blown away by the beauty, the nature surrounding us, the accommodations, the friendly, attentive service, and the unique environment and conveniences provided. The breakfasts and lunches were excellent; the dinners not quite up to the same standards, but it is easy to visit nearby restaurants (such as El Lagarto or Rafael's Terrazas) via the hotel's own taxi or another taxi. You can also drive, of course, but the entrance is challenging, and I did not want to attempt the return in the dark. This hotel's setting and facilities are simply unmatched and definitely worth your time and money. You will not regret it.

Even if the location is great, when you are charging people more than $1K/night for even the most basic rooms, I expect something incredible. We paid premium because we were celebrating a special occasion and wanted to spend our last 3 days of the trip with something incredible, but this place didn't cut it.

Pros:
1) Location is good and you do get to see a ton of different animals
2) Access to a private beach is convenient
3) Some staff were very good: a) Guys who drove around in golf carts were always available to do pickups b) A couple of restaurant staff c) Some front desk staff d) Josue who did the manuel antonio park tour e) Massage therapists

Cons:
1) The rooms were dated (green wall, broken/dirty looking tiles in the rooms, smell in the bathroom).
2) Service was a hit or miss, lots of trainees in the restaurant and many of the staff didn't feel like they wanted to be there
3) Restaurant charged premium prices for food that I have never seen served at a 5 star resort
4) I feel like they used the animals at the property as a dog and pony show
5) Honestly kind of disappointed me across the board little stuff that I just don't have time to write down. For example, once we went to the restaurant by the beach to order food. However, it started getting late because we had a tour that we had booked with the hotel so we asked to get our food put in a takeaway box. They hurriedly put the food in a takeaway container, but then when we asked for a spoon b/c one of the things we ordered was the quinoa bowl or something, but instead of giving us a spoon they asked us to go to the front restaurant to get plastic spoons. It's a small gesture, but it would have been great if they just gave us a spoon (where are we gonna take it anyway?) when they knew we were getting late and couldn't waste more time running around.
6) At 1450+/night (including taxes), this place is way too overpriced and honestly leaves a bad taste.

Dear MarIrs, thank you and your wife for writing this review and providing us with this very valuable feedback. As I mentioned to your wife in response to her review above, we dropped the ball with you and would like to sincerely apologize. We will work hard to make sure that the maintenance issues in your room, as well as the presentation of the breakfast items, will improve immediately. But most importantly we will review what went wrong in terms of service as this is typically the one thing that our guests at Arenas del Mar really enjoy. The situation that you describe before leaving for your tour was handled very poorly by our staff and we will make adequate changes. Thanks again for your feedback and be assured that we take this very seriously and work hard to improve so that future guests at our hotels have the quality experience that they expect. Greetings from sunny Manuel Antonio.

I spent 4 nights in Arenas Del Mar with my dad from 3 to 7 July 2022. Both of us were overwhelmed by the breath-taking beauty of the views from our rooms, the quality of the rooms and of the food and the kindness and high professionalism of the hotel staff.

In the rooms, there is a walk-in shower with premium quality shower gel, hand wash, shampoo and body lotion, the most comfortable bed I had ever slept in. We opened both windows (fitted with mosquito nets) and never switched on the fan or air conditioning. A robe, a coffee-maker with a filter, a kettle, free Costa Rican coffee, free tea, free milk , cold water in a jug, sweets, fruit and nuts (in the fridge) came in very handy.

The hotel staff is exceptional, very well trained, welcoming, polite, friendly and helpful. Minivan drivers Alex and Jorge, golf cart drivers Alex (the smile that never leaves your face is irresistible and brightens up everyone’s day), Farlen, Rafael, Lauriel, restaurant cook Juergen, waiters Walter, Karla and César, concierges Elizabeth and Jorge, tour guide Mauricio (hugely competent and resourceful – ask for Mauricio if you want a private tour in the Manuel Antonio National Park) and service coordinator Derian – you are all superstars!!! Thinking of you brings tears to my eyes, just as on our last day.

We will definitely be back, if not at the end of the year, next summer for sure. Arenas Del Mar is paradise on earth and is worth every penny! No point in looking elsewhere. A big thank you!!!

We had a nice stay at the hotel. Everything was more than good, the rooms, the beach, the staff and the location (though limiting in choice of food options keeping the monopoly to the hotel). However the high price paid for the room at almost 1000usd per night makes me give it a 3/5. For this price I would have expected more. The breakfast could have been better and bigger (not to mention that it took ages to get the food), lunch and dinner is at least 100 usd for a family of 3 in addition to the bill. The rooms are dated and need a refresh (eco doesn’t mean camping). The nice part is the location. Without leaving the hotel it is possible to see many animals running and jumping around the property.

Dear Tomkolt, thank you for your review. One the one hand we are happy to hear that you had a nice stay with us and you enjoyed the rooms, the beachfront location, the staff and the flora and fauna that can be found at the hotel. On the other hand, we are sad to hear that you did not think that your stay was a good value. We have started to work on improving the culinary experience (as mentioned in a previous review) and will make sure that we invest in the updates of the rooms. Your review is very helpful for us and will help us to make sure that future guests will perceive that they receive the value that they expect. Saludos.

Our family was fortunate enough to get to spend 6 days at this spectacular resort located right on the beach and just a short drive to Manuel Antonio Park. The views from our room were stunning and we were just steps away from a private beach, or a 3 minute golf cart ride to the larger Espadilla beach, which is perfect for playing in the waves or going for long walks. The resort also has two beautiful infinity pools if swimming in the ocean isn’t for you.

But what is most impressive about the resort is the staff. Every person we interacted with was genuinely friendly and accommodating. No matter what we asked for the answer was always yes, and the staff often anticipated our needs before we even asked. We were traveling with our nearly four-year-old son, and the staff were all so kind to him and made him feel special. A particular thank you to the manager, Raimund, for being Theo’s best friend during our stay and treating him like a little prince. We are very grateful for everything you did to make our stay so memorable.

One more thing. My wife is currently on a gluten-free diet, and we are generally very particular about food. Arenas didn’t disappoint. Nearly everything on the menu is either gluten free, or can be made gluten free and all our meals were delicious. They have a creative menu with freshly prepared dishes using only the best local ingredients. We hesitate to stay at a hotel for this long if it isn’t close to good restaurants, but in this case we needn’t have worried. We really didn’t want to eat anywhere else.

Overall, our experience at Arenas Del Mar was absolutely top notch and the best place we’ve ever stayed.

The Arenas del Mar is the perfect place to experience some luxury whilst in Costa Rica. The hotel has a stunning location with direct access to the beaches, and is surrounded by beautiful grounds with plenty of wildlife right on the doorstep. Manuel Antonio national park is a 30 minute stroll way along the beach. We stayed in an ocean view suite which had huge rooms, comfortable beds, balconies and a jacuzzi. The free, daily restocked minibar was very handy; the coffee available in the rooms and the hotel is superb (and one can purchase one's own supply from cafe milagro which is located close to the hotel, and is also a good spot for a meal). Breakfast was very good, as was the food in the restaurants (although the main restaurant is a little expensive for eating in every night). The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Amazing hotel, we stayed there for 4 nights in February. We we impressed with everything about it. The staff was great, front desk, servers, drivers, beach and pool attendants were all so helpful at all times. Room came with a very nice mini-bar with beer, wine, juice, snacks, all complimentary and refreshed daily, they also offered a free laundry service, such nice things to do. We would love to stay here again and would highly recommend it.

We have gone on a few, all recommended and booked by the resort. I can’t remember the names though. Contact the resort (Rodbin) and they will give you options based on what you want. They will then book then and schedule transportation to/from marina. Never been disappointed with their options.
