Hotel first stop of my Costa Rica tour in San Jose. Arrived from airport at night, door man helped me sort out the taxi. Got in and was checked in by friendly staff and was given all the particulars to hotel. Front staff always friendly and helpful. My room was on the 1 level floors, interior is all open interior sort of neat to see. Room was clean and had good AC for cooling. Bed was comfy, bathroom good and clean no issues on that. They have a pool on site and a gym as well and change rooms. I went to pool and had a good swim and lounged around later to dry off. They have a downstairs bar if you want drinks there. I had breakfast over two days there, it was buffet but was quite good, much variety fresh fruits, omlettes etc. Location across from a supermarket and near major park. You can access downtown via uber or taxis if needed, or walk.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel whilst on holiday in Costa Rica with Cox and Kings. It is too far out to consider a walk into the city of San Jose, and there are not a lot of shops and restaurants close by, although there is a souvenir shop in the hotel that also serves coffee. There are 180 rooms on 10 floors, and we occupied Room 326, which was a twin room and very comfortable and overlooked the car park at the back of the hotel. It was very quiet, and the standard of decoration was good. The facilities in the room were excellent - a free security safe, flat screen TV with over 100 channels (there were 6 English speaking stations, namely CNN, Golf, Networld, Fox News, BBC World News [Channel 75] and Bloomberg), only coffee making sachets, empty fridge, no mini bar, easy to use and effective air conditioning, no balcony, clothes hanging cupboard with ten hangers, drawers for clothes, excellent wi-fi, four pillows per bed, internal phone, CD player, iron and ironing board. We counted nine possible plug points for charging phones/iPads/electric razors etc. The bathroom had a bath and shower with toilet and a medium sized basin with a plug supplied loose, a hairdryer, shaving mirror, container for ice, two small bars of soap as well as shampoo, conditioner and body lotion.
The hotel facilities included a leisure centre, swimming pool, a restaurant, bar with food available, conference rooms, and a Japanese restaurant (not managed by the hotel). In order to get items charged to the room, remember to let Reception know your credit card number, or else pay cash!
This is a very good hotel to stay in if you are arriving from the airport as it quite close. But if you want to visit the centre of the city, then you will have to use a taxi. The traffic in San Jose is dreadful for most of the day, but there are even longer queues in the morning and evening.

Stayed here for three nights on an organised tour from England. It’s on the way into town from the airport, by a very congested road, and a 2k walk into town. Our travel company had been advised of the renovations and said it would not cause us any disturbance, which was not quite true. The main interior works are on the ground floor, however the pool is completely out of action and consequently there are no outside areas to sit in. This just leaves a dark bar, dining area and a few banquettes but that’s not recommended as the renovations are inevitably noisy. Rooms are also being upgraded so if you have an unmodernised room make sure it’s reflected in the room rate. Otherwise rooms are spacious, beds comfortable and the bathrooms are good, except there’s nowhere to hang wet towels. The breakfast was standard. So still ok for a business trip but not recommended for a relaxing stay. They offer a shuttle to a sister hotel to use the pool, but you could spend more time stuck in traffic getting there than swimming. Maybe after March it will all improve.

Hello sjhHove, Thanks for the stay and for the feedback. I am happy that you found the rooms and beds comfortable. We always want our guests to recharge and be inspired, but we missed the mark. I am sorry to learn about the inconveniences brought by the on- going renovations, specially the unavailability of the pool and some facilities, and the noise challenges. This is not the experience we want our guests to have. I have forwarded your feedback to our hotel management to work on these points raised in your review to give you the best hotel experience in the future. Once again, thank you for staying with us and hope you visit us again after the renovations. Best Regards, John O Case Manager IHGService

Only spent 10 hours here on first night of a tour.
Room was huge , no issues with bed etc , but lighting poor.
Opposite a supermarket ( have to cross dual carriageway) so supplies can be got after a long haul flight.
Breakfast was made available for us from 4:30 am and was quite nice, coffee very welcome , before leaving for the rainforest.

From reception to the time we departed was exceptionally great. Señorita Geim was pleasant and kind. This hotel and staff went above and beyond to accommodate our reservations.

The hotel facilities like the Fuji Japonés restaurant was wonderful. Also we had breakfast and the selections were plentiful. The common areas and pools were well maintained.

As life would have it we returned to this hotel the same day as our initial checkout. Due to the San Jose airport closure 4/7/2022 my family and I chose to return to this hotel.

This location was extremely busy accommodating another airlines with housing and meals for many people. That did not affect how they conducted business. We were greeted kindly at reception and even remembered my name.

The second stay was as great as the initial. It was short but nothing less. We even returned for dinner at Fuji. It was a difficult day at the airport but the staff made our stay warm and inviting.

I recommend this establishment for a great stay stay while in San Jose, Costa Rica 🇨🇷

Mil gracias 🙏🏽

This is the place to begin a trip to Costa Rica. It is the international jumping of point for the rest of the country. Because we came and left the hotel at extremely early times they hotel went out of the way to facilitate our travels. Including early breakfasts and very late meal service. The management actually cam down to welcome us and ensure we would be looked after. We would stay there again. Hotel is a little far away from everywhere. Although there is a supermercado (supermarket) directly across the road from the hotel. It is modern a=with full facilities including gym and pool.

So after a 14 day tour around Costa Rica, we thought we would get rid of the hire car and relax here before our flight home.
So first of all it’s extremely difficult to get to if you are driving yourself and don’t use navigation, it’s in a 1 way system so if you miss it your screwed no easy shortcut back to it! Even google maps gave up.
The next problem we encountered was a lack of reasonable English with the staff (Appreciate that Spanish is the main language) but seriously this was ridiculous every time we wanted something we were met by a blank expression and then had to wait while they found someone to translate. There was just a total lack of understanding (by far the worst language handicap we experienced in our whole trip!
Slow check in and out! Ok this is quite common with a lot of hotels, but in this day and age why is their so much paper work???????
The room was fine no problems there!
Pool area was quite nice, big problem to locate towels and no changing rooms. Not many people used the pool because it was so cold!!!!!
Service in general was non existent you had no chance to get anything around the pool area unless you went in search of staff, nobody walked around checking on guests etc.
Lobby bar was awful dull boring decor no flair and no service, seriously it took on average 15 mins to get a cocktail and we were the only ones at the bar.
Food was without question the worst we have experienced during our whole trip, my partner took one bite and we had to send her wrap back it was awful
My burger looked like a 6 year old had made it looked unappetizing and tasted as it looked.
Finally for those still addicted to nicotine, ( yes we no Costa Rica has draconian rules) you can’t smoke anywhere there is s huge car park, but no smoking! They have s tiny place out the front of the hotel bizarrely enough. Strange you would have thought they would hide you away at the bottom of the car park.
What a terrible end to our holiday.
I note that management seems to send out generic replies to any criticism, which is probably the reason things are so bad! Nobody is listening.

A very nice hotel. Clean and spacious. Very good dining area for breakfast. All staff are very polite and helpful ,if the staff do not speak English, they still assist to the best of their ability....I am impressed- from the doorman to the front desk to the dining area and the assistance desk. We actually stayed in 3 different rooms over the course of our trip.

We stayed here at the beginning and end of our tour in Costa Rica for two nights and one night. During our first stay we had no hot water in the washbasin. On arrival after a very long journey we got to our room only to find that our key card did not work. The room was noisy on two fronts. Firstly the road outside and secondly from other guests in the atrium. The room smelt damp. The pool is a good size but absolutely freezing. There are only 10 sunbeds for all guests. Also it is not obvious where to get a pool towel. Having said this we ordered drinks and snacks by the pool and the waiters could not have been more friendly and helpful. Breakfast service is OK although it does take quite a time to get any juice or coffee. On our second visit there were two trainees on reception who were clearly out of their depth with no-one on hand to help them. When we arrived in our room there was only one face cloth for two people! We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the waiting staff were excellent. Very efficient and very friendly. The food was good. Our room was very noisy as we had a connecting door which meant that we could hear everything from the room next door. This is a functional hotel but could be so much better.

Stayed three times over 9 days as part of a gate1 tour. Grocery store across the street (just a short walk down to the cross walk); buffet breakfast served by staff, indoor and outdoor poolside tables; Eduardo at the bar makes lovely cocktails; and the food at Fuji is excellent. We enjoyed the salmon skin rolls, the spicy tuna rolls, seaweed salad and pot stickers. For our last stay we were upgraded to a wonderful room with a curved balcony overlooking the pool. Thank you!
Taxi to Cultural Plaza is less than $5
