We were a bit taken aback when we arrived at the hotel because the street looked a little dicey, however it is actually in a safe and convenient area. Lots of big chain hotels nearby, but this hotel has much more character. Were able to walk to everything we wanted to see. Saw the National Theatre, several museums, the Central...

Having never been to San Jose, we were elated to stay in such a nice place. Unassuming at first (buzz the attendant at the gate) the courtyard centered hotel is a former residence that gushes history. Secure parking is included. The spacious rooms are clean with large showers in the baños. Eat a nice breakfast around the pool before heading...

We stayed for one night and thought it was very charming. Service was excellent and the room was large. People need to understand that this hotel is in the city and your windows will be open to city sounds. This didn't bother us at all. The hot tub was a great place to relax at night. Would definitely stay again.

My husband and I spent the first two nights of a two week trip at Hotel Santo Tomas in a balcony room on the second floor. Check in was smooth at around 9:30pm and we were helped up the steps with our luggage. The room was adequate size for the queen bed and had a nice high ceiling. It was...

We spent 2 nights at Hotel Santo Tomas Feb 1-3 and were disappointed in the hospitality. Although Tomas, the owner, greeted us at breakfast and seemed quite friendly, when we told him of our early departure and inquired about our breakfast ( we were leaving before breakfast was served) on our last morning, he told us that we could buy...

Hi Nannapapax, The breakfast we provide is FREE from 7am to 9am and I don't really know of any hotels that will have staff members arrive at 4 am to make one FREE BREAKFAST. I also don't know of many hotel owners that are in the breakfast area , concerned about their guests every day. With respect to your pickup...

We stayed in the economy room for several nights and were totally satisfied. The mattress was the most comfortable one we had on our entire trip. Like Sleeping on clouds. Some bed covers were threadbare, I took one cover off the spare pillow and put it over mine, problem solved. The room is nice and clean. Reliable hot shower with...

The wifi was unreliable. The gym is old and poorly equiped, best to use the space for something else or to up grade. Pool small and cold. The rooms are a good size and the place has some charm. Please note restaurant is only open for breakfast offering a very basic selection.

Hi GomezDuran. Hotel was full over 60 guest logged on to the FREE WiFi , so it goes down, Gym is not a disco gym , it is the Worlds Gym Type, fully equipped, all clean and working and if you know how to work out everything is there, see the hotel's website photos, by the way most hotels don't...

I read many reviews about this hotel so we arrived with an open mind. Once there, the reception at the front desk was very friendly. We were shown our room on the ground floor in this old colonial style hotel. Now the room had windows onto the hall corridor and a small obscure window high up on the wall. Nonetheless,...

This is an old colonial building with a lot of character in a very good location, four blocks from the pedestrian area in San Jose. It was also, coincidently and conveniently, within a few minutes walk from the meeting points of all three tours that I went on. The room was very clean with a comfortable double bed, chest of...

Hi Taki, You introductory sentence is really nice. You stayed in one of our economy rooms, the least expensive at $52.99 on the hotels direct website, located in the original 1908 building. We have five different room types , which cover different sizes and price. The newer section upstairs for just a few dollars more is very nice and there...

We began the first three nights of our trip to Costa Rica by taking day trips from San Jose. It worked really well using Hotel Santo Tomas as a home base. It was clean with a hot breakfast each morning. The owner, Thomas, checked in with his guests at breakfast, so this was helpful to answer questions or give suggestions...
