My first experince in Costa Rica with my wife and 7 year old daughter was shocking to encounter this so called hotel with a nut case of a proprieitor. Made a reservation and commumicated directly with her in advance concerning our late arrival being early morning around 2 am from Florida on Spirit Airlines. Which she exchanged through email to...

If you are looking for luxury, this place is not for you, but if you are looking to stay at a place you will never find anywhere else, check it out! This little "rainforest amidst San Jose" is run by the owner, Mayra. It is a decorated by her in a very eclectic bizarre way, displaying a lot of her...

I found this hotel in Lonely Planet...and while it's artsy and fun, it may not be for everyone. It looks like a jungle from the front door, and it is full of interesting objects, whimsical decor, and art from the hotel's owner. Be prepared to hear the train going by the window from early morning to around 9 at night....

My girlfriend and I have stayed at Cinco Hormogas Rojas twice, for a total of four days over the span of 2 years. We would happily stay at Mayra Guell's "small refuge" again. As busy professionals in a big busy city, we come to Costa Rica to make our world more vast. The dense green vistas, rich wildlife, and open...

My husband and I really liked this hotel. There was some confusion/trouble getting our shuttle to and from the airport (we ended up taking a taxi both ways, which was easy, cheap, and really wasn't a problem). We had no trouble booking our first choice of rooms (we had the Dancing Leaf Room) - and the room was fantastic! We...

The best thing about this hotel was the location - a quick 10 min walk to the downtown area. I can definitely appreciate the vision and the "uniqueness" of the place - an urban jungle/forest. However, I was highly disappointed with the disingenuous nature of the owner, Mayra Guell. My boyfriend and I stayed at Cinco Hormigas on 3 separate...

We stayed there for one night, this place is very unique and the Lady who owns the place is very sweet and fun to talk to. The main reason we stayed there was to see the Bats and boy did we ever. I took some of the most awesome pictures of these Bats, just that was worth staying there.

Very cramped spaces hunching over to walk around causes awareness of self in a non natural way. I appreciate myra's sense of expression for herself but it wasn't right for me. If you enjoy tight surroundings with a cocoon feeling this is a place for you. The doors, gates and bars, locking and unlocking at evey entrance along with the...

A quirky little place within walking distance of the main market area. Quaint and funky (in a good way) Clean room, comfortable bed. Loved watching the birds out on the terrace. We really appreciated the owners help with various travel plans.

The taxi drops you off at what looks like a small wall of tree branches and you think "this can't be it...". But it is. Opening the door I didn't really know what to expect but I would never have expected this... an amazing blend of a tropical garden, a hobbit house and a spiritual experience. The rooms are full...
